  • My poor experience with Joybird.
    The risk of bad service in 2020 is that your customers have the same tools and technology for publishing and distributing their results that you have to publish and distribute your marketing. Here's the video I made when I'd had enough.

    I ordered 6k worth of furniture from Joybird. Luckily I saw this video shortly after. Turned into a worm hole of finding horrible review after horrible review. Canceled my order and got my money back. Thank you so much for posting this video. You saved me a HUGE headache.

    Well if it makes you feel better I’m a single mom of two kids and every damn dollar counts, was literally on the website looking to drop about 2500 on a new couch as a treat to me and my kids. Thank you for your review. You just saved me a headache

    Thank you for this honest review!! We were very interested in a $4200 sofa sectional from Joybird. HOWEVER, after seeing your video and reading the many comments, we will spend our money elsewhere. Honesty is a glorious thing.

    Update: Today is March 24th 2022.
    16,289 views. 225 comments. Judging exclusively by the people who explicitly said that they were convinced by the video to not buy or to cancel an order Joybird's poor service with me has cost them a minimum or 54 sales, which (at an est. average $3000) cost them's at least $162,000.
    In addition this video is also being monetized by UA-cam. They use it to sell ads for competing furniture companies.
    To date I haven't spent any money promoting the video.

    If you're watching this video, run for the hills just as he says! I watched this video and thought "bad experience, wont happen to me" and ordered a $2,800 couch the next day in October 2020. Here is it January 2021 and I am still waiting on my couch, with no updates on the follow your build page EVER, and poor communication from the company. Don't Do It! I don't even want the couch anymore because of the poor experience, I'll be seeking a full refund if it does not arrive by the end of the month.

    Was looking at Joybird and your video has made me changed my mind..I was thinking of spending about 3K with them. I realize that things happen, but clearly they were not committed to make sure you were taken care of. Sad because their stuff looks so nice! Hope they resolved your issue and keep this video up!     I just reached out to joybird and linked this video. Their response had a lot of integrity and addressed all the concerns I had after watching your video (which is very well made btw)
    Thankyou for taking the time to make this. I was on the fence bc a close friend of mine bought from joybird, got it early, and her couch is awesome.
    Seems like their consistency was in question over the pandemic

      You’re right, run for the hills. This has been god awful. They stole my money and gave me half of a sectional in return. My cat keeps falling off the open side. Joybird is ghosting me regarding the missing half of my +$2500 order. Thank god I have a spare ottoman to create a makeshift seating setup. Begging and pleading with “customer service” for someone with authority got me nowhere, so I filed a complaint with the BBB. We’ll see how that goes. I feel like Joybird customers need their own advocacy group; my issue is common, and Joybird doesn’t care.

    My spouse and I can't even get our couch shipped! There was a "glitch" with our order so we have to wait another month (at least) on top of the two whole months we've already waited. HAHAHAHA I'm just messing with you, Brian. We're canceling, we're getting a refund, and I'm gonna use my own social media platform to share YOUR VIDEO I'm thinking... I dunno -- once a month at least? I'll just set a reminder on my phone to do it. No skin off my back! Anyway, thank you for this video.       @@dustinwoodward5250 It's been a minute since this happened, but I seem to recall having made multiple calls inquiring about the status of the order before finally getting an honest answer and then repeatedly demanding a refund until they acquiesced. But who knows if their policies have changed since then.

    I fucking love this guy. The last minute is pure gold. You're the real MVP.
    Also- from a ux perspective, maybe change the border of the thumbnail to white from black. Makes the video pop a little more to the users eye and could potentially attract more clicks. All the other videos thumbnails associated with joybirds tag are all pretty and eye catching.
    Also, I was contemplating buying a couch from them and now am seriously on the fence. You keep fighting the good fight against companies who have done you wrong, good sir..

    Great review. We are looking to purchase a fabric sectional here in the near future. We last bought a couch at American Freight 10 years ago (pre-kids & low budget) and it held up nicely as it still looks decent. Yet the recliners no longer work and its time. Anyhow, we discovered that no matter where you go, no matter the retailer, the prices of couches are astronomical. The quality of the couch does not meet the price. There seems to be pros & cons for just about every single couch we have researched. We have been to Rooms-to-go, Haverty's, American Signature, Ashley's, Lovesac, Joybird, Woodchucks, Baers, Ikea, and more... This process has become more frustrating than buying a house or car. Curious as to what did you end up buying, where, and your review of that new couch. Once again, thanks for your review!

