Anthony understands artists in a way few people do. He’s a genuine gift to us all.
Amanda Shires is BADASS!!!. Glad she does what she does. Be good.
She is a gift. A treasure to Americana & country music. Such talent- one of my biggest songwriting inspirations. The new record is phenomenal. She deserves so much more plunking attention. Love from St. Louis.
Yeah, the new album is fire.
It takes a huge amount of courage to cry during an interview and incredible insight to realize it’s a strength and not a weakness. Thanks Amanda for letting us feel like it’s ok to break down sometimes and it’s ok to have issues in your marriage. When we hear other people’s stories, we realize most of us aren’t that different after all.
Echoing all the positive comments.
Amanda P. Shires just handed us all her heart and a warning.
👸🏻
pay attention to the whispers.....
I'd never heard of Amanda Shires until earlier this year when I saw Brandi Carlile salute Joni Mitchell at the Kennedy Center Honors and was looking into Brandi's music. I found The Highwomen and learned that the concept was Amanda's brainchild. What a talent and she has so much depth. That is a winning combo in my book.
Thank you!
Thank you for your art.
I loved the interview. And I have realized that I think Anthony is a fantastic interviewer. He actually listens and responds accordingly. Well done!
Last time I saw her live was w/John Prine in Austin. I received High Women as a gift from my husband, and of course we are both huge fans of her husband’s band. However, I am seeing her for the very first time. I see you. I’m sorry it took me so long, but I love you more with my eyes and heart wide open.
Thank you. 🎙🎶🎶
Yolanda Harper I hope Amanda sees your comment here.
John Prine loved Amanda. That alone speaks volumes about who she is, both as a person and an artist.
The vulnerability and authenticity here....phenomenal
This IS a real person! She's a force...one to be reckoned with! You go Amanda! I love your music ....your talent is God given...
Sing it for us all. ❤️
Amanda, You were right all along its just they didnt see it
I absolutely love Amanda, I have recently discovered her music and I am addicted
Shes such a sweetheart
Anthony Mason is such a wonderful interviewer, a real pleasure to listen to, and the fact that Amanda opened up is a reflection on his lovely skills
Amanda Shires is an incredibly amazing lady. In real life she's very shy and humble. It took her a long time to approach Brandi Carlile with the idea for the Highwaywomen group. Brandi loved the idea, and both ran with it. #1 album first time out.
She's gorgeous! I love hearing her talk. She's so genuine and an inspiration to women. (Oh, and Mercy looks just like her)
I hope that this incredible new album from Amanda Shires cast a light on the chokehold the major labels in Nashville have on country radio and the CMA's and the ACM's; Amanda is considered more "Americana" than mainstream country, and is thusly on Silverknife records, a "boutique" label. Artists not on major labels (Sony, UMG, Big Machine, etc) are very unlikely to receive airplay on the major radio playlists, nor nominations for awards. She and her husband Jason Isbell left the CMA over their snub of John Prine. There now exists a group of the most talented and intelligent artists in Nashville know as "Americana" artists they are pushed away by the major labels in favor of the Luke Bryans and Florida Georgia Line's of the world singing about keggers and pickups ad nauseum.
Empty Cups is the most beautiful duet I've heard in years. Everything about this record is breathtaking and flawless. I'll say this; note once again that Amanda is on a non major record label, and Maren is on Sony; if this record doesn't get nominated for all kinds of awards this year, it's simply because of that. If it doesn't, you can go ahead and confirm your suspicions that the awards shows in Nashville are like the Oscars, bought and paid for by the major labels. If Amanda was on Sony, it would compete for song of the year, & Amanda would be nominated for Female Vocalist. I'm dying to see how great a record on a non major label has to be not to be ignored by mainstream country.
I'm pretty sure that she owns Silverknife Records since they are distributed through Thirty Tigers. More importantly, she is the only musician on their roster.
Very well put! I recently introduced my wife to Jason Isbell when we saw him in concert at Wolf Trap. My wife always has her car radio tuned to a country station but was not familiar with him or Amanda Shires. I've basically have said the same thing, the best written country songs are not played on the radio. It's something that you have to discover.
@@JoeMandell- check out GemsOnVHS and WesternAF. Trust me.
I hope so too but I doubt it. Nashville and country are so into male music and white makr music at that. The city is no longer an example if country it’s called big business. When Jason Alden can charge $25 for roast beef dinner at his restaurant then you know people are chumps.
incredibly moving interview, heart touching stuff😪
Jason and Amanda’s story reminds me so much of my own 19 year marriage. Like Amanda my wife recognized my internal struggles. Love transcends so much. Amanda and Jason are the definition of a true love story.
The only time I've been blessed to have seen Amanda in person was in Nashville. This tiny beautiful woman, alone on the stage with her violin. She sang "You are my home" and I have never been the same. She spoke to me with her raw and vulnerable words and she is TRULY an artist. So happy to have her new album out! Amazing talented humble people like her have no idea the lives she touches and forever change. Please support this artist. She has put herself out there again and this world needs this gift.
Thank you Amanda for bringing together the Highwomen! 🙏
I just love her!! Her music and her spirit!
Amanda made another great record. Thank you for this interview. Looking forward to seeing her play these songs live soon.
Turns out it was my favorite record of the year. Thanks Amanda!
Makes me love her even more, such a sweetheart, you go girl, it would be impossible to not be fond of you, I admire you so much💚😎🤙😍💃🏼🌞🧚♀️🙏💥😘
Amazing interview, she and her journey are inspiring.
