- We've a bit of summer weather at last and the blue sky makes anything seem possible. Grass is flying and we'll be cutting silage in about 2 week's time. The calves are doing well too and the field where we had the rape seed for the weanlings is finally being sprayed off for reseeding.

I would say if you want to keep that stone ditch run wire along it. There always seems to be a few to get in at them and overtime nothing could be left. Mind it while you can 👍

Your calves look great. How do you get the calves eating 1kg of meal so quickly ?
We reared a few suck calves last year and they were 10-12 weeks old before they were eating enough meal to wean them. They had a choice adlib of calf crunch or suckler mate nuts. They preferred the hay and milk replacer to eating the nuts. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I’m not sure myself. All I do is reduce the milk from 5 to 4 litres about 4 weeks before weaning and they seem to naturally eat more meal then

Seen ya on the tv food matters program. It look like you were waiting for the "steak dinner" after the plant based starter. The likes of them programs have the puplic convinced that animal farming is prime cause global warming. When it is in fact oil and gas out of the ground.

Can ya spray the docks on the multi species grass?
Not really. The selective sprays would kill the big-leafed grasses like plantain and chicory. It’s that post-emergence spray that I couldn’t apply that was really the start of the problems with docks
Did any of the silage ground get pig slurry?
No but I’m hoping to get some out after the first cut
@@sullivansfarm is the pig slurry local how easy or hard is it to get as in paper work?