      Joe, that's a great observation. Ended up buying from West Elm. The couch is far nicer and a bit larger. The mechanics of the pull out bed and the storage area are also better. The service was good. If we had it to do over we may have gone for a model with an extra squishy seat but that's the hazard of pull-outs.

    I bought a Joybird couch in 2019. Took awhile, but arrived perfectly. 3 years later and a LOT of abuse, it still looks AMAZING. I bought a bed yesterday from them. :) I live in a suburb of Dallas Texas. Have no affiliations with them. Just loved the look of the couch, bought it, have been thrilled with it and now I'll wait, albeit patiently, on my new bed.

    Thank you so much for this video. Was interested in this company, but it’s a hard pass. This wasn’t a small mistake. I’m not interested in any company that could make that large of a blunder on an order, that’s kind of a red flag, no matter who else had a good experience. Will buy from elsewhere

    I bought a couch and ottoman from them, took a while to ship (didn't choose one of the default upholstries that ships fast) but everything came together and intact, and I quite like the quality. That's not to say your horrible experience is invalid, but this isn't representative to every experience with them.

What was most bothersome is that Joybird clearly has no system for how to address the situation when there isn't a good outcome. May I ask what city you shipped to?

      @@BrianReynoldsofNJ Yeah, I wouldn't feel as positive if my shipment had been messed up, even if they did make it right. But luckily it shipped fine. I think I did actually contact support to adjust the pricing to a better sale they ran between when I ordered and when it arrived, which they happily obliged (they're never not running a sitewide sale, if anyone is unfamiliar). It was shipped to a suburb of Boston, MA.

    Thank you so much for this video. I imagine the gap is because it was made to replace the “missing” section and the dimensions didn’t add up. For that kind of money their prices should be flawless. Moving on from considering Joybird as an option.

    I got my order. Its unacceptable, but I already paid. So I’m screwed. They comped me less than $200 for having HALF a couch for weeks. After they lost my couch, twice. Then left me half-couch for so long, whilst remaining impossible to get a hold of. I had to involve the BBB to get the other half of my sofa because they refused to communicate with me. The damn thing doesn’t align. Likely because the 2 pieces weren’t made together. Joybird is a trash company, overpriced and most importantly they ignore their customers, as if its a business protocol. I don’t understand how they’re still in business. This company is garbage. While the people employed there might not be terrible humans, they definitely act like it on the clock.

      I went with West Elm. I like what I got anc they made it easy, but I've decided that the whole sector is overpriced.

    I used to know someone that delivered them, they’re horribly packaged and horribly made. Half of them would be damaged or missing the holes to even screw in the legs 😂 I can’t believe people paid thousands of dollars for these things, I guess it’s all about marketing. They would have donate them to thrift stores when they were damaged, I guess it’s more expensive to have them returned and fixed, that should tell you something.

      Don’t give your money to a marketing company that’s having cheap furniture assembled in Mexico under the guise of being “American made”. Go to a West Elm or Pottery Barn, or Costco, their furniture is properly made.

    I should have watched this video before purchasing my patio set. I purchased it in November and got it delivered on December 27th. So it took a lil over a month but that's not where the nightmare begins. When our shipment arrived the delivery guys unboxed the product and was going to assemble but then they "realized" that there were NO hardware to put the set together. They got us on the phone to speak to the representative and we were told that it would be shipped within 7 to 10 business days. A week had passed and nothing. No confirmation emails not a word. Reached out to them again and they told us to file a claim and that will take 2 days to go through. But that week passed and we still haven't heard anything from them. So I give them a call and also emailed them but I was given the run around. I told them that I need to get my hardware shipped or give me a full refund as I spent 2k on this set And its literally sitting in my garage in pieces 😒 finally I was told that I can go buy my own hardware to assemble which is unheard of or wait 3 to 4 more weeks to get the hardware because the vendor do not have them in stock. Smh!!!! Like how is any of this making sense. So til this day it's still in my garage untouched. Very very disappointing.

