Seems like the new policy could lead to increased INAD claims and request for discount refunds. “You said it was good but it’s obviously fair. I want some money back.” It’s either new or used. A good seller would add details and pictures.
Completely agree!!…additionally it say buyer shows and describes ALL imperfections. This is easy to suggest the seller overlooked something and they side with the buyer.
I also had a customer who claimed that a new set of clippers did not come with all of the parts even though the box was sealed. I told them to request a return label through eBay I would pay for the shipping. They never shipped the item back. eBay released the funds back to me. They disputed the transaction with their credit card company and won. The money did not come out of my account. eBay paid them. I think I was protected because I am in the top seller category. But once again some of these buyers are so cringey!
Thank you for the constant updates and information. Appreciate your videos. Anyone else experience more weirdness on Ebay, example (constant message when click on a listing "sorry, something went wrong , it's us not you" ; listing disappear; drafts disappear, even though you had edits recently)?
Thank you so much for answering my question, so exciting to be on your channel! I really appreciate the feedback. I was definitely feeling that this was not on the up and up. Congratulations on the 50,000 followers and happy holidays!
Hi Justin, I sold those same pencils a few weeks ago. Was a killer find. I sold 5 #3 Mongol pencils in the box for $14.89+shipping! Take Care...Happy Holidays 🎄
Thank you for being such a real person. I appreciate your common sense as well as your sense of humor. I've learned a lot from your videos and I am.also a Flipwise user. Merry Christmas to you and your family and the dogs too!
This type of pre-owned condition has always been present on Mercari and it's a huge benefit as you can say that an item is in fair condition which indicates useable but many flaws. Poor indicates used for parts or needs repair to use.
Interesting to hear you say “ under value” I was once being trained in a factory job and my trainer said. “ when asked how long a job will take, always under estimate, when you come in early, you are remembered “ 😊 I still use the philosophy.
That was also Scotty’s advice on Star Trek: "The secret, sir, is to give yourself a reputation as a miracle worker and then always overestimate your repair times. That way, you'll look good when you finish faster."
I set no returns on my listings Always. Been doing this for over 25 years on eBay. still have 100% positive feedback. If there is an issue I givea full refund immediately and let the customer keep the item even if the item is a $90 sale as happened this month. Ebay recently changed my preset no returns to seller pays return within 30 days (without my knowledge) and I found I was getting frivolous returns. I sell CDs mostly (about 60% of sales) and it seemed people were buying CDs and saving to digital then returning or just didn't like the music they chose and returned it. That is why unless ebay does something I am not aware of I never set returns on. Frankly, I don't care a bit if I lose some sales because I am very happy with my sales level as it is. For me this is not about money primarily, it is something to do, have fun, earn some money while doing it, and getting pleasure from providing superior customer service and superiior product... doing business the way I feel it should be done. No stress, no obsessing about getting the last dime, none of that.
Hi Justin, really appreciate your approach and content - is it possible to please make a video going over Ebay payments - you sell something, fees charged, promoted fee charged, adjustment made? postage and then get a payment and it does not seem to make sense. Think a lot of viewers might benefit from it, seems no one covers it.
I, too, like what you are describing with the reselling ethos. I "love" to have new additions of objects to my house/wardrobe and life. The novelty and practicality can't be beat. But then, like everyone, I need to clean out and declutter. What to do? Oh yeah, now I'm a reseller. That means it's INVENTORY! I no longer feel guilty for buying something for myself, not knowing if it will even work for me, because I can probably resell it anyway. However, I didn't start reselling for that reason. That would be a somewhat static position. Very few items maintain value over time once used. (There are many exceptions of course, especially "vintage" items.) Also, human behavior tells us that people tend to "upscale" if given the opportunity. For example, I need a new toaster. If I am limited to buying new, I will get a lower end brand. If I am sourcing and find an inexpensive brand for the same money, I will likely get that one. No actual money was saved in that equation. (but the toasting experience may be improved! lol you get the idea) Maintaining the inventory is a challenge to say the least. Storing everything while waiting for it to sell takes over areas of people's homes or they pay for storage off site. The time it takes to photograph, list and ship is uncompensated WORK. I am still exploring how this is going to fit in my life but I totally get why most people aren't interested in it and instead just choose to give away their items. Let's face it, the deductions for donations are pretty great.I continue to enjoy your channel and thanks for the heads up about the clothing condition changes. I like the addition of category for new without tags as that definitely can happen if items get separated from original packaging, etc. It has been said, however, that if the seller did not actually obtain it NEW from a store very recently, then it is actually no longer NEW at all. It may be unworn, but it is still "pre-owned." This seems accurate to me. Also, asking resellers to grade their own items is crazy. I see people listing items as new that are obviously used with stains and holes as it is. Twice, I reached out to ebay flagging listings of this nature and they "investigated" and in both cases found the listings to be in compliance with their policies. As a buyer, I did make a purchase of something listed as new and when it arrived realized it was clearly not new. I reached out to the seller and she apologized for her mistake and comped the item. It's good to know there are still honest people out there!
