Here are the key points from the presentation:
    - The cerebellum has long been seen as important only for motor control and coordination. But research over the past few decades shows the cerebellum is also critical for cognitive and emotional processing.
    - The theory of "dysmetria of thought" proposes that just as the cerebellum regulates rate, rhythm, force and accuracy of movements, it also regulates the speed, consistency, capacity and appropriateness of thoughts and emotions.
    - The cortex of the cerebellum has a consistent 3-layer structure, but the connections between the cerebellum and other parts of the brain are heterogeneous. This allows the cerebellum to transform diverse inputs to optimize performance.
    - Lesions in cognitive/emotional regions in the posterior cerebellum can cause the "cerebellar cognitive affective syndrome", with deficits in executive function, language, personality, and emotion regulation.
    - Neuroimaging shows motor functions localized to the anterior cerebellum, while higher cognitive functions like language and working memory engage the posterior cerebellum.
    - Connectivity between the cerebellum and cerebral networks suggests the cerebellum participates broadly in higher cognitive processing and emotional control.
    - Understanding cerebellar contributions to cognition and emotion has implications for understanding and treating conditions like autism, schizophrenia, and dementia.

Would a large tumor pressing on the cerebellum effect cognitive function? Memory, finding words?
