Very much in support and agreement of this. Time and time again people keep saying me and you are the only reviewers they trust. 🙌

Hard to argue with what he says. Sounds like good advice.

Another pet peeve - Vanishing Inc constantly puts up brand new ads, (complete with demo videos) but then states "This item is currently out of stock"

Yup, anything they know won't sell when people see/hear what it really is they stick out as a pre-order as they know it's the only way they can make coin on it.

This seems to be a growing business model, hype and presell the product while avoiding the cost of making and road-testing/refining it first. There are certain magicians/companies who seem to repeat this pattern over and over and over ..

Yep, always best to wait for the reviews.....perhaps "unbiasedmagicreviews"? :)

Completely agree. Pre-orders in magic = almost guaranteed disappointment. And waste of money.

I agree but I will occasionally preorder a book I know I’ll like or a re-release of something I already know I’ll use (again).

Years ago I bought pre-sale books from Miracle Factory as Todd’s books are high quality and well researched and written. In the case of books pre-sales help defray upfront costs. With tricks delayed gratification is the best option for me as I typically find the hype is just hype.

Presale is very simply a way to make money off of subpar releases. They know once the reviews (honest reviews) come in, the bubble is burst for the effect so best to get people to buy at a small discount prior to release and lock them in. Plus, these people will be more likely to give a positive review when asked since they already committed their money to it. You're correct to avoid this, with perhaps the exception to limited production effects (like dark/graveside magic or custom made effects from a reputable creator). I feel that there are far too many hucksters in our hobby controlling messaging and conversation.

Interesting topic. I just pre-ordered a new book test called Fully Booked by Vinny Sago because I liked the idea of over 800+ playing cards to select instead of words on a page, and the discount offered for this low priced item here in the UK. He claims he uses a new method which is interesting and I have purchased items from his company before so I know about the quality of his products.

I think it depends on the offer. I've pre-ordered magic books as a sign of support even if there is no discount (for example Forte's Gambling Sleight of Hand). Also I've taken advantage of some kickstarters which have more to do with the quality of the props (for example TCC cups & balls). However, I think more to your point... I am reluctant to pre-order a stand-alone trick. I agree that waiting for a review in most cases is a good idea.

100 % agreed, but basically the consumer has control over it. It is his responsibility to buy or not to buy as a Pre-Order. I am much more upset with the misleading „Reviews“ where the Negatives of a product are basically Non-existent and even the biggest crap is being hyped.

When anyone says “there’s only one reason…” I can never trust it. There’s plenty of reasons companies do pre orders of their products. It helps gauge the interest in the product so they can manufacture the items they need for the second run without ordering too many or too less. Supply chains are crazy slow these days so you need to be a step ahead in terms of ordering. Obviously some is to garner excitement and sell products. There’s probably a myriad more reasons why companies do this. When someone says “there’s only one reason…” that person is biased towards their own opinion and shut out any other thoughts.

What you can trust is that magicians are at a massive disadvantage preordering products. Your reasons make no sense when we are talking about digital download preorders.

    • @rockgiant
      @rockgiant 6 місяців тому

@@UnbiasedMagicReviews I agree with digital downloads. My point is when somebody says there’s only one reason when clearly there is a lot of contributing factors, I loose faith on that person’s impartiality or their ability to see a whole situation.

Magic dealers are like movie companies that don't screen films for critics (or screen them just before release.) This is almost always a sign that the movie is a stinker, and they want to grab as much cash as they can before the bad reviews hit. Same with dealers. Case in point: Dex. Years of hype, then the pre-orders, lots of people going nuts and buying it, and then we see the product--and it's a piece of garbage.

Movie companies don’t sell 3 year old movies at the same price (but cheaper). Magic companies sell 20 year old effects at double the price.

We need to take a look at all the magic we own. 98 percent was a total waist of money. 💰
Most of us have more magic than we will perform in a Lifetime .
I have saved so much money because if I wait.
I see it was either junk or I would never have used it and tossed it in the junk drawer!!
      Best Wishes
