What Is Videoblocks All About - An Impartial Review

A 2017 review of the Videoblocks stock footage service. This is truthful, honest, unsponsored and somewhat opinionated view of what the subscription really offers and why people sometimes have the wrong expectation of it.
I'm a little bored of hearing about VideoBlocks through people advertising it at the start or end of their videos. I don't want a sponsored review where everything is made out to be wonderful and exactly what you need. So I decided to look at the service myself and discuss the good and bad so you can make an educated decision as to whether it's the right service for your needs.
This video is split into 2 main sections.
• Firstly I look at 3 reasons why the service tends to not be well trusted.
• Secondly I look at the site itself and what you get with an account. I also discuss the VideoBlocks business model together with an example of the difference between generic stock footage and real stock footage.

It's a scam. I just bought an "unlimited" membership and found out that it's limited. When I tried to immediately cancel my membership and get a refund, they informed me that they won't issue refunds. They sold me an "unlimited" membership and got a membership that's limited.

I have loads of 4k close in footage of the moon. Wonder what they pay. :) Nice video mate. Its good to get an angle from these kind of services for someone that hasn't used them.

Thanks Brian. Good to have your feedback. I did check out the content submission element of VideoBlocks so I could speak with some knowledge before making this vid. It's a pretty well established and solid system. Not sure about the money to be made though.

I think I might be having a bit of a mental block on this one.
If I understand this correctly, you pay an annual subscription to the service and then are offered chargable content to buy? Is this right? If so, what does the annual subscription get you?

It gets you access to a huge library of generic stock content (quality varies greatly as you would expect but can be great). You can download this and use as you wish. It also gets you access to fairly low cost paid footage.
It's amazing value if you consider what you get but the constant frustration is the push of the paid footage. There should be an option to disable that.

So many have commented that when they search for footage thats include in the membership you get almost nothing

I disagree with everyone it seems. Videoblocks is great value for money and has loads of clips on a variety of subjects. You pay a very low yearly sum, become a member and have free access to all the clips in the members library. Yes, there are other clips in the 'marketplace' which are outside of my membership deal and I would have to pay for, but the clips in the membership library are good and I have used them in a number of projects. For the cost of a yearly subscription, the variety and quality of clips in the member library is excellent. I will subscribe for my third year in October.

If it has something you can use, even if only just a few clips and you're making money from your work, you can no doubt make your subscription fee back easily. My frustration at the time of making this is that I couldn't find what I needed. Anything beneficial for a project was marketplace content and much of the rest was poorly shot or strange.

@@tdcattech It has improved since the time you were using it, I am sure. The members library is a lot better than it used to be, say three or four years ago, and they have recently added 160,000 videos to the members library that used to be in the marketplace. I am making videos on a variety of subjects and can usually find something of good quality on the subject I am working on. Also, there are now a number of videos in 4K in the members library, so they are keeping abreast of improvements in technology.

Let’s talk video blocks experience. The footage they offer for the subscription service is mediocre and further more even after I had no intention to pay second year, renewal began by itself and they don’t accept a refund even if I ask immediately. Just a legal scam, nothing more
