I think this is a well-written and sophisticated political drama. It presents an accurate picture of how the US and Japanese States respond to Principled Solidarity with DPR Korea and features some of their methods of censoring Pro-Peace, Anti-Imperialist views. I think if you were to extend the series beyond its miniseries length, it would be an excellent idea to go into more depth and develop all of the characters to showcase the different ideologies and political and personal interests and motivations that drive the various political actors. I think the series comes across as a very honest attempt to chronicle the activities of this journalist and his daughter and introduce the viewer to the international politics around DPR Korea and International Solidarity. I think it would be a positive step if professors with a commitment to peace and an improvement of relations with Korea, both in Korea, in the US and internationally would show this in their courses with appropriate background readings and follow it up with a respectful critical discussion.

Odd how they are still using cameras from the 1960s

I am fascinated by the fact that movies made in the late 2000s still look like they were made in the 1980s. I can understand that they use old cameras, but they still need to buy the film stock somewhere.

The film was made on 35mm film, like a lot of today's films. The issue is that the film was put onto DVD, which cuts down the quality of the video a lot.

    LOL.....This is fuckin' hysterical.
The world is developing "Centered around the DPRK"?
Well worth the watch just for the propaganda value.
I wonder if the scenes shot in Japan were actually filmed on location?

God, I would *highly* doubt it. This was created in 1988, just a couple years before the arduous march hit and the country was at it's near breaking point. Imagining Korean film producers being able to take the expensive flight back and forth to a country that wants nothing to do with them seems super unlikely. However !!... (cont)

There is an organization of Korean residents living in Japan called Chongryon that could have been potentially involved with the creation of this film. This is still extremely unlikely because in the 1970's North Korea got in big trouble with Japan when they kidnapped Japanese citizens to create spies.
