    By watching all Bjorn's Tesla videos you will literally know more about the car than a typical Tesla-owner! To be honest; you'd probably only need to watch all videos except the trip reports so lets say 50% of Bjorn's videos..

    Well, first of all you did an outstanding job with this video. I love the cuts from your previous videos and the photos as well. It was a little boring for me, because I watch all your videos, so I already knew most of your opinions. But I think it must be great for people who don't know Tesla so much. Fantastic job, I really appreciate it.
    BTW: I think Tesla should create a job position in which someone would watch your videos and take notes what to improve :)

    Yes, the video was long, but in depth and informative. I just watched the entire thing and am glad I did !!! I have been interested in Tesla for a couple year now, and am not even in an area that has chargers available in a decent distance, so not something realistic for me at this point in time... but soon I hope...Tesla should be paying you for your in depth and unbiased view of their product. I am looking to be a future customer because of watching your review.

    After watching this I can't stop thinking this car might make it to 1.000.000 km! What is really wearing in the car: wheel bearings, shocks, brake pads maybe? All these can be replaced and they do not sound as bad as engine overhaul because of nasty rear main leak. I will be anxiously waiting for the next 500.000 km you put on this car and hopefully document, especially since I am one of the many that reserved the model 3 in the first 24 hours haha! Thank you very much, excellent work you did with this video!

    I find it interesting that the Model S prototype from 2009 actually had adjustible headrests and much thicker (more comfy looking) seats. Especially with the rear headrests, I wonder why they aren't retractable. One awkward omission is also the seatbelt height adjustment or door pockets. Both of which Model X has, though.

    I considered buying one but waited to see whether the simplicity of the drive system actually resulted in reduced frequency of repairs, i.e. increased reliability. That is a major consideration for me. I don't want the annoyance of malfunctions. It seems that these cars do not yet provide the "bullet-proof" dependability that I want. Despite its incredible complexity, my Lexus LS has been superb. We will, however part company when the joy of driving a Tesla matches the joy of (nearly) perfect reliability.

    If I'd try to drive 1000km in a day with a proper sleep when I need it, I'd still fall asleep behind the wheel, 200% certain. Then if I'd have to do it in 2 days, I'd give still about 60-75% chance for me to fall asleep. So engine cars don't really have range advantage to me either.

    Thanx for the insight. I just watched the video on the new release of the next Generation. It looked very similar to yours and prices at $35,000. That's amazing. For that price would you consider buying the new version? Or, will you continue to get your moneys worth out of the one you have? I didn't get a good over view from the unveiling so, I would hope they have improved on some of your concerns. Have you shown Tesla this video, or do you think they have seen it? I would want to know how my costumers feel about my product. I personally don't mind long videos if they are informative. If I don't, I move on. You did a great job.

    210,000 kilometers in 2 years! ... my gosh, you have really put this car to the test! ... just curious on how many sets of tires have you gone through, and were there any problems with negative camber on the rear tires? .. the reason i'm asking is because Tesla refuses to acknowledge it is a design flaw when i complain that my rear inner rear tire walls are completely worn to the metal wires in less than 24,000 kilometers in normal highway driving while my front tires do no need to be replaced until 83,000 kilometers.

