Wow I’m glad i came across your video because I’ve been wanting to repair this rifle ever since it quit pumping many years ago. I got this rifle new back around 59 or 60 and shot thousands of pellets thru it. I always kept it cleaned and oiled right after using it and it functioned beautifully. However, it was packed up in my parents crawl space before i enlisted in the USAF. I retrieved it when my parents moved and it would no longer hold air when pumping it. After watching your video I plan to hunt down a replacement seal kit and repair it. After that i would like to find a way to replace the stock sights with an adjustable peep sight used for target shooting. Thank you so much for putting in the time to make this video. You did a great job explaining everything and showing close ups of hard to see small areas. Thank you I also subscribed. All the best, Don G.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your expertise and Knowledge. My Father gave me my Crossman pellet gun when I was 12 years old. My Mother kept it in a closet up until her death in the early 1980's. When we cleaned out her house I brought it home and put it in the gun closet. I pretty much forgot about it until a couple of weeks ago. My grandson is now 9 years old and has expressed a desire to learn how to shoot. I went to the gun stores here in town and could not find any 22 LR ammo. The only thing I could buy was bee bee's and pellets. I bought a can of pellets and we headed out to the desert. When we got there, the pellet gun didn't work. There was no way that I thought I could get parts for a 51 year old pellet gun. I googled Crossman 140 repair and found your video. I just finished the rebuild after watching your video multiple times. Once again thank you so much for sharing your tallents!!

Just completed replacing the seals in my 140 from the originals which are approximately 50 years old. It works perfectly!!!! Thanks goes completely to this video! Thank you.
My 140 has the safety switch; to remove it you need to position it half way between safe and fire; from there slowly wiggle it out while pushing the opposite side. You can use a screw driver to push the small metal rod pushing up against the safety switch. Keep wiggling and it comes out without any real effort.
Thank you again for these 2 amazing videos!

I have the Crosman 1400 and did not hold air. I was able to get O rings and the quad seal with the brass cup from ebay. I installed everything and have been using it for about 4 years now trouble free. I also pump it once before I store it. This rifle is very accurate and powerful and very good for hunting small game.

Thank yo very much. I just re-did the seal on my Crosman 1400 Bolt Action. I watched both of your videos. Very helpful. Just tried the gun. Very accurate, love it. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the Valve Spring. its weak in the middle. Hope it lasts awhile. I wont be shooting it much. My Dad just picked it up for $2 at an estate sale. Great find.

Long story short, in the process of rebuilding my childhood pellet gun I lost a part. It is the EXHAUST VALVE RING 140-56.
Crossman 1400 with brass valve. I would be glad to pay for one if I could find one.

I've got a 140 and one big difference is with the trigger assembly. It appears your trigger assembly is attacked to the stock. On my 140 it's attacked to the bottom of the pump tube and the stock pulls off over it - once you remove the safety switch which is part of the trigger guard. The rest of your video has been a god send for me. I'm 99.9% sure the issue with my 140 is the Port Transfer seal. Luckily I got a new one in the rebuild kit I bought. Thanks for making this video !

MANY thanks litl70. Got my seal kit yesterday. Spent this evening working on it and now I have an apparently functional SEARS .22 cal pellet rifle. I say "apparently" because it pumps up and shoots now, but I have no pellets to test it with. I assume since air comes out the end of the barrel it will work. Now to get some ammo and test the accuracy. Again- many thanks.

Hi. Good video. I got my 140 when I was 12 years old in 1967. I still use it to knock down sparrows and black birds in the back yard and like the heavy punch of the .22 cal. pellet. The rifle looks almost new but the seals are getting real bad. I'll do as you suggest and get a seal kit and go to work on it. It says "Made in USA" on the rifle and I will keep this one going and pass it on... Thanks.

Great Video you did here. I have had my Model 140 since I believe between 1960-1962. My grandfather purchased it for me. I am almost 63 myself now. Most recently tried to pump it up but it will not hold air so I purchased a kit on Ebay after watching this video. I didn't even know parts were available. Once again thanks for doing this video. Back in the day I remember this 140 being a powerful air rifle. Can't wait to shoot it again after all these years. Just have one question. Do the new O-Rings need to be lubed after installing? If so anything in particular like a little White Grease? I see they make a Crosman oil. All I remember oiling the gun with back in the day was 3 and 1 oil or WD 40.

Excellent video! I have a question on replacing the quad ring in the poppet valve. When I look at the end where the quad ring goes, there appears to be a hard plastic piece flush with the brass poppet valve. Does the washer go under this plastic piece? Also, if I sit my new washer on top of the hard plastic it is noticeably smaller in diameter. Thanks for any help you can give me! Dave R.

My Crosman 140 ,1966, has a tang safety on the trigger system if that's any clue, but I pulled the trigger box one time and found the sear to be badly worn, resulting in a lot of trigger creep. Is there a way to fix this? I know an old machinist, but don't know if he would be able to make replacement parts.
I recently found my long lost repair kit and hope to do a rebuild with the aid of your excellent vid. That rifle was a real tack driver in its day and is still my favorite, even though it's been sitting in its original box in a closet for many years, having lost its ability to hold compression long ago.
BTW, do you recommend lubricating all the seals and other components when re-assembling the gun? Which lubricant do you prefer, that will not harm the seals/o-rings? And how often do you recommend oiling the internal mechanism, with the same or a different lubricant? If I can restore this little gem, I would like it to be good for the rest of my life, and maybe those who come after. Thanks.

