One technique for putting filler in gaps is to put some into a heavy pint size storage bag at its corner then twist it close and nip off the tip like they do frosting a cake. Another is to buy a cheap Marinade Injector fill it by pulling the plunger back and use it like a small caulking gun since the tip/needle is usually 1/16th or so in diameter. The syringe can be easily cleaned by repeatedly filling and squirting out hot water until it flows clear and taken apart so the plunger/cylinder/needle can dry out till next time. Slightly thinned Joint compound works best because actual caulking/pre made putty usually leaves a residue and is so thick that can't be cleaned it's why they come in there own pre filled version like a tube of toothpaste.

Fantastic job Jason, it has got me thinking. I love all types harbor and waterfront modeling, my layout has 4 places, maybe even one more that will have lots of water, pilings, rocks, weeds & small wood structures and of course water. I'm an On30 modeler and this, and all your videos give me really good ideas and they are very inspiring. Also I love the music you use, the blues and classic rock are what I listen too.

Hi Jason well totally impressed, to the point that I've pulled out my old n scale trains out ,downloaded a mining town and a wild western town ,total of 28 buildings, live in Australia but I've always had a thing for the Santa Fe line,Ive seen other layouts and as good as they are, they lack weathering! At first I thought you were using to many techniques but mate your end product is so realistic. Thanks so mush for sharing

Concrete driveways if they've been around any length of time always seem to have weeds or grass growing in the joint lines somewhere.

I knew I was going to like watching this. I'm not into building anything maritime, but I think you capture the fascination we have with waterways, ports and the haphazard way that we have built seaside environments to live among them.

I have to admit I'm really not a fan of 20s or 30s steam era layouts. And that usually seems to be the environment that craftsman kits are best suited for. I'm more interested in 60s and 70s diesel era. That way 40 and 50 footers fit in. Plus I'm looking at a C&NW branch line that originates at a passenger station on the lake shore branch north out of Chicago. The branch line which could be set any time from the 1900s to 1980s offers a good selection of industrial sites. Everything from copper casting, automotive plant, concrete cast products etc. What I'm wondering is if there are any craftsman kits that fit into a later era better

    • @JasonJensenTrains
      @JasonJensenTrains  5 років тому +1

Thank you so much for watching, I really appreciate it!!! I feel that craftsman kits from Fosscalemodels.com fits a very wide time period. I also think that changing signs on a structure can give it a newer look.

Loved the lessons and art you created. I want to build a simple kit to see if my long-dormant modeling still works. Thank you for your great videos.
If I made something I liked, and wanted to devote more time to model builds, could a guy make a living as a model maker? Is there a market for individual structures?

From the Office of Works, Jensenville-by-the-Sea,
    Dear Mr Jensen,
It has been brought to our attention that you are responsible for the care and maintenance of many of the buildings in the harbour district of our fine city (yes I know I am using the British spellings of some words, call me old fashioned!}. We are deeply, deeply concerned about the recent works you have been carrying out on some of the walkways and stairways connecting the various buildings behind the location of Pendleton Marine, adjacent to our fine harbour crossing.
While I don't wish to impugn your work the phrase 'a piece of scrap' 18:51 did not reassure us, indeed we find it highly offensive. 'Painting over the dirt' does not reassure us either, to the quality of the works you are currently undertaking. While there is some dubious entertainment value to be obtained from the guitar stylings played whilst you are undertaking the works forementioned we don't feel this makes up for the slipshod and irregular nature of the publicly accessible walkways you are responsible for.
We are appreciative that you haven't indulged in the controversial and unnecessary processes of weed elimination that so many city landlords do, but we remain dubious about some of the decisions you are making as to the management of your properties.
We require you to present, at the next meeting of our 'busy bodies and making folks lives miserable' committee, a plan to make your various walkways and stairways compliant with the latest city guidelines, accessible on alternate Tuesdays between the hours of 3 and 4pm, at City Hall. You should make yourself familiar with all 593 pages, and the subsequent 14 sub-committee amendments, before our next meeting at the end of December, regardless of any holiday arrangements you may have made.
I am sure you appreciate we highly regret having to make your life so miserable (but you say you appreciate the so called 'Blues') when you seem to think you are providing innocent pleasure to so many. But such is the lot of a City Councilor.
We are not ourselves interested in the reality of accessibility, but expect to be pursued, slowly (haw-haw), by those guys all too soon. Boy can those guys make a stink.
    Yours most sincerely,
Thomas A.Pain, Chairman, Planning and Thoroughfares Committee.
City motto "Bring back the barnacle".
