The Questions To Make You Have A Good Hard Look At Yourself & Wonder How The Hell It All Came To This:
    1. Is diversity in your collection important ?
    2. Are you a completist?
    3. Do you like to have several different formats & why?
    4. Is having all the classics more important than having the obscurities that no one else has?
    5. Is having OG's important to you or are you happy with reissues?
    6. Is the size of your collection important?
    7. Do you prefer your collection to be well curated or a mixed bag of wonderful weirdness?
    8. Do you care what others think of your collection &/or collecting habits/obsession?
    9. Do you see your collection in terms of what you have or what you don't have?
    10. Where does it all end?
    11. Does it even matter in the big scheme of things?
    12. Can I have your records when you die?

I watched this a bit when you uploaded this.. watching the rest now. Great point.. I absolutely love my record collection, it's just the way I like it, and it always has room for modifications, additions, trimming down, organizing.. all of that ! I lovin' that you are busting out other bands / artists.. don't get me wrong, you are the curator of everything that is killer in Australian music, and you have shone a nice light on New Zealand bands as well !

I was a bit cheeky with the click bait style heading but I honestly find it fascinating how people view themselves & their relationship to their collection & collecting habits. I honestly just go for what I like the sound of & I didn’t consciously know how much Australian/NZ stuff I had until I trying to think of an angle or theme when started my VC channel. Anyway it’s turned out alright 😂

It's turned out very good, and for all of us, your friends and viewers. I'd have to feel that my collection is the best in the world because it's mine, the way I want it.. organize it, or not, and especially that it is very large now, and I like it that way ! I think having some diversity in your collection is a great idea. Different music for different moods. Now I don’t have a collection as diverse as yours but it gets me by. I don’t want to be a record collector. I just happen to have a lot of music. I don’t have to have only og’s I will never pay an exorbitant price for one record. Nor will I ever have a crazy, fancy system. My hearing doesn’t warrant that. I don’t buy albums just so I can brag about what I have and how cool my music taste is. Great job with this video Ben!
    Cheers, Gary

Thanks Gary, Speaking of diversity I'm enjoying all of the different opinions that I've received in the comments on how people see their collection & their purchasing habits. I'm with you I think. From the outside I probably seem like a collector but I just want to have a lot of stuff to listen to and I like records better than any other format. I have a pretty good system, but I'm of the opinion that if that system (cheap or expensive) sounds great to the owners ears it is great. I gotta admit I've been in the VC long enough that I've bought records after the fact and thought that would've come in handy for such & such thread or comp, but I've never bought anything specifically to show on YT. Have a great Chrimbo mate. Cheers...Ben

Hi Ben, interesting to hear all the genres you're into. More than anything I love discovering and getting into different genres - don't know if you follow Sunnyboy66's channel, but some of the obscure compilations he posts are fascinating. I don't recall you mentioning any Latin type of music - currently living in Colombia I'm surrounded by it - I like "classic" cumbias & I particularly like 1960s/70s boogaloo. I'm also very much into Turkish psychedelia at the moment. I don't have a big music collection, and it beats me how people like yourself or Mazzy actually have the time to listen to so much! I'm guessing you must have albums you'll never get round to listening to again! Many thanks for the video & have a good Christmas & look forward to next year's vids.

I can’t say I know much about Latin music besides its influence on western hip hop & rock music. I am always open to learn more about all styles from all countries. Happy to take recommendations 👍 I have a few Turkish Psych comp’s & they’re all great.
I listen to music everyday. Maybe there are things I had a period with & they’ve been on the shelf for a while but inevitably something will remind me of something or whatever else & those older things will be put back on the playlist. Great to hear from someone who’s not part of the typical western VC world. I would love to hear about some of your local music because I’m always on the hunt for interesting new sounds. Cheers…Ben

