I can thoroughly relate to this video. I just sold my 12.9 iPad Pro to get this. Most people may think I’m crazy, but honestly, as soon as I got my MacBook Air my iPad Pro became unnecessary. I plan on using it for media consumption, reading, gaming, notes, and as a digital sketchbook. I think that this device will work perfectly for those things! You gotta use what works best for you…
For sure. I had a 2018 Pro and as soon as I got my MacBook Air I used my iPad as a tablet only and I suddenly find it clumsy. Been thinking hard about the mini
@@markbubb9902 yeah, I would at least downgrade to an iPad Air. Because the larger iPad Pros don’t really offer anything more than a MacBook Air, it quickly makes them obsolete once you have one. Even when it comes to drawing and art, I readily choose my Wacom tablet and my MacBook Air over my iPad Pro. The downgrade was totally worth it for me.
Good to hear i am not alone, since i got the macbook air i stopped using the ipad pro or if i do carrying both of them is too much, so i got the mini and thinking of selling the pro . Are you still happy with your decision or do you miss the pro ?
UPDATE: After spending some time with the mini (which I loved!!), I ended up bumping back up to the 11” Pro. I wanted the Air but got a better deal on the Pro at the time. I just couldn’t get around that with the mini and it’s honestly the only reason that I switched. I still believe for most people the Mini is the best iPad.

As a Trainer & Educator in Productivity, Organization & Workflow - AND - an owner of the iPad mini since the 1st Generation back in 2014 - I totally agree that it is indeed a VERY specific productivity tool. It immediately replaced my 4th Generation iPad as my "go to" device to take to meetings, capture notes, and consume all sorts of content - due to it always being the lightest iPad ever. It's easier to carry in & out of meetings, less conspicuous, easily paired with the Apple Wireless Keyboard, better on planes, trains, etc and overall will stay in my hand longer than any other device - so the iPad mini is my workhorse of all my Apple gear
iPad mini FTW. I love the mini because it gets full iPadOS in a small form factor. I can do more on iPadOS than iOS especially within the multitasking. I use my iPad as a digital media journal entertainment device. It’s the first thing I pick up and the last thing I put down daily. It’s just perfect when traveling and as a companion device to my laptop and phone. It’s my favorite product Apple sells.

ipad mini 6 is the most versatile model in the entire lineup, for ease of doing things on the move you should go for this mini with the pencil. Other models are hybrid laptops.
As an enterprise consultant, I already have big screens and laptops and stuff. What I need is a tactical device to hold important notes, access Messages and read emails. The Mini is perfect for that. It's small and when I step out, the Mini goes with me. So I'm always connected as it has the cellular option.
Like you I have both the iPad Pro and the new mini. (Also a MBP 14”). When I am going somewhere and going to spend considerable time I take the iPad Pro. If I am bouncing around lots of places I take the mini. Since I am not someone who likes staring at the smaller screen of an iPhone (I am 60 and my eyes remind me every day), the iPad mini is a really good option. The only gripe I have with the new iPad mini is the lack of FaceID. Once you have had a device with FaceID you really do not want to mess around with the fingerprint reader.
My 2020 iPad Pro stays in the magic keyboard as a laptop substitute. I’ve done a lot of mobile content creation on the mini 5, and now the 6. It’s great for drawing and video editing. And I will use them all as a graphics tablet for the MacBook Pro (which I really only use for video and animation).
I’m an illustrator and use Procreate most of the time. I mainly draw on my iPad Pro but also do a heap of drawing on the iPad Mini. It’s also a fantastic device for content consumption and a great companion for the iPhone Mini.👍 I love your videos.
Long story short: I have a pro cellular and a wifi mini I just got 64 gb. Do you find I’m having the two that you still get consistent use from both devices?
