This video came at the perfect time. My parents are in a convalescent home and my dad passed away last Monday. I saved all his dress shirts from his closet. My Mom is so lonely without him as they have been married 62 years. Her space is small and she can’t have a lot of personal items there. I will take those shirts today and start her crazy quilt from them. A quilt is something personal she can have. Her birthday is in three weeks. A quilt from dads shirts will be a wonderful gift for her. Thank You so much.
Just discovered this channel via this recommended video. I think my grandmother somehow had a hand in putting it on my feed. I am currently making a quilt using leftover pieces from her dresses. I also have my mom’s old taffeta wedding dress from the 1960’s that I don’t know what to do with, thinking that material wouldn’t work for a quilt. You guys have helped me realize that rules are meant to be broken & to think outside the box. Thank you!!!
The way Arne sniffed the beautiful lace like a deer in the garden made me chuckle and smile :D Your passion as designers is evident and so inspiring. Cheers for adding warmth & sunshine to our days. ♡
Hello lovely Guys, a wonderful vlog tonight. Like Teresa I have my darling husband’s shirts which I cannot bear to part with. He was a climber and I have many old shirts that he wore on the mountains. You have inspired me to make a quilt from them all which will not only keep me warm but will help me feel connected to him. Thank you both, as always you are so inspiring and fun too😃😃. Big hugs and loves to you both, Dorothy xxxxxxxx😘🙋🏻❤️ Teresa, many good wishes to you and your lovely Mumxxxxxxxx
Gentlemen thank you for the video! The quilt with all of the beautiful designer fabrics made my heart go pitter patter, but alas it something that I will not do for the fact that I have no experience working with those types of fabrics. However, when the second quilt-in-progress was pulled out it reminded me of the set of quilts I finished for my daughters, completed with my father's shirts. He passed 10 years ago, and some of those shirts were at least 6 or 7 years old themselves making them somewhat threadbare. All were plaid, fitting for an older American man, and the quilts were finished off with a dark chambray to resemble blue jeans. Tears were had all around. (The girls made me promise to save enough fabric for my own quilt) It is my favorite thing to do to make a quilt to remember a special occasion or friendship. I may never make a masterpiece but I will make something that touches the heart and for me, that is much more important.
I spend each and every day of my retirement in my sewing room... trying to use up my "fabrics" (over 40yrs of collection..LOL)... same with yarns buttons, needles... is there any other way to live... Memory quilts for people and some for charity and donations... How in the world can anyone say EVER that they are "bored".. So enjoy you fellows.. Be well , God Bless... Hugs, GrammaBabs
Hi, Gramma Babs, if I may call you that with respect; I remodeling my craft room, I do the same things as you ; giving back is soooo rewarding.... I love this aspect of retirement; and I actually whooped 'cause getting older has alot of ups, but some downsides but for us crafters, not many; crafting and $10 less on driver's license renewal...LOL...happy crafting!
Babs, hi! I feel like I know you. I, too, spend as much time as I can in my sewing room, which my granddaughter named Pandora. The satisfaction of making various items for many different reasons is so much fun! I am always saying to my friends that I don't think I've ever been bored either! Love peace and joy, Audrey
I love to see all the ways you both use your creativity! The patchwork pieces from fabric found at Arne's family home remind me a great deal of two patchwork quilts that I have that my great grandmother made. Lucky for me, my mother had her tell her the story of the different fabrics used in the quilt and Mama wrote them down. It makes these two quilts even more special knowing their history! Love your podcast and look forward to spending my Sunday afternoons with the two of you.
That is a stunning collection of textiles. I love your projects. One of the things I get most excited about is "transparency" and layering of fabrics because of the endless variations and beautiful effects that can be created. Thanks for sharing your creations.
You two just make my day! Your joy and the beautiful inspiration you share is wonderful. Your quilts and fabrics are lovely. Thank you so much for again sharing such personal pieces from your lives. I hope you had a Happy Birthday Carlos 🎉🎂🎉 and I hope you and Arne and Freja did something special.