As a former vinyl record collector myself with much inherited from my parents and theirs that were mountains of 78's covering so much early jazz records, Blues records, novelty records from artists as Ella Fitzgerald to Paul Whiteman, Dorsey's, into tons of 33-1/3 LP's ranging from Sinatra to many finely records classics from Tchaikovsky, to musicals as "My Fair Lady" played over a burgeoning stereophonic sound system that was not high end but was stereo records and early stereo FM radio channels -- suffice it to say my mother loved swing from Harry James, Sarah Vaughn, Ella, Martin, Mancini and the very beginnings of 45 rpm singles especially the novelty records by, Red Ingles, Elvis (my dad thought Elvis was a bad joke and he wasn't wrong) but when we kids were growing up, earing some money we'd spend it on Beatles, Stones and all these Tavistock Institute created British invasion acts where the stupidity of post WW II White Christian kids would buy anything "new and improved" not understanding how subversive the British crap was to the strength of White kids coming of age in 1965 and all the psy-ops run on them to divide and conquer. I could make a detailed list as Michael Williams, aka the Sage of Quay, has, their modus operandi, the goal being finished as I write much to the detriment of people my age who just can see the psychological warfare operations through limited hangouts as the Dead, Doors, Hendrix, Beatles, Stones, Jackson Browne and no one else was allowed to have their material in any competition. The idea being, of course, is to corral the minds of young adults into taking drugs, free love, interracial relationships, dispossession of one's Christian roots, to take as gospel the Warren Commission report on Kennedy assassination and so many other issues the contrived psychedelia "open your mind" LSD stuff pimped through CIA well infiltrated into the record buying public not music for music's sake but as social engineering operations -- The Sage of Quay, Supernatural Beatles channel are exquisite on this topic clawing back lost knowledge and why a Beatles or Stones when they were demonstrably marginal talents at best. I lost all my thousands of records out of necessity but the total worth in 2005 was approx. $20K, many foreign imports not distributed through major labels. I listened to all these records start to finish, to learn, transcribe, to absorb the culture of these groups to shine through my own playing unbeknownst to your average audience. The musicians in my area knew where I was coming from, one being Jaco Pastorius who was just like me with records, study, bringing signature licks into his playing because that was the make-break point of the working musicians of that time and in that place.

My collection ranges from drone & electronic to punk & garage to avant-garde classical & free jazz. Although, I must admit, I occasionally get jealous when I see collections that gather together everything from a certain label or artist. I appreciate completist mind-set but it's not for me. Good questions. A mix of short, medium and tediously long answers:
    1. Very Much
    2. No
    3. Yes and No
    4. Not Really
    5. I'm a vinyl consumer as opposed to a collector, so no.
    6. No
    7. My collection, or my accumulation, is evolved and not particularly intelligently designed! (see extra bonus answer)
    8. God No. And I find it kind of amusing (in a condescending way) to watch people here in You Tube waving records at a camera going look at what I got! Look at what I got!. Unless they are adding some value, making some effort to present the channel, such as one finds here, that's a hard unsubscribe.
    9. I define it by, I guess, what I have in as much as the accumulation of records is more about the juxtaposition at any given time of music and moment and what you don't have can't define that.
    10. It doesn't. It's always beginning again.
    11. No and maybe yes. Long boring answer ahead. Skip to 12 now. 18 months ago, it was a hard yes. But in August 2022, when it became apparent that unless and number of remote and unlikely things happened, it was Doomsville for Old Fouly, the big scheme of things radically altered. After those remote and unlikely things happening, and the law of unintended consequences making some unwelcome appearances, this year, I spent 72 days in hospital, had two spells in ICU, 19 hours of surgery and a major bout of sepsis and the big scheme of things suddenly became will the wife have enough money to live comfortably, can I leave the kids some money for house deposits, will someone feed the cat, what's it like to be dead etc. There didn't seem to be any music. Looking back, a critical moment in the whole scheme of things was when I was laying there, in the warm, all besotting fuzz of Fentanyl (and I don't know if you have ever had any experience of F. but its big drawback - assuming it doesn't kill you - is it deprives you of any volition. You just lose all your will and lay back in the big warm blanket of it - but the thought occurred to me that if I could just reach out for my earbuds and put them in and press a button. there'd be nice music. And, over what seemed an eternity, I managed that. And then there was music - John Coltrane, 80's Miles Davis, Sonia Pottinger productions, Laura Nyro and Stevie Wonder - I put Higher Ground on a loop to unfuck my mind. It worked. Kinda sorta. So maybe, in the big scheme of things it does matter because that whole notion of the next sound you hear not being your own mind flipping over is a powerful reminder you aren't alone. And that you're alive.
    12. You should have asked that 18 months ago.
Extra bonus: No theme, per se - but the core reason I buy records these days is trying to assemble the record collection I had and dreamed of having, when I was 16 years old. That's at the core. It's not over ardently pursued, but that's at the heart.
My bonus question: How do people sort their collections? By Genre, alphabetically, or like me, totally at random....