When i list books, i say Acceptable and have buyers say it was better than expected. Im liable to list all clothes as Good for the same reason. I don't feel like arguing over is it excellent or not.
Fun fact. After watching your videos for the last month I decided to opt into the $4.95 monthly eBay store hoping it would boost my sales. I subscribed at 7:30 pm, went to put my kids to bed and came back to my phone showing 7 sales had processed. I was shocked. That was over the course of an hour. I was averaging 1-2 sales per day over the last two weeks. It’s been slow. Real slow. I was hoping the new store would help boost my sales and it immediately helped me. I do price fairly, I opt into 2% marketing on every listing. Nothing changed except I paid eBay money and promised to pay them for a year. 😂
Most items you purchase new from shops these days come with dangling & loose threads.....Pre-Loved Good condition according to ebay 😂 I hope we can bulk update, I'm in Australia so will let you know!
Merry Christmas, Justin and family! I have been so blessed by your videos as well as Flipwise. I now have the confidence to I make it with Ebay this time. Thank you so much for taking the time and having the patience to put out content that really matters and cuts my fretting in half. God bless you and your family in the New Year!
I think also the main reason with UA-camrs not sharing their stores is to avoid a jealous competitor to buy something and then intentionally leave a negative feedback to arm metrics.
The 50% refund option is something I’ve definitely utilized before, but it’s not as great as it seems. eBay keeps all of your selling fees associated with the transaction if you make any deductions on the refund
How does everyone find out about estate sales and garage sales? Do I just drive around or is there an online search that would point me in the right direction?
Google is your friend. You can ask it for garage sales near “ insert your zip code”. Plus search up gated communities names near your areas. They only allow 1 to 2 per year, so usually has lots of houses selling then.look for upscale communities sections, they want to just get rid of stuff. There are garage sale websites too.
When I first started on eBay I had two packages that ended up with no tracking on them too and eBay dinged me for it. I have no idea how there was no tracking added, I shipped them exactly how I ship things today. Maybe there was a glitch in the matrix that day 🤷🏼 It hasn’t happened since though.
For the first caller, since he sells mostly sportscards and uses the eBay Standard Envelopes service, I think sometimes the envelope doesn't scan correctly or the postal worker doesn't scan the delivery and thus doesn't show as delivered.
I already get the option to choose more than pre-owned . I always choose good so I don’t understand this as a change. I don’t sell anything worse than good anyway so I think it will all be fine.
Looking forward to your 2024 wrap next week! Perhaps you can rap the wrap? ;) Have a relaxing Christmas and thank you for all the wonderful advice and content!
I had this problem as well. I used ebay standard envelope and when I went to post office they said they don't scan this type of packaging. So item was shipped and arrived on time per buyer but tracking was never "uploaded". Doesn't make sense.
Was just listing my 5 a day - one item was a book (Qanon and On about internet conspiracies it said) that I picked up at an Op Shop (in Australia or Thrift Store in the US) was told by Ebay that it incites violence and so can't be listed! I had no idea, but interestingly, there are three identical books currently listed, but when I relooked they say Anon and by dropping the Q they can list. I won't bother listing it, as it just cost a $1, but yeah first time I have been knocked back listing.
Average time to sell is definitely creeping up. I dont keep numbers like you, but yours certainly confirm this. There was a time if you priced it just under comp, itd sell with a few days. Not so much anymore. It will sell but you got to wait.
When I ship cheap cards, there really isn’t tracking. I would send it via a stamp, but couldn’t prove anything. People would claim it never shipped even with picture of the envelope and me putting it in the mailbox. So now I am forced to only use eBay to ship.
