This is fantastic. I really like your inspiring hand made structures painted in prewar colors. Well done and thanks for sharing this remarkable layout!
I keep coming back, love it, must have viewed this layout at least a dozen times on this vid alone. I really like the fact you stayed with a theme of materials that would have been used back then as running standard gauge on a layout that uses plaster or foam mountains, woodland scenics materials , it removes the trains from the time period they were played with and how they were depicted. This may be small but it's true to it's time other than the fastrack but it's easier to work with and it's the only thing modern so it leaves the sense of another time in a way that doesn't detract from it much and I'd like to see what you do with a 10x10 or just double what you have, is there ever enough room... hahaha,
I get to laugh at myself. It's been two years since being online and forgot my info and realized it's below as grandma x 7, So you see, I do in fact keep coming back, it's the best tinplate I've seen in years for it's size and the colors are great. Thanks for sharing.
I may have come up with the idea of building a more to scale MTH Mikey & Minnie handcar first, however your detailed paint job puts mine to shame. You blew it out of the ball park! Great layout and trains!
I noticed his painting right away, it makes it stand out and the color selections blend very well, he's one of my top two favorite for standard gauge layouts and it's not huge but very nicely done, I come back to it often and even the older vids of the layout but can only give a thumbs up once, I guess ya gotta be dead to vote more than once.
My Mikey & Minnie handcar stopped working yesterday. I cleaned the wheels and center rollers off with a round soft brass brush on my Dremel and it ran like a rocket. Reminder to myself, "clean handcar wheels at least every 8 years." (-;
Beautiful little layout with great music! Would you be so kind to tell me what the wall in the back of the layout with the billboards is made from? It looks like it's carved from wood.
I purchased some cheap 8' strips of lumber from a hardware store for about $1.50 a piece. I cut the strips into blocks and sanded them down to make the entrance of the tunnels and some of the supports for the elevated rail. The back billboard wall is made out of scrap wood that I notched with a saw and chisel to form the brick pattern. I painted over everything in "classic" tinplate-esque colors and then glued the billboards to the wall. The billboards are prints on photo paper that were mounted to foam board. It was a fun project that didn't cost much and I like the way it looks.
This is FANTASTIC!!! I'm about to start to make my own Prewar Layout on a 5 X 9 board. I hope to make it in a "Tinplate-Prewar / Halloween motif. Please help with some advice!!!
The Mickey and Minnie handcar is actually an inexpensive, easy to make custom build. I used an MTH handcar that I found. I removed the existing characters and replaced them with the Mickey and Minnie characters found on a Hallmark Keepsake Ornament.
I have all sorts on the table. The oldest is an American Flyer from the 1920's. There's a mixed assortment of rolling stock from the 1930's and my dad gave me some trains from the 40's and 50's. The nice and shiny trains are all reproductions.
That's a blue American Flyer 3013 Electric from 1927. The Hiawatha orange engine is a Lionel 1689 from 1935. I shattered this engine into about 20 pieces when I ran it off the table onto my basement floor. I decided to give it a new paint scheme. The 254 (green) and 260 (black) are both Lionel corporation reissues by MTH. The Mickey and Minnie handcar are custom made courtesey of this video: ua-cam.com/video/OTx0W6o-qwQ/v-deo.html
Keep coming back, this is a real gem, hope it's still up and in use. For a small layout it remains one of my favorite on UA-cam.

Best small tinplate layout with selection of varied product brands, toys and colors well chosen.Comevbackbto this vid often.
It's the busiest I've seen the layout and the trains just get better.
This prewar train layout is intricate and detailed. A true work of art! Photography is marvelous.....

Awesome! Alot of railroading for a small area. Great scenery and camera shots. The illusion of space and depth is great. Fabulous!

Just have fun and enjoy the hobby.
The 1689 looks dynamite in the hyawatha scram , it needs some red mechanical passenger cars painted to match!
Very nice I enjoyed watching this could to tell me the make and even a model of of the micky and Minnie bump and go hand car please

YO ADAMIC PUNNK, SUP BRO
Come on dude, Amos Moses, gotta love that music though.
Beautiful trains. Have you restored them, or original ( mint! ) condition?

Where did you find the backdrop?
I made it from various vintage poster art images that I spliced together in Photoshop. It was printed on a roll of photo paper.
what is the blue with orange windows electric seen at the beginning of the video, please?

"Take the A Train"
Kind of neat but kind of boring the same trains on the same straight loop standard has the Nicest trains but most boring layouts
Marx ...Marx ...I love Marx as well as Croucho but not Karl .
What happened to the music?
