    If you put them in a strainer after the ice bath and dry them completely you can then flash freeze them and vac seal them in portion sizes according to your needs. That avoids any additional frost over time. Just pull them from the freezer and pop them into a steamer (from frozen) and they literally cook in 5 minutes.
    A great video Jennifer for anyone! TFS and stay well!

    I like to do the same thing when my garden comes in . (August - November) . I omit the salt and blanch in a full rolling boil for no more than one minute . Kale takes four or five depending on how tough it is . Thanks for another good one !

    You can also vacuum seal the bags prior to freezing and will keep them fresh longer

    Hi Jennifer, Miss Sheila and you'all reading this, thanks for teaching me how to do this, I had no idea. Now I can buy fresh in season! Can you freeze fresh vegetables without blanching them, or is that different? Thanks for this GREAT video.

      You should always blanch most veggies, otherwise they wilt etc. You can store them longer.

    What happens if you don't don't blanch the veggies before freezing?

    • @CookingwithShotgunRed
      @CookingwithShotgunRed  4 роки тому +5

      Blanching is a must for almost all vegetables to be frozen. It stops enzyme actions which can cause loss of flavor, color and texture. Blanching cleanses the surface of dirt and organisms, brightens the color and helps retard loss of vitamins.

    Thanks

    Does blanching kill bacteria

    • @CookingwithShotgunRed
      @CookingwithShotgunRed  Рік тому

      Blanching can help clean the surface of vegetables and can kill bacteria, molds and other organisms existed on the surface of vegetables. Blanching stops the enzyme action. This will help preserve the taste, color, and texture of the vegetable. Blanching helps get the vegetables prepared for long-term freezer storage.
