Nigerian youth service (NYSC) do military drills and community service, but they do not join the army. It is done after a university degree. And they go on to get jobs after that. It's like an exercise boot camp with voluntary work on the side. They get paid peanuts as monthly allowance. It should not be confused with the British national service. The devious plan Rishi Sunak has in mind for the youth is completely different from the responsible and enjoyable youth service run in Nigeria.
I can't imagine any soldier in a combat situation would want their life to potentially depend on the person next to them being someone who didn't want to be there.
