You can do it, it's not hard. I promise we're not being snobs when we say it's easy. Look at the configuration file for the bindings (in Hyprland at least) and it tells you literally everything you need to use a tiling WM in less then a paragraph worth of words. Remembering the bindings takes like 1 week max (the bindings you care about at least). The part that takes the longest (or the shortest, since it's a choice) is just how much configuration you want to do (or have to do). I'd be happy to share with you my Hyprland config, but the default is good enough too.
@ Marcello is right. Another way to consider this is that you’re spending as much time “unlearning” how to use a desktop as you are learning how to use a TWM. What you’re seeing isn’t some supreme wizardry (though you can get as technical as you want with these setups), it’s the way this particular user configured their environment to navigate per their preferences. A few keybinds and modules and you can replicate what you see here. Traditional desktop environments have what equate to “training wheels” that can’t be taken off. This is good for the average consumer, but imagine if your entire life experience using computers was spent with tiling window managers. Especially videos like this - all they do is showcase someone doing the things we all normally do (open apps, play music, browse the web, move files) in a slightly different and obviously riced up way. Having this type of intimate relationship with your machine is rewarding and a great learning experience :)
I miss using a WM. Currently on GNOME with no problems but this is giving me the urge to tweak my system again (which always end up breaking my system...)
Can you make a tutorial if possible ? Also i have questions , should this be tried on Debian based destro ( in site it has download link for ubuntu ) but it says its doens't fully stable..
tutorial? nope. if you just started using linux and you dont have self destructive tendencies, i would recommend using a desktop environment until you get comfortable with the terminal and learn about arch on virtual machines. then try ricing
@@shub39 i mean I am pretty comfortable with terminal but I don't wanna switch to arch because package are unstable and buggy , that's the reason I asked if it's suitable to install it on Debian based destro? And I don't think. My computer is powerful enough to handle V.M. Another reason I don't wanna switch is that arch community is preety toxic , that's also one of the reason I don't wanna switch to arch ..
nice waybar, however when I tried to get your config, it seems the icons aren't working. is a particular font or package I need for that? for ex) the clock icon on the left module doesn't appear properly
I love the rice
I'd say I'm pretty good with linux at this point, but not good enough to use a tiling wm like that. Very impressive!
It's easier than you'd think, I would give it a shot.
