I know this is an old video, but just what the Dr ordered for a totally confused newbie. Thanks for you clear and concise explanations.
Glad it helped - thanks for the comment
Thank you for this video. I was pounding my head against the wall trying to figure this out. I find it rather non-intuitive. I thought the section you highlight with the scissors would be the ones you CUT, not the ones you KEEP. Thanks for this explanation. I look forward to trying it out.
Thanks Mike, yeah it’s not intuitive at all
This is totally messed up! Opposite to everything I've used before :(
Super helpful video. Learned exactly what I needed in under 5 minutes, thanks for the great video!
Always happy to learn something so thanks.
SOOOOOO glad they have added this
Thanks for intruducing this cool new feature!
Thanks Rich, great tips.
As always very informative
brilliant thanks Rich!
Brilliant! Thanks for this

Amazing tutorial!

Thanks Rich so much for clarifying.
This is great. Quick and easy to follow. Thanks for the tips!
Great tips... surely I will try this "jump-cut" edit in 360 apps.
Great. Thanks. Keep going
Learn something new everyday. :) Great tip.
excellent tips and ideas! cheers!
super tips and ideas - I like it ! :)
This feature is a godsend! Been using this feature on kinemaster editing app to edit my videos. As big as Insta360 I'm super surprise they just now add this feature 🤔😲😂. But super glad they did. Finally have the reason to buy the One R.
you are the man ! thank you so much, I can't get enough of my 360 ! Feel sorry for my 1 inch though, it does not get a look in !
Very useful thanks👍🏻
This is really useful and amazing ... many many thanks for the explanation Rich 👍👍
thank you sir!
Thank you very much sir this video helped me a lot 🙏🙏
Thanks I needed this one one of the best channels on 360 really appreciate it thanks
Thanks for your comment, much appreciated
Thank you for sharing your ideas to all of us struggling editing videos with insta 360. Also keepings us updated with some other tricks that we can do on our 360. 🥰🥰
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated
Perfect.
Great video
Hi Reg, thanks for a very, very useful video of the Jump Cut feature. Well done and cheers and a BIG thumbs up.
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated
Brilliant thumbnail!
Brilliant KEEP it simple so even IDIOTS like me can follow. Love the video's you put out. Want you to know how much you help people like me and others. After having my stroke 7 years ago, although I was lucky and came from total paralysis to able bodied I suffer with short term memory loss and find it really difficult to learn new thing, your video's allow me to save to my desk top so when I am away from internet watch them over and over again till I get it, Thank you very much Ray K. UK. YNWA.
Hi Ray, thanks for your comment, it means a lot, I’m so pleased you find my videos helpful, Rich 😉
@@EatSleep360 Can I ask why did insta change its watch while you video ? I have a E-scooter and the belt band , with the iphone on the handle bars you could see what you where filming and also if something got in the way you just stop raise the invisible stick or just it instead of finding out when you got back home most of the stuff you filmed was rubbish, lol just wondered if you knew why. Many thanks Ray K UK YNWA
Ray Keogh that’s a good point, I’m not sure, it’s not something I’ve really used. Maybe ask the question on the insta360 Facebook community.
@@EatSleep360 After many replies and questions from 360, it finally came back to me with this, no sure if its right but will test it out today because its not how I normally set it up unless and I am not sure if ive heard you say it can stay on the last settings you leave it on, Anyway the possitive reply with a answer,
Thanks for your picture. May i know which lens mod you are using? If the 360 lens mod, normally only in Standard video mode the app will show the preview.
Ahh. Lifesaver. One more subscriber to you👍🏼
Thanks, much appreciated
Hi Rich .
Great video dude! I wasn't sure about this feature, but after seeing this I think it's going to be a big help.
Here's another use - A variation of the best bits. Add some transition time at start and end of each best bit and you've got a compressed file to bring into Premier, or Final cut. 😎👍
Thanks Ray - yes good idea 👍🏼
Enjoyed the video! When I first did this before your video, I was confused as usually when I edit it’s taking out the parts I don’t want like on Final Cut Pro and I believe the DJI Drone app, so first found it weird that this takes out the parts you do want...so it took me a little bit to get used to it lol
Yes I agree - I did exactly the same, it wasn’t clear
Great explanation and video ! You are the best ! Wish however that Insta adds all these app features to the Insta360 Studio software! editing on a phone is still a big challenge and working in the PC is so much more comfortable
Thanks for your comment - The studio app will be updated really soon but still won’t have all the app features
Great video. I only wish all the great app features were added to the desktop version.
