The british monarchy and monarchies anywhere cannot survive unless they stop hoarding wealth and robbing citizens of theirs, and put the needs of the people above theirs. The british monarchy is especially guilty of this greed. They are one of the wealthiest family in the world, but continue to be supported by the people. Why? What value does the british monarchy add to the lives of the uk citizen that entitles them to continue to be financially supported by the people? They do nothing for commonwealth countries, but use those countries as their bank. And why do people put up with it? I hope uk monarchy does not survive. Its a proven leach.

Is it a clever plot to distract us - to stop the search for those powers that are responsible for the destruction of our once-shining world : the envy of so many. The Royal Family does not rule us. We can ignore it , or make of it what we want. It’s the Press that needs them. I don’t waste my time talking or thinking about them. I don’t need to And the cost isn’t prohibitive. It’s the truly powerful people who are robbing us and bleeding us to death, and they are still getting away with it. It isnt just a unified NHS record that we dont have. Nothing is linked up in the UK. Local government. Utilities. Policing. Taxation. Welfare. Banking.
Every government department and business has to reinvent the wheel and come up with a website, a password for you to forget, and a storage system for their data.
You dont have 1 identity. You have hundreds to manage.
Think about moving house. Everytime you move you have to update a lot of organisations. They all have different systems and processes. Change of address fraud is a massive issue, and by having so many systems for it, we create multiple vectors for attack.
We could have one single unified ID that attaches our personal details to every account. A single place with high levels of security where you change your address and it cascades out across all your accounts.
But that terrifies a lot of people. They like that they can drop a company and run. They like the idea they can become unfindable. They dont want the government associating them with the person of the same name and dob in the next town over who just skipped town.
There are also a lot of religious people who object. ID cards were "the mark of the beast" to some.
All told there are a lot of people working hard to prevent any kind of modern top down unified system. The chaos suits them.

    • @MaatBlack-t7c
      @MaatBlack-t7c 28 днів тому

@MadnessQuotient I agree with everything you wrote. You're right about none of the departments being linked. Their left hand doesn't know what the right one is doing and one needs way too many passwords and codes to access the most simple of things. I agree that it terrifies people too. However, for me, the worry is more about the overall security and safety of a unified system. When, not if, hackers get through that system we're all at risk, all at once. The chaos, albeit annoying, can also be a shield from bad actors.

It has no place in hospitals, healthcare, housing, energy, transport, food delivery, water management or military sectors. Any decision in Canada to abolish the monarchy would require a) a unanimous vote in the House of Commons and the Canadian Senate (not going to happen), unanimous votes in _all ten_ provincial legislatures (again, not gonna happen) and would also open the opportunity for certain provinces (Quebec and, more recently, Alberta) to make demands of the other provinces and the feds to change the constitution (including the Charter of Rights and Freedoms) in other ways. Theoretically, the UK would have an easier time getting rid of the monarchy than Canada would.

However, it seems enough people on the Internet had the bee in their bonnet, to get rid of the monarchy when the Queen passed away, that they had to be told, slowly and with small words, what would be required to bring about that level of change and the expense that would be incurred in the process. Lidia Thorpe is a bit of an embarrassment in many ways, but I support her. What is maybe more embarrassing is a country that had a very, very close referendum on becoming a republic just 25 years ago, apparently has only one elected member willing to say a single mean thing to the King -- knowing that many people in the Labor party in Australia are republicans, but are more interested in power and money so will throw their morals and beliefs aside is an overwhelming feeling in this country. And Thorpe is absolutely getting a lashing from our highly centralised media, the same highly centralised media that through extraordinary amounts of partisan propaganda barely scraped a NO on the referendum.

Greek people drink and smoke way more, yet live longer.
Most of these things are way more complicated than any of these studies will ever give credit to, you cannot point out a single factor, like smoking or drinking, because any time you try there's ample counter-examples to prove you wrong.
When it comes to Chinese people living longer, there's actually a really interesting theory to that.
Chinese is a language that doesn't have the same tense system as English, like, we would say "I went to the store" (past) "I'm going to the store" (present) or "I will go to the store" (future) In Chinese it's just "I go store" or "I go to store" (a common mistake Mandarin speakers make when learning English) the tense is implied through context, it doesn't matter whether you went already, you're going now, or you will go later, you say all 3 the same way.
An interesting consequence of this, is that people who are raised speaking Chinese, are better at long term planning when it comes to stuff like health and money, because "I will do this fun thing now and face negative consequences later" becomes "I do fun thing, bad thing happens" - because the concept of tense doesn't exist, things that we waive away as far off consequences "Who cares if i get cancer in 30 years" seem way more important, getting cancer is getting cancer whether you do it in the past future or present.
Anyway, all that blabber to say, the language we speak influences our thinking, which influences our behavior, and a lot of "genetic" quirks we attribute to specific groups of people are actually a language thing instead.

I think there are two different things happening here, there is the republican movement in Australia and the indigenous Australians who want a treaty, they are not the same thing, and I have watched LBC cover this, without realising this, I think your journalists need to do more research as an indigenous treaty is not a republic, they have two different aims. The woman who yelled the stuff out, is asking for a treaty for the indigenous people of Australia, so it seems the latter is being used by some of the UK press to focus on a republic.
The Republican movement of Australia is not solely focused on a treaty for the indigenous people and not all those focused on an indigenous treaty are focused on a republic.

There's no doubt that the 2 movements, whilst arguably sharing anti monarchy sentiment, are different, have different aims and different levels of urgency. Indigenous "leaders" and leftie politicians are active on the treaty issue whereas hardly anyone raises the republic issue. My take on it is that it's the if-it-aint-broke-don't-fix-it syndrome operating in the republic debate. Who cares ?

Paradoxically progressive Canada may be the last bastion of unyielding monarchism within the Commonwealth. Both the Liberals and Tories are staunchly pro-monarchy. And, whilst nominally open to persuasion, even the leftist New Democrats are loathed to actually discuss the issue. Perhaps having a front row seat to the Republican chaos south of their border has played a role in this reticence.

My one warning is remember brexit. When I hear republicans talk about subject vs citizen, the language of our passports, and vague challenges about what *could* be achieved by a republic it feels like brexit all over again. Constitutional change should only ever be considered once all political options have been exhausted. This happened in 1831 and 1908, trying to get through the reform act and people's budget.. only after the deadlock did the constitutional change become necessary to achieve the political aims. With brexit, the government should've made the political changes promised and then if the EU absolutely blocked it and threatened to kick us out, only at thta point would leaving the EU make sense.

What needs to happen? Nhs needs to be put back to 2010 and then built on, we need better ... everything any reliance on private health must be time limited very very strictly as in 5 years maximum and the work should be aimed to be completed within 3 years with basically low loses ( 10 -25% of remaining contract) in ending the contract early.
