Thanks for watching eh? I really hated that boat so I’m glad you didn’t say I was overly biased 😝

At least Alina had her princess-seat moment? 😅 You should have chartered with Igor Stropnik. He has the best catamaran channel, he is a regular captain on Lagoon-charters in Croatia. And he is a real sailor Monti 😉 (check out his hobie-cat and laser sailing adventures) Great vid and balanced review!

Yes she certainly did… We usually like to skipper the boat ourselves now and Gord, the skipper for this trip is someone we usually take turns being the primary on the charter contract. I spent a lot of time on the helm when we had the sails up and even more time trimming the sails whether I was at the helm or not. This boat just wouldn’t close reach well or go very fast at all - probably due to weight and sail plan. We’re hoping our next major trip will be on our own boat but who knows… appreciate your comments as usual and thanks for watching! Keep well.

    So sad to hear that.
    I ordered the Bali 4.2.
Did your Bali had the larger squared top main sail?

@captains-vlog Hi - Firstly, congrats on your decision to order a boat and get out there. We were on a fairly well used charter boat with minimal equipment and that was half the issue. It was a pin top main with a small self tacking jib. If you wanted to add better sailing capabilities then definitely go with a square top main and a larger genoa or reaching headsail. We were very loaded down with 8 people and provisions for 7 days including drinking water and a full tank of fuel, so keeping the boat lighter would also be better for performance. Please be aware that this boat did have many good qualities for cruising including all that space (which was utilized very well for it's size) and we liked the forward cockpit lounge area - I personally liked that better than a coach roof lounge area - even though there were sun pads on our coachroof. Knowing its limitations, I believe, would help you configure a boat to offset some of the things we found as deficiencies and also fit your priorities while cruising. I admit...to Alina's displeasure, that I'm a bit obsessed with performance. Thanks for watching and we appreciate your comments!

@@secondwindadventures1646 Thank you for fast answer. Yes, I ordered the squres main sail and the folding props option, as it would not made sense to exchange that later. I saved the money for the 3rd sail option, maybe I will exchange the foresail later.
I will live on the boat, so the "house" character was the argument, but I was shocked about your worse opinion. I asked a captain of a Bali 4.5 in comparison to the Lagoon 42, he said that the Bali sails better (that does not mean great).

I think the square top will help. Anecdotally, we were on another charter in Belize - 7 adults, lots of gear… Leopard 40 with a pin top but an overlapping head sail. We were sailing with a Lagoon 42 with a standard self taking sail and pin top. We were much faster and pointed better upwind - we lost sight of them after about 2 hours of departure. If you plan to focus on comfortable live aboard, I would suggest Li ion house battery upgrade as the lead batteries would not last the full night and we had to run the generator early in the morning because the low battery alarm kept going off. Need fans in the staterooms too since there are no above cabin hatches in the staterooms. Still… it’s a very comfortable boat at anchor. You may have to motor more but depending on where you are cruising, but I do think you will be happy with the living space - wife factor counts a lot here too. Alina loved the fridge. 😉

@@secondwindadventures1646 Yes, you are right, comfort has it's price. I fill refit the electrical systems after my budget allows that: new batteries, solar, electric motor, wind generator.
Before that, the fridge (220V part) has to be off, I guess. I will hopefully start from Tunesia in the cold mid of January next year.

@@captains-vlog Maybe we’ll see you in the Med sometime… enjoy your boat when you get delivery!🍻
