I stopped answering old phone calls from friends and I’m just now realizing I can’t help my mother change as well.. it’s hard to accept but you become stronger mentally when you finally do. Those people will always drag you down to their low level of negativity and anger. They are angry inside and only get happiness when others feel that same anger/unhappiness. The best thing you can do is stay positive and shove the positivity down their throat, eventually people will cave and become better people or they will leave you alone.