I have a Crosman 140 that was given to me by my late father as a Christmas gift when I was 14. This 50 year old gun is very important to me. It doesn't pump up. Watched your videos several times. Very helpful BTW. First installed a seal kit. Same result so I got a new pump rod assembly with new cup. Still nothing when trigger is pulled. My PTFE check valve isn't shaped like the one in your video. It is tapered on one end only with a smaller diameter protruding from the taper. The other end is flat. I installed the tapered end into the valve body with the spring against the flat end. The check valve sticks in the valve body and I have to force it out through the intake port with a tip cleaner. Could the sticky check valve be my problem? Have had the gun apart 3 times and I'm stumped.

I followed the video but now there's a leak so that it won't push the pellet out. I have the poly tubing washer on outside the barrel. Could it be the washer clear at the rear in the hole where the videographer said he replaced a rubber washer with a lock washer? It pumps up but when fired air leak out somewhere making the gun worthless right now.

Thanks for the video, I am rebuilding mine that I recieved Christmas of '79, was wondering if the handle on the bolt comes off from losening a screw in the back of the bolt as shown on my schematics. Any suggestions on where to get new seals? I know you said that it was difficult. My 140 looks to be in great condition, it was my grandfathers back in the day. There is no compression upon pumping so this leads me to believe that seals are bad.. Any suggestions or recommendations before a rebuild would be much appreciated.

  • @DADGADDY
    @DADGADDY 11 років тому

Wow thanks for the quick reply, the schematics that came with the seal kit show a set screw with a slotted head, but I looked really hard at the back of the bolt with good lighting and a maginfying glass and mine sure isnt a slot head, maybe its a hex but really small, I will try and see if I can get it out tomorrow. Sure seems like it has to be a set screw holding that handle on. If I cant get it out, does that O ring on the bolt really effect that much. For all I know it still seals OK.

Did the job yesterday but it didn't work out as I expected. The Rifle still doesn't hold air or air is not being pumped into the rifle possibly a (pump rod assembly) problem. My Check & Exhaust Valve Assembly is the Brass Valve different from above. It has the Teflon seal that doesn't require a O-Ring. I replace all other O-Rings except the one that is suppose to go inside of the Exhaust Valve Cap. Mine being Brass does not have a O-Ring inside of it. It seems to be all metal as I scraped a little of it thinking there was a O-Ring at first but it was all metal from what I was able to see. Does anyone know this to be a fact? The exhaust valve Ring at the end also looks different then yours above and different from what I see in the downloaded Crosman Manual for the 140. The one in my Crosman manual has the threaded hole in the center part of it an then the tube becomes smaller. The one that came with my Rifle when looking at it has another smaller section tube in front then the tube is higher in the center where the threaded hole is located and then the tube is smaller again and of course it fits right over the exhaust valve cap. Other then that everything else seems to be the same as in the video above. One other thing I encountered is that I had a problem getting the valve pin out of the bottom barrel as it got lodged standing verticle stuck in the barrel. I believe this happened because when unscrewing the bottom wood stock nut and washer the complete stud unscrewed out of the bottom barrel and brass valve. It was a pain in itself to get it the valve pin out of the barrel and it looked to have done some scoring inside the bottom barrel. Any help or suggestion would be appreciated as I seem to be stumped.

Ok 8 months later after putting the 140 away I decided to do a little more research. I was wrong with my last post thinking there wasn't a O-Ring in my Brass Exhaust Valve. Took the 140 a part a 2nd time and felt inside of it and sure enough what I thought was dirty brass was a Exhaust Valve Inner Seal. What a pain in the neck to dig it out I have to say. It was as hard as a rock and took much picking with the aid of a very small flat bladed screwdriver using it as a pick. Got it out in pieces until the remainder half or so came out pretty much whole. Cleaned the inside out with Q-Tips and Alcohol. Wasn't so bad getting the new one in which came in my seal kit I purchased 8 months before on Ebay. Didn't use any lube on the inner seal but put some Super Lube muti-purpose Teflon Grease on the other O-Rings. Put everything back together and now the 140 works. Don't know how powerful it is today compared to back during the early 60's when I first got it but loaded up a pellet and shot it into a piece of 2x4 at close range inside and it buried the pellet in the wood so I am assuming it is good to go. Going to leave it with 4 pumps of air overnight to see if it holds the pressure. Want to thank (lit170) who made this Video available. Without it my 140 would still be sitting in my gun cabinet. I should mention that I also found info on the GTA forum that helped me with my piston that I also knew would need to be replaced. Forum member Mac1 there is also a Vendor who sells a Flat Head Piston Rebuild Kit for Early Crosmans for $9.00 plus shipping as of this date. I purchased the kit and it works perfectly as good as new and probably better being next time there is a problem all one needs to do is change out a piston O-Ring instead of replacing the whole piston.