Hey Justin love your channel! You also motivate me every day to get things listed. Much appreciated. I have a question for you. How would you handle a situation where a buyer purchases two separate items and you or the buyer wants to bundle them into one shipping cost. Do you have to relist them together or is there an easy way to bundle the shipping into one label and both items get tracked? Hope that made sense lol
In the US, I wish they would add 'Preowned-BINS". I have only been to the BINS a few times. I have found feces (animal and ???), dead bugs, broken glass, and questionable smells. I doubt that all the resellers buying the clothing laundered/drycleaned them. I have almost stopped buying ANY pre-owned clothing online after seeing the BINS. They were nasty.
hi, I sell lots of preowned clothes and I try to avoid the bins, but I go about once every 3 months. I do wash of all my sourced pre-owned clothes, and I have this lysol disinfecting detergent that sanitizes the clothes without doing any damage. I buy lots of preowned clothing on ebay for myself too. I always wash the clothing, never have received anything dirty. If I did receive anything dirty I would have it packed back up within seconds/sealed and have a return open very easily. Also I'm sure you're more likely to run into a problem by buying clothes from a low activity seller, or someone who posts terrible pics of their items with maybe just a front and back picture. You really shouldn't have a problem if you're buying clothes from a reputable seller on ebay who probably makes several sales per day. I'm somewhat at that point, and when you're in this degree of seller status you can never list one "poop" item to jeopardize your store. I'm still a nothing burger of a seller, but I pass up so many items, even after I take them home after buying, and I realize for one of several reasons an item isn't good enough to make the cut in my store. However I guess where we differ is that I accept something pre-owned I buy could come from the bins, even a nasty one. However if the item arrives with zero odor/stains, and then also out of my wash even cleaner then I'm happy to continue paying way less for even better styles than I can find in the store.
you wash clothing bought online or at a store regardless if it is brand new, pre owned or whatever because you don't know where that piece might have been anyways so no need for redundant condition labeling.
@@brian4180 sorry but many sellers don't wash and you won't even notice. I had sold listings without washing but I had said so on the listing and buyer knew and accepted that condition. Things come from stores that have been in dirty conditions at the warehouse and you cannot wash an item with a brand new label on.
I sell mostly clothes and this will be a pain with over 2000 items. Crazy to do this when most buyers refuse to even look at photos and description. I cannot tell you how many times I get messages saying please provide measurements. I have measurements in description and photos. Also, how do they expect a seller to just classify items when you cannot review the listing photos or description without opening up each listing one at a time. We are talking about weeks of work for a stupid reason. I probably will just make all listings say acceptable unless new with tags. This way a buyer cannot open a full money return, due to a wrong condition.
Yeah same...I also get lots of messages about clothing measurements. I'm sorry, but I just don't have the desire to search through my inventory to find a $15 shirt just to measure it for someone who probably won't buy it anyway. Such a pain.
I think Mercari already uses the levels of pre-owned. I really don't think buyers are going to pay attention to the levels if they roll it out on eBay.
Hello Justin I had a second sale after 2 days of a formal sale. When I purchased a shipping label from eBay it didn’t use the funds my second buyer paid for shipping, it used my first sale fund. So when I receive the first payout it is deducted the second buyer’s shipping fee. Why eBay didn’t use my second buyer’s money to purchase her shipping label. But used a portion of my former fund? Is there a setting I can change this? Thank you.
I've only seen Technsports do a vid on this about 10 days ago, but I'm still confused as to how to change listings before they make the new categories available. The "minor" and "moderate" are too broad and not defined.
I love this probable future clothing change. As a shopper, I get annoyed when the seller just says 'in preowned condition'. That phrase means next to nothing. 😂
I am a seasoned reseller. I attempted to buy Christmas gifts on Ebay. It was a disaster. I wanted New. I only searched Items listed as Condition: New. Item Specifics: New. Every item I ordered was lightly used but clearly used. The sellers didn't put enough pictures for me to determine the items were actually new. You would expect a few pictures of a box if the item is new. Had they pictured the inside of the box i would have known the item was used. (Food debris, burnt hairspray etc). Hopefully Ebay institutes a system where the buyer and seller understands and chooses a condition that is appropriate. In each case the seller ate the shipping both ways which I know sucks.
