Hi from the UK. So glad you've found these ladies.
I discovered Band Maid about 10 months ago and saw them live in a small venue in London last November. I can honestly say they are one of the most exciting bands I've ever seen live. ( and I've seen some of the best in my 55 years). They play like they were meant to be together. I must have seen this video over 30 times and it gives me chills every time I see it. Just keep watching their live stuff. I could recommend so many tracks to watch but anything from their Studio Coast or Zepp Tokyo gigs kicks ass.😁

Band Maid is tremendously talented. They have worked and worked at their craft, playing gigs everywhere and anywhere across Japan, and expanding into Europe, US, Central America. The band's music even got better and harder when they wrote all of their own music (Domination album). Take Me Higher, Dice, Play, Don't You Tell Me, Gion Cho, Moratorium, Screaming, etc. Other bands worthy of consideration are: Aldious - Re:Fire, Dominator, We Are; Asterism (A very young group of virtuosi, with a 16 year-old female lead guitarist) - Rising Moon, 155, Takayoshi Ohmura's solo stuff (Babymetal's Kami Band guitarist) - Never Surrender, Wanna Get a Good Love, Tell Me Why

As Rick Wagner said, that no one has yet requested Asterism. They are my absolute favourites besides Buckethead and Band-Maid.
Their new tune Stars is crazy good. React to that one if you dare. Their musicianship equals the Kami band. And that...says alot!

Best rock and roll band in the world! Not metal. Has metal elements but they pull from all genres of rock. Then throw in jazz, blues and classical for good measure.

So much good BAND-MAID still to come.
I'm almost jealous that you get to experience their songs for the first time. : )
I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Japan has helped save Rock 'n' Roll music, especially in this decade.
I'm a little surprised no one has suggested Asterism yet (unless I missed it).
Here's a live studio version of 'Rising Moon': ua-cam.com/video/BKbxEEYezZc/v-deo.html
BAND-MAID are more Hard Rock, with punk, metal, funk, pop, etc influences.
Asterism are more solidly in the Metal camp.
Their lead guitarist HAL-CA is 16 years old, and a force of nature.
Also, if you like a lot of strings on the bass, check out what MIYU is playing in this one.
He's a year older. The oldest member of this band is his brother MIO, who is 19.

Hey Rick, thanks a lot ( trust you to find the new and interesting), that was really something - she's wicked and the bass, 7 strings???, really?? and how hard is it to do hammer ons, pull offs and tapping on a bass on those heavy strings? These kids give me chills, they are so good and so young. When I starting watching Grete Van Fleet I thought those kids were really good (and I still like them), but these kids show you how it's really done.

    • @rickwagner-
      @rickwagner- 5 років тому

@glen kelley I was lucky enough to catch Asterism live in March.
They played one Los Angeles show after a bunch of Texas dates around SXSW.
The fact that it was a small club without a big audience didn't stop them from going full force.
      Super nice kids as well.

  • @Shoe-metal

One thing about pausing the video to comment is you lose the momentum of the song, and this performance has a ton of it. Their duelling solos building into that chorus is a hard rock explosion! Puzzle live, Dice, Domination live or MV (it's a particularly cool video), pretty much anything live from their official releases (not fancams) like at the "Zepp" venue. Pro-tip: pay attention to Akane's drumming during their songs, she's doing interesting things most of the time.

Love to see you react to Band-Maid. They are great, aren't they!? However, with this particular group, I strongly suggest you strap on some headsets set to "Stun". There's a whole bunch of feeling and depth being left out otherwise. You can still blurt out your fun reactions (with the headsets on) and then get into deeper commentary about the B-M experience after the song's over. Try it with "Moratorium" ua-cam.com/video/N7BQCkUb4SI/v-deo.html or "Choose Me" ua-cam.com/video/hnqoJwPFXPk/v-deo.html. Just a thought. ;-)

