The genius of Norm, coaly is actually a word to describe a coal rich area. Norm allowed Conan to correct him even though he knew it was a real word that sounded made up.
Yeah that was my thought, polite to behave that way and a sure fire way to be better liked than the version of norm who corrects people when they give him an opportunity. The genius has many examples. Obviously the moth joke is a classic example. The back and forth between him and Conan or letterman or Dennis Miller, or since he's doing it as I write this lol, his ability to go on a late night network tv show and eat up so much segment before telling what is a silly joke in the end but somehow making it more hilarious and joyful than the most quick of witted comedian can
@Xxaphius It's not about correcting, it is about using a word that sounds made up yet isn't and allowing only the very few in the know to chuckle.
I had to look it up but I guessed it was a real word after watching Norm religiously over many years. Everything he does seems to be planned with careful thought even when it doesn't seem so.
@Xxaphius Not just me but his peers believe the same. Was it not very polite to correct you?
What really gets me is when he says in dignity
"They grow up so slowly, it's barely discernable"
