- It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing the Microsoft Xbox Series X! I got one thanks to a very generous viewer we shall call, Bruce. Now it's time to review the new 9th generation console and express both to the good, and the bad.
UPDATE, you can play offline, kind of. But it requires some extra steps. Video tutorial: • Xbox Series X - How to...

I feel like Adam is console gamers' best representative.
The lack of HD-DVD support was the deal-breaker for me.
i was hoping for laser disc support gotta play some dragons lair and watch dances with wolves haha best hd-dvd is clerks
@@austinpatton96 I was hoping for vcd or vhs support, how else am I supposed to watch Forest Gump
@Mr_oedekerk It's a joke...
From 2013 to now your style of content hasn't change a bit lol
I feel like I am one of the few people that prefers the AA batteries. They're easy to replace and I just have Eneloop rechargeable batteries where I just swap out for fully charged ones. Just better than to have a long wire charging your controller. Also easier down the road than to have to find a battery replacement like on a ps3 or ps4 controller. I have read on GameSpot that the series x controller does work with xbox one
It's a nice option when your controller is dead.
Me too man! I’m the same way! I hate controllers with internal batteries, my PS3 controller is basically useless
I agree, but you can also replace the ps batteries, just not as easily.
@@animeadict17 replace it, eBay has tons of them.
I like the play and charge kits as an option for the Xbox controllers. The kit I bought has 2 for my Xbox one for pc.
The Gamecube was a little tower. Is like Series X cut in half.
XSX is the official GameCube stand.
If i had to i would put the xsx on top of the gamecube. (Swiss)
Yeah, and it was fun, too.
25:31 The hard truth about modern day gaming. So depressing that we problably wont be able to enjoy or even play a lot of these games when we eventually retire... Well if our generation will ever have that privlege lol
Great stuff as always man!!
Totally agree with your first statement. This generation feels like a firmware update or PS4.5/Xbox One.2. A little bit more powerful, an SSD and all of your previous games. It's like upgrading your PC with slightly better components. I guess that's the future going forward but man, this just feels very underwhelming and a new console launch for the sake of doing one.
I felt like that was the last gen, it felt like more of a sidestep or practice run for this gen. This gen feels like it's back to normal with a big jump in performance, innovation and new features. I never did feel the need to purchase any console last gen so this gen is even more enticing for me.
I like the upgrade approach from M$ personally, just having a 'new' xbox is way better than starting fresh with each cycle.
Its been like that since the Xbox-Xbox 360 days imo.
@Pavel Tikhonov agreed.
Actually it's the other way out, the Xbox One and PS4 was the generation that was more a firmware update. The Series and PS5 and far more powerful and both much better designed compared to their previous systems.
6th generation and 7th generation of consoles to an extent were the last “offline” consoles, definitely 6th gen though
Can't all games be played offline if you have the disc though?
@@LowlyEidolon True
If you set the Xbox One as your home console you can play all your digital games offline as long as it's a game that's licensed to your gamertag. My curious question is can a guest make an offline profile like on the 360... Because you can't on Xbox One and I thought that was super redundant...
that gamecube tower was amazing. i love the stacked console conspiracies, like when you cracked the code of all the 8th gen consoles lining up when stacked
Adam Koralik has great improv skills, he can do 30 minute reviews with hardly any cuts in the video
I’ve never really put my finger on it, but I think that’s why I enjoy his videos so much. It doesn’t feel like a prepared presentation, it just feels like Adam talking from the heart/off the top of his head and just spitballing. And frankly some far more valuable insights come out of this than most edited+scripted “reviews”.
Try it again- my series x controller works perfectly fine on my one x - just do a controller update
Im only here for the PC FX
At least the PC FX has some styling to it. I guess at the design meeting Microsoft was going for the cinder block look?
All I have to say is let’s hope for the best, Mr. Koralik!🙏🙏🙏
2 things I want to point out on this video. Yes you can still play offline. I just tested it on my Series X with the hard drives from my Xbox One X. You will need to make your console as “My Home Xbox”. The settings is under General Personalisation in settings. Second thing you mentioned that is wrong regarding the controllers. You can use the new Xbox Series X/S controllers on the Xbox One as well. Let us know if the issue is resolved for you.
