Such perfect timing, as in my SKT campaign, the players are only a few days away from Luskan. These lore videos are a treasure, thanks for doing the research and putting them up each week!
Amazing video. Cities is a ripe subject and helps my campaign amazingly :D Word of advice giving your party an airship means you gotta know your faerun geography ;)
I played through SKT with a homebrew class; the Pugilist. Basically, the Pugilist is to the Monk what Conor McGregor is to Bruce Lee. Anyway, this character was born and raised on the streets of Luskan, having to fight just to get his next meal or find somewhere to sleep where he won't get mugged or attacked. For him, the life of an adventurer was a way out of poverty. The DM really appreciated me integrating my character into the setting and when the party got to Luskan, he rewarded me with inside knowledge on the city, like a chef knows his kitchen.
I'm surprised you didn't highlight Archmage Gromph (as others pointed out) and Jarlaxle Baenre's rather important roles in the city at present. My impression from reading is that Jax basically secretly rules the ships and thus the city with the Bregan D'aerthe mercenary company.
Luskan isn't secretly being controlled by The Arcane Brotherhood, it's secretly being controlled by the Jarlaxle of the Bregan D'Arthe, and one of the ship lords is a disguised high ranking member of Bregan D'Arthe.
Alias of 1487, Gromph former arch mage of Menzobernzen and a couple other key figures reside in the host tower. And there is a portal leading from the host tower to Gantlgrym.
Drow male partisan life there now and Effective rule Luskan from the shadow like a deep state. Since they are affiliated with Mithril hall & direct magic connection of the luskan tower to gauntlgrym primodial. Their align shift to true neutral. Safely Away from Female Drow SJC (social justice clerics) in menzoberanzan. The most powerful female Drow in faerun now live in luskan too. I guess, she find underdark tunnels & drow intrigue boring af.
I've enjoyed watching your videos for some time and I'm surprised you don't have a stronger following yet. Thank you and keep up the good work! I always look forward to the videos.
I would love to see a vid based on two geographic locations. Possibly dichotomous. Maybe a more popular area and a lesser known. I.e. Impiltur and Var the Golden. That would give lots of lore for people new to the settings but also engaging people who have been traveling the realms for decades. 😊just a thought
I read the Drizzt series and Luskan was featured there though there were no mention of the "ships" and i got the impression that the Arcane Brotherhood ruled Luskan
@@cullenfarran3750 lol, its a 2 year old comment. I have already almost completely forgotten the Drizzt series. I read up to book 10 and then got bored of it
Are there particulary books in the d&d History about Luskan and its inhabitants and construction? Do you know where to start pirate adventures located there?
I started every campaign in Luskan, best city on the North. My carachter is Kocos the pirate, human, chaotic evil, lvl5 Thief / lvl 10 Assassin, illegitimate daughter of Kurth the High Captain!!
Ah, the City of Sails. It was once a place where you could make an honest living, now it's a place for just...living. Just don't mess with the High Captains, or come between their infighting. And Gods forbid you've sworn fealty to the Lords Alliance in Waterdeep, they don't take kindly to those idealistic kinds... Not here in the North, not in Luskan.
It took me approximately 8 of your videos to hear what youre actually saying as your intro. That the ph is silent. It was so fast I was not getting it 😂😂😂 (non native English speaker).
I been reading the realms for almost 2 decades now and would like to know the reference to the arcane brotherhood retaking the tower back. Not trying to discredit your research. I am curious of what i have missed since last i knew there were no more realms being written which has changed here recently. I love the realms always and forever. Watch out for the controversial b.s.
I pulled that information from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide, page 98. "...was the return of the Arcane Brotherhood and its five-spired tower." I assumed they were taking up residence in the tower again based on the above and later they reference them as "Wizards of the Hosttower" on the same page. "...each wizard of the Hosttower chooses a color or a design, and a moniker to match it." If I'm wrong please do tell and I'll pin the comment to try and get the facts right :)
woah woah woah woah ice and snow cant be evil because they don't have you know feelings. because you think they are evil and YOU don't agree with the way of Ice is pain and sufferings there is no comfort here lowlander
This channel is ENORMOUSLY underrated.
Luskan is the ideal jumping off point for my pirate story. Thank you for giving me a concise description and history for it
I watched that pirate cartoon with the red flying monky when I was a kid.
Pirates of Dark Water or bust! :D

Airship fun! 😄

A kitchen that he punches to get his food.

I try to stay away from the novels as not to spoil them. But you're right it's an important part of luskan
Which books cover these subjects?
chapter 3 of Neverwinter Nights goes into Luskan
I love watching these videos and now I'm back rewatching city videos for my campaign! Love your work keep it up man!