I agree - More features will be coming to the desktop soon but not all of them unfortunately
What I love about it is that it technically does not create one single clip. Instead, when you add to your story, it inserts each section as an individual clip, so, you can further edit and add transitions in stories. Extremely helpful!
I didn’t realise that - that’s good to know, thanks
Alleluja!
Thanks, Rich! You helped me a great deal! After jump cut trimming, is there two files existent? The raw material and also the trimmed file?
Export the edited file and then reset all edits from the the three dots top right and this will take you back to the full length clip - do a test to make sure. I always back my files up to my desktop so I can always go back to them if needed.
Is there a way to undo the last trim edit once you hit the check?
Hopefully jump cuts make it into Insta360 studio 2020, because it is a huge timesink exporting all the individual clips.
Great update!!!! Quick question....do i need to reload the app to get this mew feature or will it update automatically. Sorry for the simple question....newbie here!!!
Should just update automatically - it did on iPhone - on Android you may have to download I’m not sure

I want to split and do a different transition style on the other portion of the splitted video on my mobile app. . because i'm tired of using the usual built in panning transition. Jumpcut does not answer it because it does not preserve a frame the way a split does. I hope there's a way or an update soon. Up to now, I would still need to upload it to the pc to use the studio editor.
Great tutorial - can you tell me how to save a small segment (say20s) from a 45 min bike ride? I'm using a 360 X4, but just cannot find out how to save a small part of a vide clip.
Select pro in the app and then select trim at the bottom and you can then trim the start and finish by sliding your finger on the clip either side of the bit you want to keep. Then select export at the top.
@@EatSleep360 I think I tried that, but I also want to keep the longer clip rather than trimming the complete clip. When I tried that last time, it cut the beginning section and the end leaving me with just the 'Trimmed & exported' part - with no way back to the longer video clip to export another small section....... So essentially, I don't want to trim the beginning, and end leaving me with a 20s clip, I want to choose a small part of a longer clip and export that, whilst keeping the long clip untouched for later... is that possible? Thank you in advance.
hey Rich is the the jump cut feature available on android as well or only apple? i never got an app update for this
Yes it’s just been released for Android as well
Is there a way to add non insta 360 pics or chips to a insta 360 story in the phone editor?
I thought there was but just checked and couldn’t see it on there
Do we need internet connection to use insta app an edit videos ?
No you dont, you can edit on the app without internet
How do you jump cut on the p?C?App
Oh android update is available 😊😊😊😊
Why don’t I have the option anymore on Quick app. I don’t see this trim feature.
Does it take too much memory when we edit videos fr Insta 360 twin edition and save it on our smartphone??
My netbook broke down that is why I only user my smartphone to edit .
Thank you
yes it can - but the good thing is you can edit directly from the camera via the camera's wifi without downloading to your phone.
So today I was trying to edit my 360 for the very first time. I took about a 30 minute long video and then I made a mistake with a jump cut. I was trying to cut out a minutes worth of footage. I did not want it. Unfortunately, I deleted everything except for that one minute. When I go back to the album, it doesn’t show the original footage anymore. I did not delete or reformat the SD card as of yet. So is there a way to get that original footage back so I can start over? Thank you in advance for your help.
Swipe to the left in the app with the clip open and you can select reset edits
@@EatSleep360 thank you, I’ll give that a try
How to I add footage from other sources (such as my cell phone) into my story? I'm using the android app.
I heard the new footage had to be copied to the Insta 360 R app on my phone. But I don't know where. I tried copying to the Insta 360 R folder, and various sub folders... but the footage doen not appear when I select "add media" while editing a story. So perhaps I'm not copying the footage to the right folder?
On iPhone you have to add to your story and select all at the top instead of app and it allows you to import from your phone - I’m not sure on android sorry
Is this feature available on the Insta360 Studio?
No it’s not, you can only trim the start and end in studio
Hi great movies and guides you make! However, it can be difficult to keep up once in a while when one's "main language" is not English! For example, the last movie - what is a tic icon that you mention to collect it all with in the end ???
