Crystal, you are such a mom! I mean that in the best possible way. I’m an only child and me and my parents were more like 3 roommates sharing a space. I promise you no one ever thought about making memories we could all look back on. So, to see you get emotional thinking about looking back on these times with your kids just makes my heart so happy. Decorating for holidays and making memories is a foreign concept to me but, it’s one that you pull off so gracefully and with so much charm. Your children will never doubt how loved they are. You’ve made them a wonderful life. You are a born mom, it’s a title you deserve for all of the right reasons.

I have an only child but we definitely have made our memories and traditions. She’s 25 and still comes over for the holidays as they mean something to her. When my daughter was growing up my parents would sleep over on Christmas Eve and we all had a big dinner, watched movies. etc., then opened gifts on Christmas Day and have a nice brunch. I come from a small family but Christmas was always something special along with birthdays and other Holidays. But it’s the moms that take it upon themselves to make those times special. My mom was a stay at home mom but I wasn’t so it was tough at times just finding the time. But when you grow up with that mindset you just can’t help yourself!
You're going to have a wonderful holiday memory living in the cabin. When we built our house we too were between properties. We had to live in one of our rentals mind you it was only a one bedroom house and we have five children lol. We had to set it up like a dormitory making bedrooms in the dining room and living room which was also our only living space. To this day our kids still talk about the fun times living in that tiny house for six months and that was 30 years ago. You'll no doubt make is very special. ❤️
I love how you want to create memories for our family while in your rental. You can bet that you will one day look back on this time and realize it didn't matter where you were living as long as you were together especially for the holidays. I can't wait until your new home is ready. I have always dreamt of having a new home but not sure that will happen. We are empty nesters and have lived in our home for 36 years. We have family 4 hours away which include 6 grandchildren so not sure if we will ever move closer to them. You are a great planner and organizer. You do have a lot going on but you do it all so well!! Thank you for sharing your journey!!

What a great place to spend the holidays! That cabin is awesome! I’d say spend the least of your own funds on the cabin. Make sure the kitchen is in order (an extra pot you need to bring, some more spatulas, a shower mat etc) and do a really good grocery shop for EVERYTHING even things you wouldn’t think of like “hey we want to make cookies today, but we don’t have vanilla extract etc. ) -Also cleaning supplies- and make an emergency bin with flashlights, a radio, candles, batteries, water, a generator etc-cause you never know. You want to be comfortable, but be careful. You are only going to be there for a very short time. I’d advise against redoing any rooms or buying large pieces of furniture. You want to worry the least you can about moving anything else when it’s time to check out. Speaking from experience here (and being a MAJOR over achiever), it’s easy to get all excited and buy a ton of stuff, but then you’ve got to figure out what to do with it later. It adds a whole other element of stress. Go easy on your self! You don’t have to do everything all at once.

I actually have had cabin decor in our home since we took our first trip to Colorado on our 10 year anniversary, and have been married now 32 years! You might want to take pics of how everything is when you first move in so when you leave you can put everything back to how the owner has them. You're going to have an amazing time at the rental. Not sure what exactly you’re looking for but I bought the nicest round coffee table at Walmart over the summer. It’s 2 tier with wood top and black iron mesh bottom. Very rustic/ farmhouse style. It was reasonably priced at around $100. Just FYI. Excited to see the new place!

Even though it’s been years ago, I love thinking and talking about happy family holiday memories. I don’t know if you have Big Lots in your area, but they might have some reasonably-priced furniture pieces.
We built our first house, sold it 5 years later and are building again in a better location.. when we moved my heart was broken. Absolutely broken. Felt like we had invested so much heart and soul into our last house and if it had been in a better location we would have been there forever. We are in a rental now until our new house is ready and it's been hard but thankful we have a place to stay warm and dry!
Excited for you !!! Yes how they will always remember this time we built our home during Christmas and was staying in a rental and they still remember the real tree we cut down for our new house and their gifts Santa left there too , we talk about it still to this day!!! Fun times and memories made

Omg 😆 this is a fun time for all of you! I remember using a cooler for the boys to eat off of! That was our little table until our furniture arrived! So many fun memories at the cabin this winter and excited to see your new home in the spring !

We liked using the apple boxes from Costco to put items that just need to move from kitchen, linens etc. They stack and like the idea to have openings on side for handles to move more easily! Hey Crystal, re moving boxes….I saw a post on our Nextdoor app that someone suggested instead of boxes for clothes, just group the hangars together & put a trash bag around the clothes & tie the trash bag ties around the hangar part. Less heavy, cheaper, & easier to fit in you car (if you’re moving the clothes yourself). Also, if you have Nextdoor in your area, many times people put up free moving boxes after they’ve moved into the area. Just a suggestion. 😊

I’m sure you’ve also heard this before; but sometimes the thrift stores hold stuff back throughout the week to put out the “good stuff” for Saturday mornings. A lot of stores do that. (They put it out on Friday night before close. )

my mom was an only child she said it was so lonely so she had 8 kids we did have extreme fun on every holiday she made it so special as did my Dad

Since you can hang anything on the walls you could use wreath hangers on doors and hang signs, wreaths, etc.

Even though it’s been years ago, I love thinking and talking about happy family holiday memories. I don’t know if you have Big Lots in your area, but they might have some reasonably-priced furniture pieces.

We built our first house, sold it 5 years later and are building again in a better location.. when we moved my heart was broken. Absolutely broken. Felt like we had invested so much heart and soul into our last house and if it had been in a better location we would have been there forever. We are in a rental now until our new house is ready and it's been hard but thankful we have a place to stay warm and dry!

Excited for you !!! Yes how they will always remember this time we built our home during Christmas and was staying in a rental and they still remember the real tree we cut down for our new house and their gifts Santa left there too , we talk about it still to this day!!! Fun times and memories made

Omg 😆 this is a fun time for all of you! I remember using a cooler for the boys to eat off of! That was our little table until our furniture arrived! So many fun memories at the cabin this winter and excited to see your new home in the spring !

We liked using the apple boxes from Costco to put items that just need to move from kitchen, linens etc. They stack and like the idea to have openings on side for handles to move more easily! Hey Crystal, re moving boxes….I saw a post on our Nextdoor app that someone suggested instead of boxes for clothes, just group the hangars together & put a trash bag around the clothes & tie the trash bag ties around the hangar part. Less heavy, cheaper, & easier to fit in you car (if you’re moving the clothes yourself). Also, if you have Nextdoor in your area, many times people put up free moving boxes after they’ve moved into the area. Just a suggestion. 😊

I’m sure you’ve also heard this before; but sometimes the thrift stores hold stuff back throughout the week to put out the “good stuff” for Saturday mornings. A lot of stores do that. (They put it out on Friday night before close. )

I was thinking about scaling back my Christmas decorating this year and your tears helped me change my mind. You reminded me that little ones are only little once and they deserve the best holiday season.

That is a fun and cozy rental! 🍂🍁 I went full on cabin rustic Christmas last year and love it and will stay with that for awhile and got rid of all my traditional Christmas decor that I have been doing. 🍂 I am so excited for you all and this new family memory you can create this winter and for Christmas 🎄 It’s so crazy to see you with a coat and hat on. Can’t believe it’s already almost winter and colder temps. ❄️ where I am we are still having high 80’s 😅☀️
