I worked for a pediatrician ENT many years ago, they did tubes all the time for kiddos with chronic ear infections, they can make special ear plugs that they wear in the pool (similar to musician ear plugs) just make sure you bring up all your concerns with the Dr to make sure they get you all the things you may need before you actually need it.

Yes, I came to say this. My daughter had ear tubes, because she had fluid in her ears that wouldn’t drain (she would tell me she could hear bubbles). She had no issues with the tubes. As stated above, she wore special ear plugs anytime she was in water.

I feel like the lottery-space conversation is such classic home vlog. It made my heart happy.
On another note, I work at a Neuropsychology practice and maybe 90% of my children patients have had to get ear tubes. It's super common, at least with my patients here in Orlando (:

Jenn you asked in a video about keeping little man's hair out of his face. I know you said he was getting a trim, but my son wanted his to grow out, now it's REALLY grown out, but we LOVE JUNK brand headbands. They have alot of fun deodng hundreds of styles and such and really hold up. They are a little pricey but they do sales fairly often and they LAST! We love them If I could I would add a picture

Regarding cutting the streaming services, don’t forget if you cut something, it’s not for forever and it’s very easy to get it back, unlike switching traditional cable providers. If there’s a show you want to watch or binge, just pick up that service for a month or two and then drop it. Very easy to rotate through them based on what you’re watching right now.

I had ear tubes when I was tiny and I really needed them desperately. They helped because my development was slowing because I couldn’t hear as well and my balance and speech was falling behind.
I’m getting a trim next week too! Happy to get rid of the split ends😁
I’ve never bought a lottery ticket before, couldn’t ever justify the cost when everything has become so expensive, being so poor😆

16:55 When I was 18 I thought I was an adult. I wanted to get married asap 😂 like right out of high school. 10 years later I am so glad that didn’t happen because I am a COMPLETELY different person! And most of that growing I did in early to mid 20’s. I was definitely a child at 18. Some people can do it, I was not one of those people. 😂

I've worked in Ent for 17 years. I schedule those surgeries. My daughter is 24 and had them put in 4 different times when little, adenoids removed and it never came back until most recently 2 months ago as an adult. So, as both a consumer, patient parent and an experienced employee I highly recommend doing the tube procedure and asking about his adenoids. I've actually watched Jackson and been curious about his sinus, speech recently wondering if that had been recommend. My son, also Jaxon, had his tonsils and adenoids out at 5 and it helped him so much. He's 15 now and never needed tubes. Hope he starts to feel better.

One son had tubes and ear drum repair surgery at 2, the other son had tonsils and adnedoids out at 5 and wow what a difference no more strep and his speech went back to normal and no more snoring or talking like it was mouth breathing.

My middle daughter had tubes when she was around 2 and they do eventually fall out as they grow. They are truly a lifesaver if you are battling chronic ear infections in your kiddo. As far as Tim mentioned about planes and such… it is actually easier on people with tubes because the pressure doesn’t build up behind the ear drum so they shouldn’t pop. My daughter did wear ear plugs when swimming but she didn’t need them for just a bath or shower. I think that recommendation will vary depending upon the doctor though! Good luck! I just wanted to share my experience as a mom and an RN.

I am 41 and I had to have tubs in my ears a few times when I was a baby/toddler and yes they fall out as the kid grows. I have no side effects from having them. My ears still pop and get stuffed when I fly. I don’t think anymore then someone that has not had tubs. I swim and go under water with no problems. But you should still ask those questions to his ENT doctor cause everyone is different. Love yalls videos. Y’all always make me smile ❤

I had tubes twice when I was a youngin. I had a very difficult time hearing and had chronic ear infections. I'm 42 years old now, so this was years ago. I thank my parents for saving my hearing. Flying in a plane didn't hurt my ears, but going under water more than 3ft was a bit uncomfortable. They made special ear molds for ear plugs to wear...those helped. Super common procedure. No issues as an adult now.
    Good luck in your decision.

Two of my kids had tubes after chronic ear infections. Tubes are magical! They are so helpful when a kid has ear infections that won’t clear up. I would do the tubes procedure a million times again. The recovery from the surgery is so fast, like the same day they are playing and feeling better.

