The whole education system in the West is geared towards self-actualisation, self-improvement and self-identification. There is virtually no emphasis on community, family, responsibility, altruism and sacrifice. Where charity work is encouraged it is for self-aggrandizement. The rot starts there. I do not think homeschooling is the answer as the children end up in an echo-chamber. Teenagers are naturally exploring notions of self. The church has work to do to encourage the young to look beyond these restricting boundaries and discover the freedom of our identity in Christ. Great guest! Great podcast! Thanks!
@@OratorVeritatis One of the big myths of modern society is the Nuclear Family. It puts unbearable strain on the parents. Education is a community thing. We desperately need to rediscover community and support each other. I work in education, I know the 'enemy' and I would gladly give my time to help support families in their spiritual warfare.
@@gillianc6514 Indeed, loss of our community values as a society has been detrimental. Though, I wouldn't call the nuclear family a myth nor a modern creation; it is God's intention, surely? I'm guessing you mean in the context of education.
@@OratorVeritatis Households in most societies up till the modern era were extended. Yes, the husband and wife hold a special and holy bond in terms of the care of children and in terms of developing the domestic church. But the household and the wider community were just as important. Mary and Joseph 'lost' Jesus on the way back from Jerusalem, assuming he was elsewhere in the caravan. Assumptions like that require extended relations and communal care to be normal. When Pius XII created the feast of the 'Holy Family' after WWII, it was a symptom of the modern way of seeing the family as the base unit and not the household; creating a nuclear unit that it would be impossible to ever live up to, creating a burden of idealism and inadequacy. Also our housing, work patterns and neighbourhoods are designed for these claustrophobic, isolated base units of society. Something seems wrong to me. I think this has some bearing on the growing number of failed marriages.
@@gillianc6514 Oh, I see, I get you now. I think it's part of the wider culture of total individualism that's developing, especially here in the West where living with extended family has become a taboo. Thank you for your enlightening information, my friend. God bless you!
You guys brought up something interesting about the psychology of these people who like to do things that are outrageous or taboo. It's a way for them to assert their wills. It's the psychological of 'forbidden fruit'. If you tell children they can't do something pleasurable, it makes that thing even more desirable. The drive for self-gratification to obtain the 'forbidden fruit' becomes stronger. It becomes a matter of satisfying their pride. You can see this with respect to Eve desiring the forbidden fruit, anticipating its pleasure, and additionally desiring to be like a god. Some adults never grow up, especially in Western culture where responsibilities in young people get delayed and adolescent behavior extends into their 20s. If you tell hedonistic young adults they shouldn't be engaging in this or that behavior, whether sex or drugs or partying or tattooing or dressing provocatively, they will additionally desire to defy you besides desiring to do those things. Their prideful self-expressions will not be denied. They desire to win the power struggle with authority. It gives a boost to their pride. It's very psychologically immature. Look at Miley Cyrus. She was outrageously defiant as a young adult. She is starting to regret it as she ages. But she blames it on her youth, not on her pride. Her pride won't let her acknowledge the truth about herself. Setting aside your pride and seeing yourself naked as you are is exposing for some, but a humbling spiritual virtue for others. The former hide from God like Adam and Eve did. The latter come closer to God who can cover their nakedness with His Lamb. Jesus is the Lamb of God sacrificed to clothe Adam and Eve and us their immature children.

You guys brought up the example of a voodoo curse harming a man because he believed in voodoo. If it can't hurt you if you don't believe in it, then even if you hate the occult, if you believe it has more power than it really has, then aren't you giving it more credibility and potential influence in you? Wouldn't it be better to show it very little regard instead of being fascinated with it? Even negative fascination with it empowers it. Some people become positively fascinated with the occult and embrace it. It has much influence on them. Others hate it but are still fascinated with it. It still has its influence on them because even negative fascination with something is pleasurable. It still messes with their minds. They are still flirting with it.

You make some excellent points, my brother in Christ. Frankly, I fear that if God grants me children, I may not know how to educate them.
