Wild theory, but I reckon some of these shortcuts (i.e. bomb glitches, super jumps) may have been incorporated into the game intentionally by developers. They simply appear too convenient in some areas to exist merely by chance, case in point D4 and D7 which both use the super jump in conjunction with a peahat placed in the same screen in which the jump is required (to get past the boss door in D7 and to get the boss key in D4). Also why should the bomb glitch work? It seems a bit windfishy that it could be used to substitute for ocarina. Based on this, I think it's likely that there exists a bow-wow skip. You've alluded to something of this sort before; something that could obviate the need to enter moblin lair would likely involve forcing through the goponga flowers. I've tried a couple of things but nothing seems to work. The only thing I did notice that may or may not mean anything (probably not) is that it is possible to communicate the fireball shot from the mouth of the giant goponga flower into the neighbouring room by timing the screen transition. It can be used to achieve damage boost in the next room that I'm not sure is advantageous. it's fun to come up with theories huh
+Ochreification There is no real "reason" that we keep him, (he actually causes a lot of trouble later on). However, making the trip back to town just takes too long. The route that used to return bowwow is about ~1 minute slower than this one.