They will probably scan the key words using some kind of AI and whatever words you used to describe the condition ebay will autoselelect the appropriate pre-owned subcategory.
@ im not talking about eBay. Im talking about sellers. From what Justin said. eBay are going to pick good automatically . So seller have to go to each listing and choose the correct option which would be very time consuming . Plus not all sellers describe the condition in detail. I just told buyers to look at pictures carefully. I also zoomed in any flaws and take many pictures from multiple angles. so eBay can’t detect condition from my description.
@@hp4415 What I was saying is ebay will automate the process. They have control over their platform in the end. If you didn't do your due diligence and explain the condition in your listing, that's on you. If ebay requires this they will auto update your listings or remove them. They want seller fees so I assume they will automatically update your listings for you.

@@hp4415 You are supposed to describe the condition in text, with detail. Not just taking pictures and assuming the buyer knows exactly what the flaw is. That's where the AI can scan the text and use keywords to assume the correct condition subcategory. Pre-owned excellent, Pre-owned good etc.
Hi Justin! How would you handle this situation? If a buyer purchased an item, and asked you to wait to ship the item, until the following week or longer. As a Resaler, my business policies are listed as the next business day. For the past 3 years I have had buyers ask this. The first time the buyer was in constant contact with me because of the personal nature of the request, and I was more than willing to wait (6 weeks). Last year I had another request and granted this. No thank you or even feedback. Yesterday this happened again, I messaged the buyer and let them know of my business policy on shipping and after a sale Ebay will not let me change my shipping. It takes a year for this defect to fall off your store and last year just soured me on doing this without any response back from the buyer. I want to give good customer service, but this could hurt my bottom line!
Hi Justin, I have a question. If a seller offers free returns and the buyer decides to return an item under buyers remorse, does the seller have to refund the original shipping cost that the buyer paid for initially? Thanks in advance!
Some buyers are so cringey. I had a pair of Sorel boots listed new with defects. They had tags and the box. But they had some scratches and smudges on them. Because they were probably a store display. Someone inboxed me basically bashing me because clearly they were not new. Obviously they did not read the title or the description or look clearly at the photos. So I ignored them. Not even 12 hours later they bought the boots from me. I'm willing to bet that they will want to return them. Why complain about something. And then still buy it? CRAZY!!!
@ righhht but most vintage clothing that I sell has flaws that actually add to the value and desirability. Marking them as fair condition doesn’t really make sense in that case.
@@hieronymusx8111 don't forget that you have a description under the pre owned label and on the description box down below to describe what the real condition is in detail, so that the customer knows what truly the piece is about. This is just a general way to classify an item. That is what I do regardless of the label I am using on the listing, I give a very detailed description and the item will sell at the correct, fair amount I desire .
@ I’m certain that I know how to properly list my items. Your point does not address the left hand search function which would be the reason for my issue with this change.
@@hieronymusx8111 well, that is another thing but most customers don't even use that. They go directly to description and highlights of descriptions at the top. I am not telling you what to do, I am just reminding you that it is not a big deal. If people want vintage , they will find it. I sell hundreds each year only with a description.
@@SohoPosh and that is another issue, hoping to weed out bad buyers as well. If you are going to buy online, sight unseen, better learn some skills, like reading descriptions, if you don't want to get burned.
that would be the excellent category and you can always write down "with tag" on your listing but in reality if it is with tags , is considered new regardless.

I wish they would add a section where the seller can indicate whether they have washed the item, steamed it, or neither.
I add those type of details in the description. Whether they read it or not, who knows.
Average time to sell is definitely creeping up. I dont keep numbers like you, but yours certainly confirm this. There was a time if you priced it just under comp, itd sell with a few days. Not so much anymore. It will sell but you got to wait.
I look forward to having a rubric for Preowned clothing.
Yesterday I opened my store, and notice that Ebay un promoted all of my listings. Have you ever seen that happen?
Merry Christmas and a safe happy New year to year and your family Justin, thanks for the great content over the last 12 months Graham
Yes please!! We want to see a video regarding taxes! Thanks
No, I feel like this will open the subjective floodgates and the sea of returns will come through.
The ChaChing King on UA-cam has a user friendly video on exactly this.
Awesome thank you!