    Bjorn, I want to thank you for the time you take in giving your thoughts both good and bad. I have watched quite a lot of your videos recently.
    I've been considering making the transition from a thirsty monster of a car to an electrically powered one - It makes sense, especially as one of my jobs relates to the upkeep of wind-turbines.
    My "wifey" (also Chinese) soon saw the sense in cutting our fuel bill by an order of magnitude and is now quite excited about the concept of silently gliding around in a new car instead of our 13 year-old SUV and we have to travel into the city tomorrow, so we will probably stop off at our local Tesla dealer to have a look at one in the flesh.
    Towing is quite important for us and we do not intend to get rid of our SUV, if for no other reason than the lack of towing ability for many/most electric vehicles.
    Our current shortlist consists of the following vehicles:
    The Outlander PHEV - No range anxiety, will tow. Sadly, only about 30 miles of electric range and in fossil-mode, will drink as fast as our existing car.
    The BWM i3 Rex - No range anxiety but way too small.
    The Tesla Model S (as an electric vehicle, my ideal choice) with caveats... I'll mention below.
    The Mercedes B250e (my preferred choice although seriously let down by its woefully inadequate charging solutions).
    Caveats - Here is why I would NOT want to choose the i3 or the Tesla - for an expensive car, the interior is cheap and nasty. The i3 reminds me of a cheap Ford or Lada. For £100k of car, I certainly expect better from the Tesla - It is shockingly abysmal and this is why (as a car), I prefer the B250e.
    Additionally, as someone who has been a programmer since about 1981, I am sick of the buggy, unreliable garbage that has become the "standard" in today's marketplace. I'd have been fired if I'd ever produced anything so crap. I have far higher standards and the first time that the interface craps out on me on the road would probably be the moment that I would put my fist through the dash of the car and tell the showroom to come and take back their shoddy crap.
    I live in Scotland - We do not have quite as extensive a charging network as in Europe or even England, in fact, our primary network charges £6 for half an hour - which for a car which takes 3 hours to charge such as the B250e, it makes a journey to see family in England or friends further up North in Scotland somewhat expensive and unfeasible - the B250e would require THREE charges adding about 9 hours to a journey which would normally take me about five or six. The Tesla would take it in its stride (as would the i3).
    I carry a lot of equipment for my work and the i3 probably is not going to be large enough - the Tesla - No question ! It would eat all of my kit and ask for more. The facts of the matter are that if Mercedes had implemented a realistic charging solution, I would not be having this dilemma and would already have made my choice (possibly buying both the B250e as my regular commuting car and the Outlander PHEV for when we need to tow or go well beyond the range of the B250e).
    My regular commute is only 20 miles each way but 15 of those miles are on very twisty, steep, hilly, rough (and quite often icy in Winter) country roads. We are intending to install a charging point at my office so that I can keep the car topped up whilst at work, as well as one at home.
    You have definitely caused me to look a little more seriously at the Tesla as an option and won't completely rule it out until after test-driving all of the cars on my shortlist. Thanks for taking the time to document your experiences - it has been very helpful.

      Bjørn Nyland, Indeed... I only just discovered (from your Land-Rover towing video) that the X will tow... I added it to my shortlist (probably in place of the Model S)... It could be the ideal car - ticks all the boxes as far as practicality and range but still hideously expensive, sadly. Hopefully, I'll get to see one in the flesh in a few hours and I can decide for myself if they are as cheap and nasty looking/feeling in real life as they appear on video. I'll keep you posted.

      Bjørn Nyland BTW - Do Tesla still operate their referral programme? If so, and I decide to go with the Tesla, I'll give them your code (if you tell me what it is).

    • @beithairltd2381

      Bjørn Nyland, well. I think you were absolutely right. The X is absolutely the car. Ticks all the boxes and was surprisingly better built than would appear from many of the videos that I have seen. Maybe they have managed to iron out the wrinkles, or perhaps they've cherry-picked the best cars for demonstration/showroom models. Either way, it certainly isn't as cheap and nasty inside as I had come to think. Maybe we'll meet at a Supercharger one day. I shall continue to follow your videos with eager anticipation for the next.

    I will never buy a fossil car again. I still own my BMW, but never drive it because of battery issues, stick shift and gar smell. I love my Tesla Model S and am looking for a bigger battery to add another 100 miles. Secondly, I would pay for the Super Charger because I don't have the time to wait for it to charge up for a few hours. Buy one! Since when is Super Chargers free? Or, do you mean once you pay the extra to get the Super Charging capacity to begin with -- the of course, charging is free. Go buy one without hesitation.

