My two children homeschool, and recently, my son (7) said "mom, I do want to go to school because then I'll have friends"... and it honestly broke my heart. Right now, were not in a position to join a co-op so I am just praying, and trusting God and His timing.
That was what my husband was worried about too when we started homeschooling last year for kindergarten. Our daughter has tons of neighborhood friends but we didn't know any homeschoolers. There's a handful of families from our church who homeschool but they are all part of existing groups and activities and they are all busy cuz they all have multiple kids. So i joined my local homeschool group on fb. And tried to find groups and things for my daughter during the day vs after "school". We are part of 2 park meet ups weekly and there's a drop-in ice skating thing once a week. This is our second year.
Thank you so much for this video, I actually had a homeschool group open house today and while I was looking for tips on how to present my group I came accross this video and I am glad I did. I started my group last year and it was just like 4 to 5 moms and I felt as if my group needed to be bigger to attract more families but today God blessed us with a great turnout and I met very nice moms in the community who were looking for a group like mine. I am blessed even if it's just 5 kids. Thank you for this! I was encouraged because I agree with being with likeminded parents even if that means that this will be a small group.
I agree know what your join into. I didn’t know what I was getting myself and kiddos into and it true be careful not all co group main be for what your looking for. I been praying I think not hard enough. My kiddos are a little older and they do want other kiddos around.
My girls are also in sports. They do soccer and recently did dance. Our co-op/homeschool group isn’t just play dates either. We’ve done lots of educational field trips. But I prefer to be the one teaching my kids at home, rather than do it within a co-op. Everyone has different opinions and thoughts on the matter. I thought I’d share mine because I know many people are also looking for co-ops and group that gear more towards educational field trips and activities rather than having someone teach a certain subject to your kid.
@TheGracefilledHomemaker That's actually EXACTLY what I wish I could find around here!!! Homeschooling as a whole isn't very popular in these parts though, so it makes sense that I can't find one. I can't wait to move lol (It's not why we're moving but the area we are moving to conveniently has a lot of homeschoolers so yay!)
Thank you so much for giving me direction. I'm looking to do the samething. Just a play group at the park, library, some arts and crafts, and go on field trips together no academics. Looking to meet once a month no dues or fees. We decide what we would like to do and everyone help bring supplies needed. Ex arts and crafts constructionpaper glye glitter crayons etc.. One question i have where should we meet? I was thinking about picking a local park but if it rains we would cancel. But what would you suggest for winter months?
When we get to the winter months and it gets cold outside, we do game days where we meet at the library to play board games or we go to the recreation center and play in the gym. It can be structured where we play a game of kickball or just a fun gym playdate. We have also done science classes together inside when its cold. Hope that helps!
What part of Indiana are you in? I was thinking of starting a homeschool group for many of the same reasons. We're in Noblesville. Our kids are in a weekly group right now, and we're not really happy with it because it costs money, it's cliqueish, the dads aren't welcome, it's too large, it's too much of a time commitment, and the activities aren't what we're looking for. (We're looking for extracurricular activities, not classes.) It's hard to find a good homeschool group these days. It wasn't like this when I was a kid. Now all of the parents are kids looking for someone else to teach their kids, which is not what homeschooling is.
If anyone who has started a Co-Op could give me advice on how you handle the monetary aspect of your co-op, I’d appreciate it so much. Do we have to file with the IRS and all that? Even if we do it in our homes and pay for our own supplies? I’m overwhelmed but my area needs this.
@@Dreaming4EverAfter I personally don’t file anything homeschool related when doing taxes. The homeschool group I started is completely free. I just ask each parent to be financially responsible for their kids whenever we do have a field trip. For parties or activities that aren’t field trip, we all can pitch in.
@@Lifewiththecanos Thank you! That’s exactly what I am wanting to do. How do you manage when you have to collect money for field trips? Or does everyone just pay the place you’re going directly?
I run a co-op and i have a board compromised of 4-5 moms that help me run it. We have a treasurer that collects semester fees($50/family). But the money goes right back into the co-op for supplies for classes, or giving to the church that houses our co-op for the power bill, etc. Because we arent for profit per se, I just keep up with reciepts but I dont turn anything into taxes.

2nd grade is an okay grade to try out school.

Your video is very timely. You spoke very well too! ❤️ loved the part about influences and what we allow!
Very exciting!!!! Sounds like a huge but worthwhile undertaking.

Too funny because I did too! I started a field trip and nature exploration group! Love this video!

thank you , very helpful
How’s your co-op going!?
I loved your video. I’m wanting to create my own as well. No academics just for friends as well. Quick question, where do you all meet?
We meet at different places. Parks, zoo, museums. Anywhere you can consider field trip material lol