My mini 6 arrives tomorrow and I bought it for a couple specific uses. I'm a gigging musician and it's handy to have a digital device on stage for the setlist, pulling up lyrics if we get song requests and also something to play music on our PA between sets. I've been using an ancient 4th gen iPad for the music but it's extremely slow and it's also too big and weird to try and mount to my mic stand. I've been using my phone but the screen is a tad too small for that so the mini will hopefully work well. Second is for drone flight. I know it doesn't have the brightest display in the world but most of my flying is around sunset/sunrise so direct sunlight is not really an issue and, again, while a phone screen is fine, a bigger screen is better but a full size ipad is too big and also too heavy to be comfortable (and I'm not sure if mounts for a full size ipad even exist). Other than that, a lighter bed time media device that's not as heavy to hold up as the old 4th gen will be a welcome change. I think at the $400 price tag they're going for now, all the shortcomings are forgiven. Yeah promotion would be nice but for what I'm primarily intending to use it for, I can overlook it because it's just added cost that I think the majority of buyers for this device would still sacrifice to keep that lower price. Even if you are intending to get a smaller device like this, once you get close enough to the price of the larger ones, the larger form factor seems to be the first thing to get pushed aside to get "a little bit more" better device.
Atomic Habits is a great example of a book that can (and should) be read the way Blinkist does things. There are some genuinely good points in it but the amount of padding James Clear has used is just ridiculous. I read the actual book and found myself skipping a lot of the real life examples because I felt that the logic behind the method was clear and concise enough without them.
I'm amazed and jealous of those like yourself that don't see the jelly scroll. It truly is the only reason I don't own this device and I would love to have one. It's the perfect size to replace using a Plus sized iPhone for web surfing etc but also screams to be held in portrait for this and the jelly scroll is so obvious to me it's distracting.
I bet I would notice it when I was younger, but being over 30 my eyes aren't as good as they use to be. But I have noticed lately if I scroll super fast I see the jelly bits. Hopefully it's not getting worse.
Thank you for being so normal and giving me the real deal on your videos. I have been considering the the mini but haven’t bit the bullet. I have the iPad Pro 11” so it is great in the kitchen, coach, bed, etc… I don’t have the 12 “and thought about but getting the 14” MacBook Pro so I feel like that will be portable enough. I might hold off until the mini has promotion. :) Have a great day my friend!
I have been doing the same thing you were doing, Chris-trying to make the mini like my iPad pros. Kept putting it down and going back to the 11”. I need to make the mini a dedicated consumption device, it is just too small (for me) to use for productivity. As always, thanks Chris!
I find that having an air was perfect to actually replicate pages of books and use as an actual tablet. I’m not sure how I would use a device smaller than a piece of paper as far as reading. Although I imagine it would be perfect for certain tasks that fall between phone and laptop usage.
Loved this video! I finally decided to order a mini after owning and returning both the Air & Pro. I tried too hard to make those devices something they're not for me (I prefer my MacBook Pro over the iPad always). However, watching and consuming content, planning things, etc. were not feasible on my phone, so I think the mini will be a perfect addition to my ecosystem.
I plan to use mine for more gaming and note taking for school so I don’t have to take my iPad Air 4 around with me, I know the Air is smaller compared to pros but it’s still big for what I want when I’m at my job
Unfortunately, I don't use the iPad mini because there is no area of application for it besides the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPhone Pro. It's a shame, because I loved my old iPad mini.
I didn’t end up upgrading my mini 5 because of the 60Hz screen - no real upgrade there - but I am holding out for the next generation, even a mini pro. But, always a fan of the mini as my main daily driver. Always in portrait mode, and it is my deep thinking device while I’m on the couch or lying in bed as I research, read and make notes - life of a mature student - before sitting at the Mac Mini to do any serious writing. Guilty of watching way too much you-tube on it😂, and I do use mine to read ebooks, so there’s that. I find the jelly effect, which is carried over from the mini 5 (I only notice it now because everyone is talking about it) is only noticeable when I have app-creep. Apps take up memory, and I delete non-essential apps - the ones I’m not actually using - to speed up my iPad mini and it runs smoother. I Also cut back on downloaded content for only when I need it. Cheers, enjoyed your video😀
The iPad Mini is about as “pro” as it is going to get at the moment. Apple is going to continue making the iPad Pro in two different sizes, and I doubt that will change anytime.