Just had the pleasure to experience Mrs. Shires ina small intimate show in Oklahoma City. It was absolutely an amazing experience for my wife and I. She is a real one.
She is so extraordinary.
I love her honesty !!!!
Amazing interview - nobody a better champion of Americana music in the mainstream media than Anthony Mason. Her new album is sublime, and "Fault Lines" will take you out. Especially the line about Jason writing himself into a hero with the mention of "Flagship". Ouch. Perfection.
Just stumbled across Amanda and it's love at first sight!
I identify with her so much, her vulnerability and she cry's so easily, I thought I was the only one like that.
I love her writing, music, her style, sense of humor, everything.
They both give me hope for love again, the happiness and wonderment for one another.
Amazing and wonderful, Never too old to start something so serious and complicated, but yet so simply, perfectly meant to be.
💕❤...HUMAN....it happens ..thank you both for your music Jason and Amanda and being human is o.k.
BEST WISHES 👌
Also , great interview 👍
Wow, emotional interview much respect to Amanda and I hope she goes far cuz I got hooked when I heard her voice 🎶🎶🎵❤❤
She is a wonderful artist and person.
Just discovered across Amanda. She's wonderful.
This album is incredible. Her voice is incredible.
Keep going Amanda! 💙
Beautiful interview! Go GO GOOO AMANDA!!!
With Jason and Amanda you have 2 supremely talented artists who wear their emotions on their sleeves.
Jason is a road warrior so I’m sure these demands stretch the fabric of the marriage. Punctuate that with the miscarriage, the demands of being relevant musically, and being a parent and it’s no wonder they had a bit of a rift.
Jason is a perfectionist and I’m sure that Reunions album burned him out.
Ultimately they are perfect for each other and love conquers all.
We are all blessed to have this incredible couple in our lives
What rift?
She’s sounds like she’s sweet and very kind she is just like Jason great people love them ❤️
Amanda is a force.
3:50 One of the strangest moments in an interview ever. WTH?
Brunette version of an even better Dolly. I love this woman.
I purchased the album, I purchased my tickets to see the concert in San Francisco
first thing about finding yourself ~ don't follow the crowd & be you. ..then, express what's inside. ✨👊✨~
~ 🙌⛩️🕉️☯️⚛️⛩️🙌 ~
Many years ago she and Rod Picott appeared at a home concert in Frankfort KY. I was lucky enough to be in the front row of my friend’s living room to see them!
Thank you
This interview was too short! More Amanda!
Watched this on TV and fell in love with her music and what she was about
Amazing interview, Anthony.
love her
A double vape hit on national TV!!! Reflects Amanda's honesty. She likes her smoke and Jason references it in "It Get's Easier". Also, after the trying recording of "Reunions" they got it together and did the COVID Barn shows...
Love her solo record take it like a man, trouble, trouble! 🌹❤️
Brilliant.
Great album
Glad they are working it out. They have both been thru a lot of things but both are great people first and great artist second. The music industry and their audience is very lucky to have them. They are true companions they bring out each other 's best. She believed in Jason brought him to Nashville cleaned him polished him glad she didn't just walk away like most women would do. If all of us had a woman like her behind us God only knows where we would be. Luv your music and you too.
Love from Mexico
love Amanda dig in your worth it watching U from PC FL
Huge fan of Amanda's art.
yeah so love her spirit more
Strong Stuff👍
I’ve seen her play with her husband at red rocks a few times. My husband calls her my girl crush. I will be purchasing the Highwomen!
I feel head over heels when I first saw this gorgeous woman......I think I called in to work that day.
That's pretty good....love this comment ! ❤️
Amanda is the real deal folks.
❤❤❤
Interesting lady. Clearly some depression and other issues going on. I hope she makes it through.
Anthony should do something exclusively on arts and music; he just gets it
Oh geez
Wonderful interview. Fair to call the Highwomen a country music group but Amanda Shires isn't a 'country' singer/songwriter. She's the one who wants to change that Nashville sound., remember?
Highwomen rock
I'm looking forward to meeting them in a couple months. I can't help they both still feel a bit bad for not making amends with justin townes earle. Big fallout . Bur they're playing his tribute show. Love all their music but partial to my cuz jt.
Sounds like her husband was patient with her..
Pisces need lots of attention. Both are blessed with talent.
He kicked her to the curb...some women are to much.
Anthony is the man.
An Ectopic pregnancy took my baby and almost took my wife. I wonder how those new abortion laws would have impacted Amanda’s treatment and that of thousands of other women who suffer similar situations?
She is The Tina Marie of Country music
Have you ever loved a woman with a deathwish?
lol
She's a Lightbearer☀️
Who else came here after seeing her on James Corden?
Very talented but not country
Aaaaaaaaahhhh, yeah, she don't drink outta red Solo cups and I bet she reads Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor. The Texas Playboys are a bunch of Commies, too. And they're a funk band.
Why are there 4 guys commenting?
Overload.
Is she an illuminati man?
Never heard of her or her husband
I bet you've heard his songs. Like ppl think morgan Wallen can write songs like cover me up. He was the main talent in driveby truckers
I don’t resonate with her or her music
A little wacky
She tries hard, she's got resources to try hard but I personally don't see a lot of talent there. Her voice is very distinct and recognizable but to be honest it's not my cup of tea. I wish her all the possible happiness.
Fyi- only librrals "find themselves".....Im from the country, i know who i am. Northern Michigan 👍
My and my families stolen identity used here!!
What?!