Dang! Amazing seats, hope you had fun at the game!!
All used clothing listed to ebay is by policy supposed to be washed. So not sure what you mean. Maybe YOU don't wash clothes, but most of us do.
you wash clothing bought online or at a store regardless if it is brand new, pre owned or whatever because you don't know where that piece might have been anyways so no need for redundant condition labeling.
@@brian4180 sorry but many sellers don't wash and you won't even notice. I had sold listings without washing but I had said so on the listing and buyer knew and accepted that condition. Things come from stores that have been in dirty conditions at the warehouse and you cannot wash an item with a brand new label on.
Even if they add that option, how can eBay enforce it? I mean people can lie and said thats their personal item, estate garage sales stuff like that.
I heard another youtuber mention February for the worldwide roll out of the used clothing condition.
Happy Holidays to you and your family .❤ Excellent content!
Merry Christmas 🎄and a Happy New Year 🎆
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank You for the content. It has helped greatly. Cheers.
I think Mercari already uses the levels of pre-owned. I really don't think buyers are going to pay attention to the levels if they roll it out on eBay.
Just like grading coins: Fine, Very Fine, etc.
Thanks Justin for keeping us updated. Always great info.
You won't be able to change them until the policy has been implemented.
I love this probable future clothing change. As a shopper, I get annoyed when the seller just says 'in preowned condition'. That phrase means next to nothing. 😂
that is lazy listing. They should always give exact details on condition of item.
How does flip wise work with cross listing? We just pull our info from those platforms when items sell? Any integration planned for the future?
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and your family Justin!
You’re my second favorite Chiefs fan after Paul Rudd.
Was the condition stated as “New”?
Yes @@theslowcrafter
I don’t sell a lot of clothing but for people who have like 5000 of clothing items in eBay. It’s gonna be a pain in the you know what.

I sold a Scripto mechanical pencil from an estate sale and sold for a huge profit.
Cmon Justin You gotta give us a rap about reselling!
Nice banker's lamp
If someone messages you and wants to pay more for your item....... eBay told me over the phone that it's probably a scam
yes, pretty much.
Oh nooo youre a chiefs fan 😢😢 youre lucky i love youre channel 😂
Hi Justin, I have a question. If a seller offers free returns and the buyer decides to return an item under buyers remorse, does the seller have to refund the original shipping cost that the buyer paid for initially? Thanks in advance!
nope, only if it is due to defect, broken or misrepresented.
@ awesome, thanks for the feedback!
CRAZY!!!
If someone messages you with something like that do yourself a favor and block them immediately. Avoid headaches down the road.
I want a Justin Rap video now!!!
Do you block buyers who return an item to you?
not unless they are jerks or scam attempts
JR raps 24!!!! Now at your local reseller 😂
I sell quite a few Comic Books and this is already in place.
Maybe with the binoculars the guy just wanted to strap and was hoping to save a lot of money on postage?
Hi did i get kicked off with my question, i put on here yesterday?
Buys already freak out over one cat's hair. Amazon mentality! Condition is so subjective!
eBay should consider a “pre-owned vintage” condition parameter.
you can always put vintage anywhere on the listing
Hi Justin, it's Dan in the UK.
Can I ask, which European country is your biggest customer over here?
Happy Christmas
I wonder how many people will actually pay attention to the change, since they don’t seem to pay attention to many things.
that makes the difference between serious and not so serious sellers, helps to weed out the bad sellers.
@@vaderladyl Oh but I was talking about the buyers...
@@SohoPosh and that is another issue, hoping to weed out bad buyers as well. If you are going to buy online, sight unseen, better learn some skills, like reading descriptions, if you don't want to get burned.
Dear Justin, take Vitamin B1, calcium, and Vitamin C after drinking beer to avoid that next day exhaustion and brain fog.
So excited when I heard rap video, but you clarified wrap , and now I’m slightly disappointed 🤣🤣
Seriously though looking forward to it. Thank you
you seem like a cool guy and i bet your son is very awesome 😎
I wish one of the new selections was preowned with tags because most new with tags have been owned by someone.
that would be the excellent category and you can always write down "with tag" on your listing but in reality if it is with tags , is considered new regardless.
Oh please do rap for us! 😂💕
No, I don’t want numbers next week. I want rap.😂