    In Serbia electric car would be great. We have only 3 Tesla supercharges and the km from north city to south city is around 500km, which with the new Tesla Model 3 will be 1 stop for recharge. Awesome. I want one now! :D

    Just an FYI: Tesla Roadster has the same thermal throttling issues as the Model S, only more so since it lacks the liquid cooled rotor. Great car for its intended use, but do _not_ consider getting one for the track as Bjørn suggests.
    AFAIK there isn't really a mass-produced BEV that works well on the circuit. There are some great performing EVs built for competition, and a few (absurdly expensive) electric hypercars that could probably fit the bill, but for the time being you should just buy a "fossil car" for track days. I recommend the MX-5. :)

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  8 років тому

      +James Rowland Ok, I wasn't aware of that for the Roadster. It is a much lighter car though. So I guess it will perform well on a track.

    • @CluebotUK
      @CluebotUK 8 років тому

      Bjørn Nyland
      For a couple of minutes, yeah. :) The rotor gets hot faster and stays hot longer than in Model S.
      Tesla's induction motor based architecture allows a combination of high cruising efficiency and high peak power, making it the best choice for road cars. Low sustained power makes it a poor choice for racing though; all the racing EVs are using synchronous motors.

    • @PerBuer
      @PerBuer 8 років тому

      +James Rowland The motor in the Model S (as well as the Roadster and the X) is synchronous. Perhaps you're thinking of something else? DC motors maybe? They have quite a bit more torque and since there is no induction at least the rotor doesn't heat up. The downside is that you need a gearbox.
      I had no idea the rotor was liquid cooled. That is pretty neat.

    • @CluebotUK
      @CluebotUK 8 років тому

      Per Buer
      Nope. Tesla use induction motors, which are asynchronous by definition. There is no permanent field in the rotor to synchronise with.

      Self-irony is important, I think. I think it's impossible to live up to all our ideals (in this case: not being 'fossils'), so we can either deny, excuse, counter-argue, or accept our shortcomings. Accepting, along with self-irony, has added happiness and social benefits as well ;)

    Hi Bjorn. First of all many thnaks for your videos. The biggest concern about the Tesla's that I have is regarding the degradation of the Li-Ion batteries. I can see that you have done many km with the car already. Regarding this what is the battery degradation that you have experienced on them?. Or in other words, during the last two years how many km have you lost on your car regarding the range that was able to give you at the begining?
    Kind regards Gael.

    • @bjornnyland

    I haven't seen it asked anywhere, nor have I seen it answered directly, but would you still want to own a Tesla outside of warranty? That may be the scenario that we face when the first early Teslas start coming out of warranty, and what many second-hand buyers would rush to see.

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  8 років тому

      +MakotoTheKnight Most issues were discovered and fixed during warranty time. If there are other issues after that, then it has to be covered by the owner. Unless it's covered by 2 or 5 years of complaint like we have in Norway.

    @Bjørn Nyland Hello - great Video man !!Watch the whole 1.5 hours but yeah it was worth. So one question that where I think you might be the "perfect" person to answer it, is how is the battery running after so much Kilometers. You talked just shortly that does not give warranty for weaker battery with the time being. So my question is, how is your battery after more than 200K kilometers?Is it still as good at the beginning or is there a huge difference? Thats one of my biggest worries before buying a Tesla...Thanks for your answer - and thumbs up man your are doing great videos :)

    I would like to see Tesla make a trailer which is pulled by a
    differential takeoff on the automobile with a drive shaft and is
    connected to a small turbine engine/torque converter to increase range
    (and charging. Or a charging turbine engine/torque converter run on
    propane for apartment dwellers).

    8:12 - If most people don't take long trips, and that's probably the most of us, there is no need for a 85+ kW/h-battery pack. In that sense the Tesla Model S is simply too expensive, too much. Voltec is the far more sensible and practical solution.