    WOW! I'm trying to get my hands on a Franklin Grand / Fluff Daddy chaise. That's when I ran across the JoyBird Bryan - which is more. I've contemplated purchasing. BUT, I just saw your vid. I don't know if you got your situation sorted but I hope so. The power of social media!! Just the few comments that I read show that you've likely cost JB 10x more than if they had just handled your situation correctly. I'll keep searching for the Fluff Daddy! Thanks!!

    For that price that should have been smooth sailing. i have been in the sofa buying dilemma for months. just can not pull the trigger on anything. i had three in mind. i bought one that had a free trial of 60 days and free shipping. most of these companies do that. but you have to read the fine print and ask the rt questions. because someone on UA-cam put up a link that directed people to their free shipping page. turns out they were going to charge a 20% restocking fee if the sofa was returned. the sofa that was 1500 bucks. that would amount to 300 bucks of wasted money. they did cap those restocking fees at 250, like they were doing their customers a favor. no way I'd waste money on restocking fees. needless to say i cancelled it that same day. the honest reviews people give on here are so appreciated! thanks for taking the time to do it. of the three i am considering only one seems to ave a lot of confidence in their sofas. Simply because they say free returns and have no hidden cost. i even asked if they had a restocking fee, and they said no. they are too new for me to actually chance it yet. most reviews are positive and on their site.

    This cannot be more accurate! I really thought that this company was going to be pleasant. I really thought, I spent over 3GS and the good customer service should come along with it. I’ve had the worst experience with them. No one answers the phone. No one responds to my emails. I’m going to be giving birth in May and I really thought that I would have a brand new sofa by then. I ordered it a month ago. I just found out that it hasn’t even started yet.

      I got something from West Elm which was more expensive but has turned out pretty good. I think the right suggestion is to buy what you can sit in first. Also, if you can, don’t get rid of your old setup until you’ve decided to keep the new one.

    I am also in a tough situation with Joybird. I should have done better research. The problems existed before COVID. The evidence is all over the internet.

      I can! For a minute we considered keeping the couch if they refunded the cost entirely, but after thinking on it we decided that we didn't want to sit on this thing day in and day out without being happy. Joybird made us an offer to reduce the price by a couple hundred dollars and resend us a couch section. Our concern there was that after discovering that Joybird was a Lay-Z-Boy property we realized that the had pretty firm logistics and that meant that we were going to have the same guys handling it all over again. I asked what happens to it if we send it back and was told that due to the cost of shipping they would make it a donation to charity somewhere neat the local hub. We decided to send it back. Sadly, when we asked the guys who came to pick it up they told us that if goes right into the dumpster. That felt really shitty. We wound up living on lawn furniture in the living room for a week before the delivery came from West Elm (with whom we had a wonderful experience if a more costly one). Looking back I feel good about the decision to send it all back. If we would have waited for the next Joybird delivery it would have put delivery smack in the middle of the first month of lockdown and there was no guarantee we wouldn't have been in the same situation all over again.

      It's great, incredibly comfortable. It was more than we had intended to spend but after the long aggravation we were happy to spend the extra money. At the time they also had a 0% financing, which was nice.

      Brian Reynolds I was ready to get a sofa from west elm but their Facebook page is flooded with bad reviews of people waiting decades for their ordering. I need a couch and now I am scared of west elm and joy bird 😔

    Wow. So sorry you had such a horrible experience. I went through a few bumps with joybird myself mine was related to horrible customer service in their Brooklyn store. After a few conversations with friends and family as well as compliant letter. I kept the couch actually 9 months later purchased a second couch. I love love them both. Sometimes shit happens.....

      They did refund me. What I thought made no sense at all was that they then threw out the couch and chair, at least according to the movers that took it away.

      @@BrianReynoldsofNJ They have to do that. Getting someone to take the couch is more effort involved, scheduling involved, questions about what is wrong with it. Refunding you and letting you keep the couch leaves them open to abuse when people hear that you can keep a refunded chair.

    I ordered a couch from joy bird and it came in a month later than they said and it is hard as a freaking rock. Now, to return it I have to pay $160 restocking fee plus $300 to ship it back. Guess what, they delivered it with no boxes or shipping materials. Smh never ever buy from joybird.