Oh ear tubes! My arch nemesis! 😂😂. I had my first set of ear tubes the day after my first birthday. Unfortunately I was one that grew up getting them every few years all they way into my 20s. I’m 35 and have t had any since 2017 so I’ve hopefully grown out of it.
Flying isn’t an issue, but you can not get them wet. When it comes to pool time or bath/shower time, he’ll need to wear ear plugs. They usually fall out on their own at about 1 year, although I’ve had some sets fall out sooner. Just be aware that after he gets them done, everything will be way louder and it may bother him until he’s used to it. Best of luck Jackson!

I've had 2 kiddos with ear tubes and they were very easy to manage. Plane rides were easier with tubes as their ears are always "open". In terms of water - our ENT told us to use plugs if we were in fresh water but we didn't need plugs for pools or salt water. The surgery itself took under 10 minutes and they were both back to normal within 24 hours. Good luck!

I had tubes in my ears due to ear infections and hearing. I had to get fitted ear plugs for swimming lessons once I was clear to swim (they fall out and the doctor will let you know when they do, you won’t see them). I had the surgery when I was 3 and 35 now and still deal with occasional infections. I saw an ear specialist a few years ago and they said to keep your ears dry. Blow dryer on low heat after swimming or showers against your ear and pull the lobe a bit to open up the canal to get it dry, and when desperate, ear drying drops.

Basically you just need earplugs for anything involving water and we never did anything on the plane the ENT dr should tell you everything you need to know. My daughter had tubes too and hers fell out 3 yrs after, they fall out when ready. Hope Jackson feels better! Ear infections stink but he’ll feel so much better after get tubes. Good luck and positive thoughts sent your way!

Florida is a lot like Arizona. Anything below 75 degrees is "chilly" for those of us that are from either of those states or have lived in them for a long time. You can always tell who the tourists and snowbirds are here in Arizona this time of year because they are the ones in t-shirts and shorts acting like its summer, while the rest of us are bundled up and celebrating the winter weather. 🤣 I'm originally from Colorado and lived there for 18 years before moving here to Arizona 13 years ago. However, I still couldn't even imagine being in -30+ degree weather!

Ear tubes were the best thing we did for our son. He had ear infections for what seemed like 8 months off and on and after tubes twice since. He was 2-1/2 when we put them in and he’s now 22. Also his speech improved after the tubes as Dr. explained to us his hearing was like hearing under water.
I will recommend getting ear plugs directly from ENT as they worked the best for us along with a headband to keep them in. Jackson will do just fine!

My son had tubes in his ears and they made a WORLD of difference for him! Seriously cut down continuous ear infections to barely anything. He was having delays with hearing and speech because of all the ear issues and the tubes really cleared up a lot of issues! One fell out on his own. He didn't even notice. The other we had removed when it didn't come out fully on its own but it was painless and simple. I was scared for my son to have the procedure but honestly he was more upset about the anesthesia than the actual procedure! Honestly, took a nap and was up playing 2 hours after we got home. I hope whatever you choose to do feels right for you!

I'm 29 and I had tubes as a baby. No issues. My daughter got tubes at a year. Different doctors will tell you different things, but she could take baths/swim without ear plugs right away. She was able to fly on a plane. She did still get ear infections once a month for like 5 or 6 months after her tubes, but hasnt had one since then (about a year since her last infection).

I'm 43 and I had tubes as a kid, so they're not new. My daughter also had them. Yes, a plane is still fine. You can go under water, but you have to completely cover their ears, so we got these squishy, clay-like ear plugs that our pediatrician recommended and we had to put them in any time she went swimming or took a shower. It's super important that the tubes don't get/stay wet. They will fall out on their own at some point, and they're much smaller than you think they are so you may never notice they're gone. Every time he goes in for a check up they will look for them.

I had tubes in my ears several times as a kid (I'm now 30). The last time I recall having it done was when I was eight. It's just a day surgery and he'll probably feel tired and icky after being under anesthesia, but it'll be okay! I also recall not having to go back under when they took them out - that was just a routine doctor's visit and there was no pain at all. The biggest issue was having to avoid getting water in my ears the entire time I had tubes (which I'm assuming is still a thing?) so Jackson will most likely have to wear earplugs when swimming.
Also, your dinner looked really good. Thanks for sharing!

I had ear tubes put it when I was 6 (turned 31 this year).
I remember getting a popsicle when I woke up after the procedure, and my mom took care of my tamagatchi while I was out. I knew how often I was ill with ear infections, and how long I spent waiting in clinics for a doctor's appointment, so I was glad to have the tubes. I've had no issues with ear infections since. It was really significant, how much it helped me.
I had to wear ear plugs during my swimming lessons for a while post-op, but felt no pressure or anything while swimming. I went on to be a lifeguard (well after the tubes fell out), and experienced no issues later on with first aid/lifeguarding training. I don't experience pain from ear pressure when flying, but my ears do feel 'stuffy' when I get off a plane.
My sister had the same procedure later on, and she had a similar experience to me. The only difference for us was that she reacted to the anesthesia, so she was very nauseous for a day or two after, while I had no issue.