I have an ipad pro and an ipad mini, the mini is the one I use the most, it's the perfect size imo... yes the 60hz could be 120hz and going from the pro to the mini you notice it obviously but I don't care and my son probably loves the pro now so lol...
For productivity, I will be using the mini at my desk with an external display, keyboard and a trackpad/mouse (replacing my ipad pro). For work I prefer a desk and I need it for better posture. The pro is too heavy away from the desk anyway.
Chris, since the mini has been out for about a year now and rewatching this 3mo review, how do you feel about the mini now. Are you still using it? Have you tried the latest iPad OS beta on it and does it enhance it in anyway? Thanks!
For anyone watching this I bought all three size iPads so you don't have to lol! After months of testing here are my results...... The iPad 12.9 with Magic Keyboard is a monster of a device but if you already have a MacBook why would you try and replace something that's better at doing majority of task? The 11 inch is better for portability but still kind of large to carry around, as many did I didn't even consider getting an iPad mini. I can say hands down the iPad mini is better for actual iPad uses such as content consumption, emails, games ect. if you are going to do work do it on the your MacBook not iPad because at the end of the day the iPad is just a supplement device NOT a device to replace your MacBook other wise they would have put Mac OS on it. Here is my current setup. MacBook m1 air - iPhone mini - iPad mini and this has been by far the best setup for work, play and portability. I blame apple for marketing this device as a laptop replacement because iPads are not even close to replacing my computer it would just slow me down when working.
Great video! But what about the keyboard next to ipad mini Pic? And what about a video about your stickers and another one only about all your keyboards? Have a good day there.
I’ve had the mini 6 for 24 hrs its not bright enough and that screen lag for scrolling and resolution in terrible, with accessories would have better buying an optic😊
Hey, I am looking to buy tablet which I can use to write. How is your experience of keyboard of ipad mini. Can you please share. It will make my decision easy.
“ProMotion” is Apple’s marketing term for their version of adaptive refresh rate screens, and like the name suggests it is only found on their “Pro” branded products. As for your second question, unless if you really need your iPad for something crazy the current base iPad is about one of the best deals in tech that you can get, though I would recommend maxing out the storage if you can.
Is your battery holds the charge for more than a day ? Mine cellular model, even idling goes to 5% from 100% in the morning to 5% at 9pm … without doing a lot of things with it.
mmm when my ipad 11 got cracked I decided I already had screens the size of 12.9 and up and did not want to buy the 11 twice so I went down this mini road. mmmm the mini has become an overpriced ebook/mini game device. too small for my notes and I used the ipad 11 inch way more than my mini. I will likely keep my mini because I do like it as my ebook reader but I think folks would be suprised how often they do not use this form factor. I could be wrong but spend more time looking at the 12,9 inch again thinking about bein glutinous
Thank you Christopher - I would be curious to know that now your are using an 11” IPAD will you continue to use the Mini as this video mentions (FANTASTIC USE SCENARIO) I have an 11” Pro but thought it was little too big for media consumption- (holding in on the couch) I then got the new Mini - and honestly I just wish there was like a 9” model basically between the 11 and the Mini - ahh first world problems. Thank you truly appreciate your Videos and your opinions,
Some of the reviews for this don't make sense. This ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA works as well as any power strip I've used. Plug in what you need, be sensible about it & keep it movin' The construction is plastic but it's a sturdy piece. It has a single toggle switch & the swivel jacks are useful as well. Plugged in next to Tripp Lite Isobar takes some of these reviews with a pinch of sumthin' - does what it says & functions properly.Had for about a month. Perfect no complaints will update if anything changes.
