It's really cool to see how the interviewer was genuinely trying to understand the band and what it stands for, rather than asking stupid generic shit.
Thank you very much! That (understanding) is something that I always try to do instead of doing stupid generic shit. Can't say I always succceed though.
Amazing band. They have been part of my commute to work each morning for a few weeks. I was not exposed to them until an album was discussed on a more recent episode of Heavy Metallurgy. Harder to find for me but was able to find a French-Canadian site selling their music.
Excellent interview, this was one of the expected interviews that I was waiting from the festival; thanks a lot Rauta for the interview, and for the effort to made it.
This is literally the only Forteresse video interview hahaha :P at least I can't find another, came back to it again be cause I'm listening to a lot of Monarque lately. It would've been cool to get some Q & A out of him about his side project while he was there. They seem like a good group of dudes and I love Forteresse music
I've been following this band since their debut. I love what they've done and was finally able to see them live for the first time in Montreal a few weeks ago. I've never really searched for interviews like this, so it's kind of odd seeing all of them speak in English. I don't speak a word of French. So when I saw them in the crowd in Montreal, I actually considered talking to them but I couldn't bring myself to talk to them in English, so I just didn't.
Great Interview. The video and sound quality is excellent as always. Meaningful questions asked too. Ive caught ear many times of them but I always forget to really give their material a serious listen; 'll try to do so after seeing this.
Forteresse and Monarque are really two great bands. Maybe the best representant of the Metal noir québecois along with Sombres forêts, SDG and even maybe Csejthe. Don't like Chasse Galerie tho
If you like Sombre forets, you must chek out Gris, pretty much in the same atmosphere and as good. And the 2 bands worket together on an album called Misere Luminis that is pretty damn good to, and a little more on the progressive side.
@@RautaMetal Sure, and I like some aspects of the necro sound too. But if it's so low-quality you're not able to hear riffs or musicianship, it's like throwing away all your effort and skill.
I always found this band interesting, though I don’t agree politically, they are part of the greater Canadian consciousness, so it’s worth hearing how they think and why, along with some great music
@@madaneau I’ll admit it does sound a bit pretentious, but what I mean is that they sing about Canadian issues, Québecois separatism, contrary to what many separatist’s might think, is a national issue, it’s even talked about here in BC (also I’m not sure what wasp means in this context, though I have seen it thrown around certain right-wing comments)
@@ericsimard4449 They voted and decided no to independence, so I’m not sure how much more popular liberty it can get. Like I said, I’m from BC, alors j’supose qu’il y a du context que je ne comprends pas
Great to find this interview. Just recently found this band and fell in love. Buuuuuut when you read "nationalism" as description for lyrical themes you get a bit anxious that it's nazi themes. Seems to be just about a love for Quebec so that's good
Glad you did! I don't think Quebec nationalism is any way related to nazism, but the fact the country is culturally divided between those from Quebec and those outside Quebec as it's Englsh-speaking vs French-speaking people - but this is very much simplified. I reckon it's the same thing as in Spain with Basque country or Ahvenanmaa (Åland islands) and Finland.
Of course Quebec nationalism is related to Nazism - any white people who don't hate themselves are Nazis. If you're confused, go talk to Jonathan Greenblatt, I'm sure he'll clear things up for you.
Firstly you have to differentiate nationalism and nazism… Quebec’s nationalism is largely left leaning… so very syndicaliste and socialist tendencies… so no it’s really not nazism…
"Quebec wants to separate from the rest of Canada" Sorry guys but this isn't quite true... Some still do but the majority do not. Although the last referendum was only decided by a very narrow margin (51% vs 49%), this was back in 1995. The Bloc Quebecois (Federal political party pushing for independence) has essentially disappeared since and the Parti Quebecois (provincial party pushing for independence) has not held a majority in 20 years as far as I know and aren't predicted to win the upcoming elections in October either. The culture within the province is obviously still very important and this is shown in many ways but not at a point where it seems as though the general population truly feels a need to separate. Cool interview otherwise and great band but this statement is misleading for international fans who may not be familiar with the situation here in Canada.
This is my take anyway, I'm not a Quebecois myself but have lived there in my childhood and still live within walking distance of the province. Open to hearing other people's views on the matter.
Awesome band. I love the traditionalist and nationalistic themes, but I don't support separatism, at least actual geopolitical separatism. You can be culturally different from different regions of your own country, but that's not a reason to try and make a different country. Big nations were formed for survival, and it helped different cultures to make it to this very day. This is no different now, separate and be conquered by another nation, whether militarily, culturally or economically, and watch your beloved culture die.
Interesting...they say their lyrics can be applied to any culture but what about the indigenous Canadians? Quebec (Canada, North America) is on stolen territory of Native Americans so white Quebec nationalism conflicts with that...
Dude thank you for stating the obvious lol. I mean if they do drop some bomb tracks about solidarity with native peoples that would be pretty legit, but yeah I agree with what you are saying. Freedom for quebecois is freedom for white settler colonialists, at least in my opinion.
@@elnidodelmuerto hummm, that is grossly misunderstanding Quebec’s history and culture. We were allied with the indigenous when the British arrived and placed them in reserves,,we were the first place in North America to grant them linguistic and cultural rights, we are the place in North America where their languages are still the most thriving… I am sorry but summing up Quebec’s history to that of just another white settler society is plain idiocy, and frankly i dont get why being white matters in whether or not we deserve our own country…
Hummm you know why it failed right? Scandale des commandites…. And you go anywhere outside of Montréal and the average quebecois is in favour of indépendance only the city (which is now in majority immigrants something like 40%) are really truly in majority against separation
