    Recently updated this update to my 2022 Model 3 and had a very similar experience to your nighttime test drive. Actually the weather was appalling with heavy showers and the adaptive matrix lights are a real improvement imo. Never got flashed once by oncoming vehicles. One of the most useful updates in a while.

    My 2020 Mazda 3 has this feature but it's far better than Tesla's version. It detects people, cyclists, street lights and more and changes the pattern.

      We seem to pay more than other markets for the LR/P, but then we also have a higher spec on our RWD models. Other markets don't get premium sound, so its strange there's such a gap between the RWD and LR in the UK.

      @@JonathanPorterfield I obviously considered buying used and was watching the auction prices back in October. Even though I've not driven one with the original suspension, I decided I only wanted the revised suspension, which then really limited my choice as these are still generally too new to be going through the auctions. But I was also seeing LR models making the same as RWD of the same age and mileage. So the RWD has the least depreciation by a huge margin. I was weighing up whether I buy new and have the free lifetime Supercharging transfer or buy used and said goodbye to free Supercharging. Obviously, I ended up buying new as this also meant 6 months longer warranty vs used. But it was a hard decision because buying used was cheaper and it would have been a LR.

      @sebulban 4 місяці тому

      Zero effect. The types of LEDs are meant to last 50 to 60000 hours with no issues. Switching them on/off or dimming has no effect on this.

    • @pereckerdal
      @pereckerdal 4 місяці тому

      LEDs are most power efficient when run on full power. For this reason it is common to dim LED lights (for example fixtures for indoor lighting) not by reducing their brightness but by rapidly turning them on and off, switching between 0 and max power, so often that the eye cannot see it. This switching can be done hundreds or even thousands of times per second. This does not impact the lifetime of a LED negatively in any way. Optical consumer audio cables (S/PDIF) sends data using an LED that switches millions of times per second.
      Turning LEDs on a few times per minute is surely not a problem.

    Now every time ongoing traffic will dim their beam, I'll think it's a murderer.

    What about cyclists? Do we get our retinas burned to a crisp? In many ways it's more dangerous for cyclists to be dazzled, because we can't see potentially lethal pot holes.

      I've not driven past any at night yet, but I will report back when I do. It works for motorbikes, so the camera and software is clearly identifying a single headlight, so it should do the same for bicycles. I guess it will depend on how bright their light is.

    If you want to dazzle other drivers, buy a Tesla model Y or 3.
