The attendees don't know what to think of Amanda! It is funny, really, in that she is one of the best singer/writers of our day, but the establishment still doesn't get it. I have been following for ten years, and this girl is the genuine thing. Now married to Jason Isbell, not a slouch himself!

Well put. I admit I discovered her really via the guy married to her, but she is a great musician and writer. Lyrics are a special combination of being funny, sore and multi-layered.

I agree. I have been following her since her first album and she is indeed the genuine deal :)

I had the immense pleasure of chatting with Amanda a couple of weeks ago following a show. Friendly, funny, exceedingly personable, along with all that talent. She's the real deal.

Not true that the "attendees don't know what to think of Amanda," though. They were followers and fans, who paid to see her, on purpose, because they knew her. But, the rest of your statement is spot on.

Everyone should go and listen to her song "When you need a train it never comes," a song she recorded well before she met Jason. Even then, it was apparent that this was one talented lady!

I saw her with Rod Picott in Kilkenny, her and her five string fiddle, fantastic stuff, words and music, and pretty as all hell as well. She's well able to command a stage with little assistance. Mr. Isbell is a lucky man.

You’re right about “Train”. Love it. I ran across an old b&w movie a few years back, maybe it was a Spenser Tracy movie. Anyway, the lead actress uttered nearly the same line while waiting for a train. Amanda’s song came to mind immediately.

I saw this watching the special on TBS, so many good songs, but this cut me like a knife. Those thousand mile stares and the twisting of great lyrics and a great voice - all held up by a band that absolutely had the perfect feel. I'm absolutely hooked.

In today's world of manufactured music, it is so refreshing to listen to someone with real talent. There is still no substitute for learning how to play an instrument, read and write music and sign. What a beautiful song.

Every now and then the universe blesses us with a true blue songstress. Amanda is one of these. Even the most amateur listener will clearly hear/feel the stark contrast between the karaoke-ish Carrie underwoods, which are a dime a dozen down on music row, and the gold dripping, spirit moving sound of the real thing. Thank you amanda shires for carrying the torch and sharing your heart with us all. You are unlike anything or anyone who's come before you and yet you are also a culmination of them all just the same. There was Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nick's, & Amanda Shires. \m/

Not sure why you need to Trash Carrie- they are different artists and they are in different lanes but both amazing in their own right. I LOVE Amanda, I love her quirkiness and her obviously talent in song writing . She got my attention in 2005 and has never lost it.

I have seen her twice, both times at city winery in Manhattan before I retired down south to Savannah, Georgia. She is a great singer/songwriter, and thank God that she helped save Jason Isbell from alcohol addiction, and he helped promote her because she deserves it. Great talents all around… and actually I saw her a third time at Newport folk festival 2019 with the Highwomen. GREAT!

She's from Texas. Not common. Yes pretty. I'd say violin over fiddle. Song writing: I'm listening.