Sorry to say this. Ipad mini is not worth the money for serious works. Only good for playing games inside home and browsing. I wish apple provides a pro ipad mini device in future even if they charge extra money. BELOW DRAWBACKS : 1) For On field works during sunny days , the brightness is not enough to see the screen properly. Also gets heated quickly when used for drone shoots for just 30 mins time spent. 2) No faceid support when we regularly work outside. The touch id is very irritating as we already used to faceid with recent tech. 3) Should provide a exclusive keyboard support for ipad mini for people who can type when needed , even though its a small tablet.
You are correct. Both the iPad Air 4 and iPad Mini resemble the very first iPad. I actually prefer the old design. Even though it's the same thickness it looks thinner and sleeker.
Hey, bezels have saved my screen more times than I would like to admit. Everyone wants to get rid of the bezels, but a sheet of 1-3000$ glass is no friend of mobility. I even prefer cases that extend to create an artificial rubber bezel (otter box) and after years and years I have never lost a screen. Once they are bulletproof I’ll take a bezel free device.
I would say this. Looks who’s talking. Considering Apple only just implemented 120hz, and you are complaining that it is unusable for a device that does not have that feature aka the iPad mini 6 simply because some of your other apple device has it. How hypocrite is that given the fact that 120hz existed on other non apple device for many years already. In fact at this point it already evolve over 120 going to 144 and beyond on certain devices. Then for the past few years when other people are already using 90 and 120hz while you still stuck on the crappy 60hz, you never ever talk about it being unusable and still keep supporting it like an idiot. This is what Apple idiots are
I got the iPad mini after seeing a lot of the videos here and elsewhere, but is too small to be used to watch videos! Is not good at all at this… if held in hand is too close to watch real movies, if put on a stand is too far away to see details of actors expressions etc, details you see on a normal tv screen… so is not good at that period… is good chatting with people and watch UA-cam and reply to emails, take a snapshot of what ever you see through your day you want to remember the brand of or save for later in your journaling process… or pay bills and banking with or purchasing stuff online… but for anything productivity wise I prefer to sit down with a little larger journal and write by hand or sit down with a MacBook or iMac for journaling or schedule my days… Is like a larger iphone for quick simple tasks… the best thing with it is watching UA-cam on the top of the screen and the comments down below here on the bottom of the screen in a better way than an iPhone can do it… so is a consumer device and absolutely not a productivity device. It got so many errors when it comes to the software that I will most likely give it back… too many websites and apps cannot function well with the iPad mini. Like shipping service apps like Budbee , airmee, Dhl… the buttons on the bottom where you confirm your changes to a delivery or want to continue in an app cannot be viewed at all and if you try to scroll down to the bottom of the app window the stupid bounce function that Jobs was so proud of where you come to an end of the page it bounces back a little makes it impossible to scroll down to the actual bottom at all where the continue or confirm button is situated in most apps… even in my Codecademy go app for programming this issue is evident… and on top of this, just open instagram and you can see it does not fit the screen at all! Is smaller than the screen in portrait mode and in landscape mode is a joke! Smaller than an iPhone instagram for chatting… is horribly made and nothing is rightly done… and the sound of the keys can suddenly get turned on super high in volume for two seconds and then disappear on their own.. really shows a lot of bugs on top of the issues mentioned above… and there are more issues… all my notes from my iPhone and iMac could not be downloaded from the security copy and neither from iCloud… had to change my iCloud account name and reset the iPad mini 6 times together with an Apple senior advisor for a whole week to resolve this issue and get the notes and all my contacts into the iPad mini… and it was Not the first time the senior advisor seen these issues. So not me having a bad Apple here 😂 is The apple that got fundamental issues with iPad mini and the iPad iOS … just telling everyone what is like… I think zi should have chosen the iPad Pro 12.. another issue is that none of my c usb hubs from my MacBook works on the iPad mini! All satechi and really great and work with the MacBook and iMac and iPad Pro thunderbolt usb c! But not with the simple usb c in the iPad mini! So that is just a horror story itself… how am I now gonna connect both a charger cable and a mechanic usb c or a keyboard ? I had to use a usb c adapter from my usb a keyboard straight into the iPad mini but if I tried it wi5 the satechi hub that got several usb a connections and usb c it did not work! So stupid….