Yours sincerely
Lars
Denmark
Thanks for the feedback and for watching - it’s in the top right corner, I point to it at 01:21 - hope this helps
@@EatSleep360 It helps - thank You!!
just got mine and took a vid did some jump cutting, but i didnt know that is what it was called. are pivot points added into the jump cut? this is all new to me.
No, so all the jump cut is doing is shortening the clip and bringing all the best bits together and then you need to press the + icon to add keyframes 👍🏼
Eat Sleep 360 and that’s when you can spin the 360 video to what you want to show?
Eat Sleep 360 and thats after jump cutting?
Yes - and you do that after jump cutting but you can still trim afterwards as well but just easier to do it first. Remember the bits you select are the bits you are keeping.
Eat Sleep 360 awesome thanks for the input
If I’m using this on a 360 video do I select what I want to show (reframe) before or after I jump cut it?
I think you can do either but you can’t properly see the effect of freeze frame until you process it - you’ll probably have to do it a couple of times. I would reframe it first I think.
@@EatSleep360 cheers both- that was the answer/question I was looking for! I'm happy to play and discover stuff but these vids save me huge amounts of time.
Will Jump Cut available for Insta360 One X2?
I haven’t tried it but it should be
Using the Insta 360 editing app, I trimmed footage In album section from my x2 but it was the wrong section. How can I restore the original footage I edited out? It seems to also be cut from the SD card in the camera as well??
Kindly do needful
If you select the three dots in top right you should then be able to select reset edits
Is there a way to jump cut from person to person in a conversation with a continuous sound track? It doesn't seem possible to set key frames closer together than one second, which makes a zip pan to the person who's just started speaking, but not a clean cut.
You can’t separate the image from the sound track and as you say it’s not frame accurate so it would be difficult to do this. You could create individual clips and then import them into the story editor - it might be an easier way to do it. The alternative is to use something like premiere or davinci resolve
what happens if I make a mistake as I clipped out my entire video, except the part I wanted to clip out . Do I have to restart/reset the entire clip or is there a way to get back all the editing that I did ?
I don’t think there is an undo function only a reset by selecting the three dots in top right
What about the desktop software?
It should be soon, I don’t know for sure
As for the missing audio when cutting, my remedy is to place pivot points in the video at the beginning and end of each section I want to keep. These stay visible while jump-cutting.
Good idea - I’m used to editing so just looked at my body and mouth movement but your way will make it easier - hopefully you’ll be able to hear the audio in a future update but I’m not sure everyone wants this anyway
Desktop version doesn't have a scissor icon, and I cannot find it in the drop down menus. How do I cut on desktop?
The desktop is very limited and you can only trim the start and end of the clip
What happens to the original video, does it delete it?
You can reset the clip by pressing the 3 dots and then you’ll see reset edits as an option
What happens with the rest of the video that I didn't highlight???
It gets deleted but you can reset your edits and restore it by selecting the three dots in the top right and it will bring up another menu
Pretty sure my app is broken and won't jump cut for the One X2.
The app has been updated - you have to select trim and then select trim again - the icon on the right which enables you to have multi trim points and do a jump cut
Not on Android 😔
I hope insta360 one r mobile app can editing multiple video
You can do this in the Stories editor to bring together multiple videos
@@EatSleep360 I mean it's like the Adobe Premiere Rush mobile application, which can add text, images, and more
😅
I still think this is mislabeled, trim or cut in my opinion should be to remove a portion not to keep it.
Yes i agree it is a bit confusing - when I first used it and clicked the tick I was expecting it to cut out the bits that I’d highlighted not keep them as you say.
Eat Sleep 360 yes kind of frustrating at first lol. Off topic from this video (sorry) the mic adapter, I have the osmo action and osmo pocket adapter both do not work with the one r. Is there something special with theirs, do you happen to know?
There shouldn’t be anything special about it but who knows. I’ve seen mixed comments on the results people are getting with adaptors and microphones with the one r.
Eat Sleep 360 these won’t correct at all. Oh well looks like I will spend $50 shipping on a $13 item lol cheers buddy
It’s annoying that you can’t get them on amazon yet - might be worth posting the question on the insta360 Facebook group to see if you can get an alternative that works
Why is the app far more advanced then studio software
I guess their target audience uses mobile mainly - I’ve been wanting them to properly update the studio for years - it lacks sooo many features