Still good @jorphdan Would be an amazing setting for a campaign.
Surprised that began dearth was not mentioned.
A Races of the Realms video would be pretty cool.
Alias of 1487, Gromph former arch mage of Menzobernzen and a couple other key figures reside in the host tower. And there is a portal leading from the host tower to Gantlgrym.
Erik Endsley I was about to type the same info
Alias? the same Alias that was adventuring with Dragonbait in song of the saurial?
I hope this is not a spoiler from out of abyss..

I thought Erik meant Eleasias,or our August.
A vid on the Arcane Brotherhood would be cool.
Just what I needed for some inspiration for a campaign I’m working on :D
I've enjoyed watching your videos for some time and I'm surprised you don't have a stronger following yet. Thank you and keep up the good work! I always look forward to the videos.
Thanks so much! We're growing slow and steady 😁
Made me think of underground lake caverns and waterways for under dark sailing
Oddly most of my daydreams start in a tavern here.
Pretty good, pretty good. Concise, informative. Pretty good!
Thanks! I hope you found it helpful.
Ah, the city of sales: where I go whenever I want to get a good deal on a weapon or suit of armour.
Another fantastic lore video!
I was under the impression that Gromp took over the host tower.
Love your stuff !! ^^ Keep up the great work.
ah luskan... the jewel of the north... glad i installed new leadership and cleaned it up

Keep reading. When you get to the pirate king it goes into it deeply. And actually features the Litch he spoke of destroying about half the city.
@@cullenfarran3750 lol, its a 2 year old comment. I have already almost completely forgotten the Drizzt series. I read up to book 10 and then got bored of it
I stand by what I said o.o
Love these Forgotten Realms lore videos! Very informative. Thank you!
I miss this city series
Maybe I should bring it back!
Thanks, I just love all your videos!! Keep up the good work
Are there particulary books in the d&d History about Luskan and its inhabitants and construction?
Do you know where to start pirate adventures located there?
I would love to see a video about the drow gods
Put a Cormyr video in my life please. PLEASE! Great videos, they are like pringles... taste one and never stop until you finish them all.
pls do more "places" videos!! they are awesome! Luskan was a high in my kanpagne (did a more pirat theme for luskan but was super fun)
no info on how Jarlaxle is the current lord of Luskan? a lord in general wasnt mentioned in general when you described who ruled it.
I started every campaign in Luskan, best city on the North. My carachter is Kocos the pirate, human, chaotic evil, lvl5 Thief / lvl 10 Assassin, illegitimate daughter of Kurth the High Captain!!
That's sweet :D
PIRATES OF DARK WATER! So cool!
There's also an interesting number of people who are exiled from Luskin
these are fantastic resources
what about the drow incursion from the R.A. Salvator series?
those pirates of dark water pics tho...
More of these videos please
Very interesting, though I am still partial to Waterdeep and Baldur's Gate.
What about Lusken's Prisoner's Carnival?
"City of Sails" is another name for Auckland, New Zealand lol
Ah, the City of Sails. It was once a place where you could make an honest living, now it's a place for just...living. Just don't mess with the High Captains, or come between their infighting. Could you do a video about the Shinning South? Please include The Shaar... thx!
I love this city. pirate vikings ruled by evil wizards
yay new video!!! Next do Dalelands... I "dare" you =-P
yamakiBR I concur
0:43 A giant lead orc hoard? Silly orcs, lead isn't treasure!
What! I liked your moonshae isles video!
It was ok, I just forgot I had made it :P
Hey what song is his outro? Love dat beat. Love videos too.
Links in the description!
What is qualified as a major city? Is silverymoon?
@Jorphdan Bruh, I would love a Mirabar video
If FR had nuclear power Luskan would be Chernobyl.
Didn't Bregan D'aerthe play a big part there?
Is it a coincidence that one of the human ethnicities sounds similar to that? Il-(luskan)?
Probably not coincidence. I'd say Luskan and old Illusk was specifically named after those tribes of people known as Illuskan.
It took me approximately 8 of your videos to hear what youre actually saying as your intro. That the ph is silent. It was so fast I was not getting it 😂😂😂 (non native English speaker).
What happened to the Farim (idk how to spell it)
They're stuck in the anauroch desert. Magically trapped there, underground
Keep doing place videos plz
Why is it spelled "Cutless Island" rather than "Cutlass Island"?
This is perfectly timed because my players are headed there.

I heard Jarlaxle is now the secret political power running Luskan.
David Logeman he has been for decades.
Heh. haven't seen a reference to the Pirates of Dark Water in a long time. The cartoon was pretty bad, but it's characters were interesting.
The premise of the cartoon I thought was great, but poorly executed... And that animation .... ugh.
Hay lol
That beginning cracks me up - but really i love how informative and insightful your videos are .
dude
Update
Hay. Lol