I'm 49 and I did have tubes when I was little. My son had tubes when he was a toddler as well. I don't recall any restrictions or limitations when you have the tubes. We didn't have any issues with the actual tubes and it helped my son a lot and didn't get any more ear infections.

Tubes are simple due to now days you can get them done at the doctors office now. Make sure to get fitted earplugs for swimming/showering/bathing. Flights are just fine. If its anything like it was 30 years ago make sure to have fitted ear plugs. Otherwise you will have more ear infections and they are no fun at all.

Several things 🤣: We love 1hr+ long videos when they come out because its like "Tim Tracker: The Movie". It's a nice treat lol!
I had ear infections when I was little and had tubes. I was so young I dont even remember it. I dont remember ever having another ear issue into adulthood (31 now). No plane issues (if I feel anything I just yawn and pop my ears), was also on the swim team lol. I guess it was better doing it as young as possible because I dont even remember it. Also less scar tissue from ongoing issues. Every doc ever can tell in an instant I had ear issue young because of scar tissue.
My husband and I have done scratchers for a long time here and there. we've done the like $50-$100 bulk buys ($5-$10) rarely but we're lucking if we even get like 30% back. Still a good time haha.

My son had numerous ear infections in a row over his first year. The tubes stopped the infections. But their ear canal changes when they are 5, making ear infections less possible. So if the tubes don’t fall out by 6, he’ll need a second procedure to remove them. He’ll be anesthetized and it’s a super quick procedure.
They actually help on planes because they reduce the air pressure

Our daughter struggled with ear infection after ear infection. She got tubes at 18 months and has yet to get another ear infection. She’s not a freshman in college. I would recommend on getting the surgery. Good
Luck and we will be praying for little buddy to feel better soon!!

My oldest daughter had tubes in her ears as a toddler. The procedure was quick and it solved her ear infections. She was able to eventually swim with no issues. She took swim lessons at the YMCA and loved swimming at the summer camps as well. A few years later we flew to Indiana and everything was fine.

Our son had tubes. Took adenoids at same time as they realized they were so enlarged.
NO issue with flying, multiple flights, but did get earplanes (drug store purchase). Only thing is that you have to really be cautious getting water in ears. Had to always have moldable earplugs. Fell out after about 4 years or so as he grew out of them.
Pros were so much better than the cons

I had tubes put in my ears when I was 5. I am 43 years old now. One fell out on its own, and one had to be removed later. It was very safe. I couldn't hear anything behind me and had many ear infections before them. It helped immensely and I could hear normally after.

I’m 43 and had ear tubes put in probably 5 times. It was a different procedure back then. My niece just had them put in and it was a very fast procedure that has helped. Just need to wear ear plugs in the water. Eventually he’ll outgrow it and won’t need the tubes any more.

I got ear tubes twice in my early 20’s (15+ yrs ago). I was not allowed to get any water in my ears. Had to wear an earplug in the shower and swimming, couldn’t go under water. It sucked. My 9 yr old has had them twice in the last few years. They don’t make her wear ear plugs in the shower or swimming in a chlorinated pool. If she swims in “dirty” water (lake/ocean) she either has to wear ear plugs or we put prophylactic drops in her ears that night. So much less work now.
I am also a surgical nurse in a hospital OR and ear tubes are one of the most common and easiest prpcedures we do.

My second child had ear tubes at 2 years old and they saved our lives he struggled with so many ear infections and it actually made his talking behind and he stopped getting ear infections just had to be cautious about water in the ears so we bought moldable ear covers to protect when bathing or swimming it just made our life so much easier. And he grew out of the ear infections

My niece had tubes, it took her a few bad ear aches to finally get them. Her only side effect is that she lost a little bit of her hearing which had her hard to hear certain things. She did get an IEP for auditory processing and in school she is able to have certain things that help her, such a all her testing is done in a quiet room, also she sometimes gets her test directions reread to her and in some classes she gets her notes taken for her, because it was hard for her listen and write at the same time. Parents need to fight for these accommodations if the child has these issues-Hope all goes well and he never needs tubes.