I've watched a few of your videos and, so far, you guys are doing alright. I do have advice for you.
Personally, I'm fine with reactors pausing videos when they want to make a comment. To me, it's much better than when they try to talk over the music which is just distracting and it takes away from the music. However, and there's always a 'however', you seem to have a talent for pausing the video at exactly the worst moments. A perfect example was when you paused the video at the start of the bass and guitar interplay. You paused the video in the middle of MISA's first bass solo, which for most BAND-MAID fans is close to sacrilege.
Don't feel bad, this is an affliction that most UA-cam reactors have. And let's be fair, there's never a 'good' time to pause a BAND-MAID video.
So, my advice to you is if you're going to pause the video (again, pausing is fine) go ahead and pause it, say what you want to say and then back up the playback a bit before you hit play. For example: MISA starts her solo, you pause the video and say your piece, then you go back to a point in the video before MISA starts and then you hit play. This way you (and us) can get the full impact of that part of the video without interruptions.
As I said, this is just some advice. Consider it, ignore it, it's your choice.

    • @TheBandSShow
      @TheBandSShow  5 років тому +2

That’s a good call. I always feel like, if you don’t want any pausing, don’t watch a reaction video! It’s hard to pause at the right time if you don’t know the song. But great suggestion on backing up some. Will do, thanks!

There's a lot of good groups coming out of Japan at the moment, especially rock and metal.
I'm partial to BiSH who are a "Punk" Idol group who also happen to make obscenely good pop tracks when they set their minds to it. MV ua-cam.com/video/i90zUjc_J30/v-deo.html or live ua-cam.com/video/-EBhpOs-zsw/v-deo.html
There's also groups like Broken by the Scream (ua-cam.com/video/Q8qOH-f6doM/v-deo.html) or Passcode (ua-cam.com/video/Wmt86RKEkuY/v-deo.html) who are more metal.
There's rock bands like OneOK Rock (ua-cam.com/video/i7seozLvbHw/v-deo.html) who are hugely popular.
Or Metal like Maximum the Hormone (ua-cam.com/video/beN5ep5MrdY/v-deo.html)
There's plenty more like Necronomidol or Doll$Box to try, so I hope you find something else you like too.
As for Band-Maid, honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with pretty much any track, especially live.

If you are getting copyright issues, I guess you flipped the video for that reason? You can always use the link and sync style. This also means you two do not dominate the screen so much.
Band Maid are just wonderful live. They would be known as a 'good ol' rock & roll' band in the West.
Unfortunately, in my own life time I have seen the demise of rock music in general as the music industry makes pots of money out of sampled songs fronted by pretty boys and girls and groups. Yes, including some of the metal bands of the 1980's! You can't blame the music industry entirely, hard work and practice to master an instrument has been replaced by a computer programme and someone mixing sounds that sells by the truck load, so why bother learning to play or even to sing? Anyway, with probably the exception of some of the Kpop groups where production values are fantastic and songs are still good and purposely fronted by girls and boys who can sing and dance and look spectacular, thanks to Band Maid and other groups from Japan, there are still talented musicians, selling records and touring. Of course, there are still traditional rock groups forming and producing great material from countries all over the world but my views are mainly about the main stream music industry, particularly commercial radio.

While I feel like the European and American metal scene has been quite stale in the latest years, I was really happy when I discovered the Japanese metal scene.
My favorite band is Versailles, even though I like Aldious, Band maid, X Japan, Maximum the hormone etc.
The reason Versailles won the top spot is because they have done a mix that is (almost?) a new genre of metal, my suggestion for a first listen would be Versailles - Faith and decision ua-cam.com/video/AdhfE6ITfoQ/v-deo.html

I have enjoyed many of your reactions, including this one. I am a subscriber because you two do such a wonderful joint effort. However, I must ask that you two consider a better audio setting with the songs you react to. They seem to be truly lacking in the "bass" sounds in the videos lately as well an echo type of sound that permeates in your videos. Perhaps a tweek or two here or there could remedy this. Also maybe hanging up some sort of sound dampeners in the room would help in these issues. I absolutely mean no offense. Just a kindly meant suggestion.
