Glad to hear those Ol' Workhorses fire up there for you. Seems odd seeing snow that far south. You folks definitely got more snow that we did in my area. Take Care.
You’re right on the older Deere’s not starting when it’s cold. The 2640 I had wouldn’t hardly thing about starting in the cold. The newer ones are better. I got my 5400 out the other day when it was in the 20’s and it fired right up, no heater, ether, or anything.
@@Thomasfarmstn I never used it on that 2640 I had, but I don’t know if it would’ve helped or not. That thing was the most cold natured diesel I’ve ever seen. It’s like you couldn’t spin it over fast enough to start when it was cold.
It is 20 degrees here in Minnesota today. Feels like shirt sleeve weather compared to what it has been. 5 above for the high the last week or so.. I saw they had -30 to -40 temps further north in Canada. Glad we didn't get that cold.
Hello Russ nice start ups. 27° F here, you may need methyl hydrate in your airline for your truck. Does it have an evaporator on it. Going to start my John Deere 2555 see how it goes. Have a great day see you then
25 F or -4C as we call it over here 🇳🇱is not that cold. If it does not start it’s just a bad battery. Ideal weather to get some manure out on marshy grounds. But in warmer/dryer climates i would guess it would not be necessary to go out into the fields this time of year. Nice classic tractors you have there!
You are correct sir to a point. There are certain model of tractors that do not start well in the cold here. We have to older IH tractors that have good batteries that does not start well below 40 f. I was told it was the injection system. Just having fun and thanks on the comment about the tractors.
@@Thomasfarmstn luckily you live in Tennessee then. Here in the Netherlands it's a bit colder on average. We have some oldtimers too. Both one cylinder engines. Believe they were built in 1950 and have to crank them by hand.
Man yeah, i have to say the IH stuff start well in the cold, if the batteries are up!! I am by far no diesel mechanic, but after digging into the pump on the 1086, I know why they dont struggle as bad to start. From what I learned anyway 😁😁 That 5088 fired right up!! I finally broke down and got batteries for the 10 myself 🤣🤣🤣 Now to find time to install them!! What motor is in the Pete again? Hope y'all thawed out today , and thank you for bringing us along!! 😁😁🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
@@TheGrumpyFarmer Then I suggest you become monetized so you can fund those expensive batteries and starters and the extra wear and tear on the engines so you can afford to do cold starts.
So, I am under the impression that you went around and started 3 cold diesel engines for no necessary purpose other than for video content, correct????
Yes and no. The JD boys like to cold start their old tractors and let them cough and sputter for half an hour while pumping ether and with jumper cables attached to them. I wanted to show those guys what real tractors are. The Peterbilt I was gonna move if the air hadn’t been froze up.

Welcome to the channel Grizz! Thanks for the comment. I’m gonna pin this comment.
You need a shed to put that nice red equipment in.
Great minds think alike! I actually cold started most of our equipment on Saturday as well! My JDs cranked….
How cold was it?
It's awfully cold there buddy!
The temps were bad but the cold wasn’t that bad.
Looks chilly Russ! Man, they cranked right up!
We need an Arizona cold start Matt!

It’s slowly leaving today. Rain tomorrow to wash it away.
@@Thomasfarmstn We've had light rain here all day & with the temps we're having made it a little slick in places.

I don’t like ether. I don’t think it’s good on engines. Our Case Dozer loves it though.

Hey Russ, I was proud of ole green bean for cranking as good as he did. Stay warm hoss and God Bless y’all 🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸
The whole video was kinda boring with them starting that good:
My 1086 is a great cold starter and so is my Hydro 84.
I’ll have to check out that hydro. Those are rare aren’t they?
@@Thomasfarmstn they aren't very common. I'll get a video of me feeding the cows with it.

pretty impressive start up thanks for the video
Thanks Craig!
Nice cold starts. The 5088 sounds good
I knew it would fire right up!
Russ we all know the IH will start when it’s cold like mine I don’t try to start my JD when it’s that cold 😂😂
I just had to prove it!
They started good. I've got a 5088 too and she's the same way she will start anytime. Yes sir a 4440 won't start like that for sure.
We got a 656 diesel. It’s worse than a Deere.
@@Thomasfarmstn had one years ago I had 2 1000 cca batteries in it so you could glow plug it and get it started. Thanks for sharing the video.

We're gonna thaw out starting Monday 1/22. It's crazy to think about, but it's really not that far off until planting.
We are starting to thaw today.
that snow looks fun to play in. Lol
For about a day then it just sucks!
Good deal. We were 0 this morning and its 23 now.

I think that you have proved that you could have stuck your tongue on the exhaust. Lo, just to prove it, it started pretty easy
The Magnum was the one I thought would be the hardest to start.
It’s hard to beat those red tractors
That’s Right!
I love a cold start if it starts😂. Mine didnt today.
Hello Greg!