There are some genuinely good points in it but the amount of padding James Clear has used is just ridiculous. I read the actual book and found myself skipping a lot of the real life examples because I felt that the logic behind the method was clear and concise enough without them.
He had a lot of trouble writing the book
This is how I feel about most self help books, I can’t finish them. I use headway instead of blinkist and have finished 234 books in 2 years
I'm amazed and jealous of those like yourself that don't see the jelly scroll.
Thx for review, after long decisions, I traded my pro 11” to mini6 and really love it.
Honestly if Apple released an IPad Pro Mini, it would be an instant buy for me.
Seven weeks after I ordered mine, it is supposed to arrive tomorrow! Can't wait!
Loved this video! I finally decided to order a mini after owning and returning both the Air & Pro. I tried too hard to make those devices something they're not for me (I prefer my MacBook Pro over the iPad always). However, watching and consuming content, planning things, etc. were not feasible on my phone, so I think the mini will be a perfect addition to my ecosystem.
great decision..mini + macbook is a great combo..it feels useless owning a pro but doing most of the works on mac..
I plan to use mine for more gaming and note taking for school so I don’t have to take my iPad Air 4 around with me, I know the Air is smaller compared to pros but it’s still big for what I want when I’m at my job
What I wanna know is where he got the Magic Keyboard stickers in the thumbnail from 😂
Same here, the very reason I clicked ! That was a BAIT and we’re fishes 😭😭😭😭
They actually aren't stickers. It's printed on the keyboard. It's from Editor Keys.

I find your reviews genuine and honest.
Thank you for your time and energy.
Unfortunately, I don't use the iPad mini because there is no area of application for it besides the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPhone Pro. It's a shame, because I loved my old iPad mini.
DUDE WHERR DO U GET THOSE STICKERS FROMMMMMMMM 😭😭😭😭😭🤩🤩🤩🤩
@@spencercarruth9706 yeah unless mini is getting more sales than the pros and people want the 120hz and mini led on the mini... it'd be possible
I've never seen a review with so many veiled ads for apps and no review
There is the option of adjusting the text size through the accessibility feature.
Can you share the wallpaper you use on your iPads? Thank you!
Chris, since the mini has been out for about a year now and rewatching this 3mo review, how do you feel about the mini now. Are you still using it? Have you tried the latest iPad OS beta on it and does it enhance it in anyway? Thanks!
Thank trying to revamp my resume any app you can recommend
What kind of screen protector do you use, it looks so delicate.
I sold my pro 11" because I stopped using it since I bought the mini, we all want different things :)
Why Airtable over Notion?
Can you do a new update on the mini
Can you show me link to get your candle on your desk
Many thanks this is one of the most useful reviews because you are not trying to get users to buy the latest ipad or iPad mini
Can you show me link to buy that candle you got on your desk
What is the keyboard on the video thumbnail?
Great video! But what about the keyboard next to ipad mini Pic? And what about a video about your stickers and another one only about all your keyboards? Have a good day there.
What pencil do you use?
What’s is the name of the multicolored keyboard in the photo?
OMG THAT BOOK IS SOOO GOOD!!!
Nice vid as always and ahhhh I’m still recovering from that F1 finale. 😒
Agree about iPad Mini Pro!!
love the review. btw where did you get that star wars hoodie? it looks sick since im a star wars fan!!
Me watching the blinkist ad and looking to the right side where atomic habits lays like idk 3 months :D
A fellow overcast fan, good to see
Can you give us link to your wallpapers?