Re: that not long & boring answer. Luckily so far I haven’t had any serious health scares. In a way I have a story that relates. One time when our fire alarms went off in the night & there very nearly was a full on fire, I just grabbed my wife & went straight out the door without a thought for the records. It was then I realised that in my unconscious brain was an instinctual knowledge of what was most important. Admittedly if I had of lost the records I probably would’ve started all over again. My guess is I wouldn’t worry about trying to track down what I had & just get down with new stuff. Through necessity I’ve found that I’m actually pretty good at moving on & getting over things. Man you’re gonna have a lot of albums to put away! LoL! I hate having to put away 10 album from my vids but I’m a lazy sot! I really enjoyed this overview of your collection! I’ve actually been thinking about what my endgame is with the records I keep adding and am I picking up albums that really have an impact on me or am I buying records that will appease the viewers who follow Cosmic Vinyl? Will it look good onscreen? Am I letting the viewership drive my decision of what I do and don’t buy? I hope it’s because of my interest in a wide variety of music and my quest to discover something new that I haven’t heard before! I don’t know if this is making sense or has anything to do with this video but I do know this. My listening experience has def changed in the past few years of being part of the VC! I have discovered so much amazing music that I had no idea existed just by watching other VC members videos and it has been a def positive! You’re part of that influence by the way! You’ve shown me so so many albums that have peaked my curiosity and I appreciate you sharing your outstanding record collection with us! Keep on rocking my friend! Happy Holidays and I look forward to seeing what goodies you’ll show us in the upcoming year! God I hope this makes sense because I feel like I’m rambling like some sort of lunatic! Cosmic One, that did all make sense. Interesting that you’re at the point of wondering if the viewership is driving whether you purchase. For me as a viewer my tastes have expanded. Watching all my fav channels(especially in the Cosmic Realm) has definitely shaped what I buy, but that’s cool because the VC had turned me onto a lotta stuff I otherwise wouldn’t have been aware of. The endgame is the biggie for me. I’m not sure where they’ll all end up. I think I’d prefer to kick the bucket when I’m old but still independent & able bodied then end up in a home where I can’t take the things I enjoy like records, stereo gear, Bluray collection, books, drums & guitars. Without that stuff what will I do in there? Ok thanks for being part of that small anxiety attack 😂 Hope your having a great Chrimbo & enjoy a nice cold one 🍺 Peace….Ben 🥁🎸🕺💪

    My responses......
    1) Maximum diversity and some perversity.
    2) Nope. Not a completist except for those with 2 45s to their name.
    3) Generally only one format is fine.
    4) Classics to a degree but all sorts of obscurities.
    5) OG is nice if affordable (most of mine were bought when first released) but I have no problem with reissues.
    6) "You gotta use what you got, it doesn't matter about your size".
    7) A well curated big bag of weirdness.
    8) I have to care a little bit since I am married.
    9) I see my collection in terms of what I have until I can't obtain something.
    10) It ends with me in the cremation jar and my wife or stepson saying "now what am I gonna do with this mess?"
    11) Nothing matters. It would be nice if someone would enjoy these things.
    12) Can I have YOUR collection when you die???

Unlikely, highly, but it may be superior to Maslov's, he owns hundreds of Beatles related vinyls yet they only knocked out a few lovely tunes. He also owns Dylan Lps! Nasty. If I have any Country or Blues they will be in the comedy/quirky crates. Although even the more maligned genres have the odd Lp of musical value. The Fall are quite a marmite band, some see their noise as puerile gibberish, others as innovative, serious. The lead singer presented as a lobotomised numpty to me. Over the years I bought what I hear that appeals, usually from a radio show, now utube, or moreso in the past at someones house and they play something that tickles my gonads, so to speak.
