- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen travelled to the Italian island of Lampedusa, which was overwhelmed with thousands of migrant arrivals this week, at the invitation of Italy’s premier, who is calling for a naval blockade of North Africa.
Von der Leyen’s spokesman, Eric Mamer, had confirmed on Saturday that she would make the trip at the invitation of Italian Premier Giorgia Meloni.
bout 7,000 migrants arrived on Lampedusa from Tunisia this week, and the Red Cross said that 3,800 remained on the island on Friday. Media reports indicated that was down to about 2,000 on Saturday.

The problem I have with Ursula is she was barely elected as President, despite being the ONLY candidate, and yet gets to travel the EU telling democratically elected politicians what they should be doing, in their own countries.
The way vd Leyen and EU commisioners are appointed reveals the EU's real "democratic values".
The EU hates the involvement of European people in any significant decisions or appointments.
Remember the referenda of 10+ years ago and how "well" they went? Haven't had many since, have we?

Don't forget also the 'Visa' thing, where the human right of mouvement is a one sided thing, as they need Visa which takes months to submit it , paying around 300 euros and then they get rejected without even getting their money back. Thus, make them prefer to do the illegal way instead. Europe should assume the responsibility for Keeping Africa broken for years. The only way to fix them is their that they have a country where they can live in without the need to walk thousands of Km on foot to north africa and then to Europe.

An analysis by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) of the most recent Census Bureau data reveals that at least 16.8 million illegal aliens now reside in the United States. This figure represents an increase of 1.3 million just since the beginning of 2022, and 2.3 million since President Biden took office in January 2021.
Along with the sharp increase in the illegal alien population comes sharp increases in costs to American taxpayers. The unprecedented rate of influx of new illegal aliens over the past year would add $12.6 billion annually to the costs of illegal immigration, bringing the cumulative net cost to at least $163 billion a year. At the current pace of illegal immigration, the annual net cost will exceed $200 billion by 2026.

Meloni looks so subservient toward Van der Leyen despite it being her country being the country in crisis, not Germany. She should declare that a referendum on continuing EU membership would take place in 6 months which would be a measure of Italian and EU democracy but she won't.