1:31 That looks like a really cool shortcut! Is there a link to it?
I returned mine. I just didn’t use it enough.
At first, the title of this video caused me to assume that it was about the iPad Mini 3!
Yeah…me too!
Hey Chris. What font are you using in Drafts?
Question about Paperlike. Anyone tried playing games with it on? Does it work ok?
what is promotion? would you choose iPad 8 inch or iPad 10.2 (9) or pro for productivity like note-taking, reading, email, youtube?
“ProMotion” is Apple’s marketing term for their version of adaptive refresh rate screens, and like the name suggests it is only found on their “Pro” branded products.
As for your second question, unless if you really need your iPad for something crazy the current base iPad is about one of the best deals in tech that you can get, though I would recommend maxing out the storage if you can.
Once you go pro motion, there's no going back.
Is your battery holds the charge for more than a day ? Mine cellular model, even idling goes to 5% from 100% in the morning to 5% at 9pm … without doing a lot of things with it.
I have a cellular model as well and noticed this before updating it to 15.2. Since it was released, the battery performance is much better.
except for the note taking and drawing, this device is just a 'big' hype. buy a paper notepad and an a7 lite.
I thought this is iPad mini 6??
mmm when my ipad 11 got cracked I decided I already had screens the size of 12.9 and up and did not want to buy the 11 twice so I went down this mini road. mmmm the mini has become an overpriced ebook/mini game device. too small for my notes and I used the ipad 11 inch way more than my mini.
Thank you truly appreciate your Videos and your opinions,
bro pls change the mic on the bookshelf hehe.. it’s distracting ✌️
I will buy a ipad mini for work related stuff and because i got a gigallion books to read
Blinkist is probably good for anyone with ADHD.
Por que no hay traductor ;(
Which ipad mini do you have that your talking about ?❓❓❓❓
Cool 😎
Nice
Thanks for sharing. I passed on the IPad mini. Blessings on your day!
Jelly scrolling controversy is just for page views like most controversy
meanwhile me watching this from ipad mini 2
LOVE ATOMIC HABITS!
Am I the only one who read this as “my iPad mini 3…months later”
who else thought ipad mini 3
What I see: iPad mini3, months later
I watched but no caption, pls add in captions or subtitles. Im watching at 6am... The rest of the family sleeping
Sorry to say this. Ipad mini is not worth the money for serious works. Only good for playing games inside home and browsing. I wish apple provides a pro ipad mini device in future even if they charge extra money.
BELOW DRAWBACKS :
1) For On field works during sunny days , the brightness is not enough to see the screen properly.
That's just sad....
i thought this was iPad Mini 3 wkwk
I cannot help, but the iPad mini looks so outdated to me. Will wait till the bezels are muuuuuch thinner...
really?
it’s the same on ipad air 4 but with smaller screen.
You need more sleep my man!
This is what Apple idiots are
Did is say unusable? No. I would like it cause I see the benefit of it in other devices.
You talk too much to fill time, at least dont make it obvious
I got the iPad mini after seeing a lot of the videos here and elsewhere, but is too small to be used to watch videos! Is not good at all at this… if held in hand is too close to watch real movies, if put on a stand is too far away to see details of actors expressions etc, details you see on a normal tv screen… so is not good at that period… is good chatting with people and watch UA-cam and reply to emails, take a snapshot of what ever you see through your day you want to remember the brand of or save for later in your journaling process… or pay bills and banking with or purchasing stuff online… but for anything productivity wise I prefer to sit down with a little larger journal and write by hand or sit down with a MacBook or iMac for journaling or schedule my days…
Is like a larger iphone for quick simple tasks… the best thing with it is watching UA-cam on the top of the screen and the comments down below here on the bottom of the screen in a better way than an iPhone can do it… so is a consumer device and absolutely not a productivity device.
So stupid….