Arne’s love of all beautiful fabric and lace is wonderful. My friends know I sew and make quilts, so they give me scraps all the time. I love everyone of them.
Fabulous. I can't wait to see more. My culture does a lot of crazy quilts. I have my father's clothes that I am going to make a quilt with for my mother and then one for me. I made Christmas socks with my mother in laws clothes after she died during the winter holidays. It really helped me with my grief.
Already you two have Broaden my insight and medias-choice .. subscribing. And, sharing. [also saw just now your journaling posting... and your wording of..." help keep your ideas'" again, was an eyeopener for me... ] That you would layer, and layer... well.. yes!!! Never thought of that.. some have, I didn't!!
Good morning Arne & Carlos! So wonderful to see you both! WOW!!! Gorgeous fabric samples!!! I LOVE your ideas! Inspiration along with tutorials are very important. Sometimes you know what to do but can't come up with an idea. Others, you have an idea but don't know how to implement it lol! Showcasing both as is so incredibly done here is the complete package!
Oh my goodness, this was such an exciting video to watch! The passion for the fabrics was intoxicating! And the walk down memory lane was so touching! I've watched your knitting videos, but have never seen Arne so alive and passionate. What a beautiful, inspiring video! And it was also inspiring to see you using reclaimed fabric for those stunning quilts.
OMG! I loved this video! I already repurposed worn out flannel pyjamas and cute baby blankets I just couldn’t give away into rag quilts & I love them. Recently, I made a super quick patchwork blanket out of a bunch of pyjamas my daughter loved but had outgrown. I also can not bear to throw away fabric - you gave a whole new world of inspiration for my next quilt! Thanks so much! I absolutely love your design inspiration videos! The art journal one was also amazingly inspiring bcs I also can not throw away pretty paper but didn’t know what to do with it. Please, keep making these inspiration videos, it gets creative juices flowing! :-D
I am so thrilled that I came across your UA-cam! I have a great deal of fabric in storage in another town, and you all really made me long to be able to get to it and do something with it! What, I don’t know, but it would be so much fun! I will be on the look-out for more from the two of you! Have a great time quilting!
So good to see you both. Love the story about the fabric being used to insulate around the old windows. Great find. It gives every piece a story. You're very multi talented men. Thank you for sharing your experience.
It’s all so beautiful, they bring back so many fond memories. When I was young I became the very proud owner of a patchwork quilt and that has kept me enthralled with all of it, the quilt was made with leftover pieces of old worn out clothing and then I embroidered different pictures all over it. (As well as all my clothes and anything else I was allowed to. Lol.) Thank you so much for the video with wonderful ideas and influences, and a truly awesome trip down memory lane. Thanks guys ❤️👋🏻😁
It is such a pleasure to see all your beautiful pieces of fabric and how you make them shine. If you feel the urge to talk more about fabric and quilting, don’t hold back on my account 🙂
@@ARNECARLOS Thank You...I watch your videos everyday. Im self taught as well, and i find you guys to be extremly inspiring and helpful. I am buying your regia yarn and sock pattern soon.
Wow what beautiful fabrics, both the plainer insulation ones and the haute couture ones! You are so talented in the way you are putting them together!!!! As a girl I was surrounded by fabrics and sewing at my grandmother’s house as she had been a “couturière” in a fashion house in Paris. Like you, all that fabric makes me feel giddy.... Thank you for showing us! 🌿 Ps that is not to say that I love wool any the less 😊 Thank you....
I've started making a crazy quilt from my mums dresses, her gowns and deb dress ect, all the fancy stuff she had. I've made first a cushion for her from some :) :) i know she isn't into what i do at all, but it's still something i've made , so part of her life is still around.
oooh! i LOVE YOU GUYS! You have given me that extra inspiration to bring out some of my precious lace and trimming and start applique again. Please do more with beautiful old fabric, it makes my heart sing! xx
I don't knit but I do embroidery , so I really enjoyed this video . It would be great to see more textiles , embroidery and making textile journals ! 😃 Thanks xxx