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
Thank you therider04, I am getting one for Christmas and my internet totally sucks. But getting a better internet the first of the year. (Never get an internet provider ending with GEN 5.)
Who’s here right now because the comments work but the videos don’t?
I think UA-cam is having issues atm. Other videos are doing it too for me now.
Same here. It’s also not working on my computer, UA-cam is having issues for sure like the guy above said.
yup same here too
Same.
Yay, I can watch the video now!
The engineering team recently said they are looking into adding more original Xbox. They said something about it might take a while but they are looking into it
Actually, load times are pretty close to the internal drive when you're running older games off an external SSD. Digital Foundry did a video on that.
You freaked me out dude; I was listening to your "doesn't work offline" rant and typing up one of my own on another website to piss and moan about it, and just as I was about to hit "send", I scrolled down here and saw that your next video is going to give instructions on how you actually CAN play offline. LMAO, I was about to be PISSED. I'm right there with you when it comes to corporations forcing people to connect to them and other people and not giving them choice even after they've paid... ooooh that had my blood starting to boil, lol. Glad you found a fix, can't wait for the next video. I'm subscribing just to find out. Thanks!
Sorry for the unintentionally scare.
They’re called non-polarized power cables. As opposed to the cables with one side that is square, those are polarized power cables.
-A former tech employee that had to listen to people try to describe these cables in ridiculous terms for years.
There are literally no generation exclusive titles for Series X currently. That is beyond sad and also the reason I am not buying it right now. I want to see interesting new titles before I am willing to spend 500 EUR on a new console
Figured you'd be more in favor of AA battery option, for preservation. Lithium-ions are harder to replace, can swell and damage the controller, and some are custom ones (PSP, Wii U Gamepad) with poor aftermarket options. The AA format will presumably survive those, and there's rechargeable ones too like Eneloops to cut down on e-waste.
You can play offline, you just need to setup your Series X as your home console
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
@@AdamKoralik oh boy, yes please. Cos the video currently posted gave me a heart attack!
@@AdamKoralik I just saw this reply. I had to immediately go test because I panicked.
Man that is a relief. This video gave me a bit of a panic attack.
It seems most influencers/reviewers already had the mid-gen upgrade to 4k so their impression of the upgrade reflects that. For a lot of "normal" console gamers, this generation will be their first taste of 4k/60FPS. This means for a lot of people the jump in quality (once they upgrade their TV or monitor) will make more of an impression than the reviews reflect. I completely agree with all of the other reactions in this video but if I step back and ask "will this let me play games that look and feel great at a fraction of playing the PC upgrade game?" the answer is absolutely. That is all that really matters.
There's a reason the Series X fits so well under the GameCube. The GC is the female, and the X is the male, I won't explain the rehehehehest. That is the worst joke I've made today.
The MaH capacity of good eneloop blow away any internal batteries controllers use. And as someone who keeps things long term they are also easier to swap out than finding some odd sized internal pack later on.
Case in point the battery life on the dual sense looks poor based on early reports, with good eneloops you have more capacity and the advantage of just swapping out another pair when needed.
I really don't see any advantages internals really offer honestly, but I'd love to hear why exactly you prefer them?
You know I don't hear a lot of people defending good ol AA batteries nowadays. I prefer the convenience of wireless internal batteries, but they can die quickly like you said and are more annoying to replace than just swapping out some AA or AAA. I don't like spending the money on AA and AAA constantly though.
@@zeronightex I don't blame you one bit, but Eneloop are high capacity rechargeable AA's not disposable. Disposable AA's... I keep some in my bugout bag and that's about it.
Internals make life easier and don't cost extra, most last longer than the console does or at least that generation. Using batteries in 2013 was laughable, now it's spun as a "feature". Until the DS5 ps controllers were easy to open up and I've never had any issues with them. My 360 pad has been opened up multiple times to be fixed but still works, the battery packs all died after a couple of years. My original ds3 still lasts for a week of daily gaming.
In short most people just want convenience, internals are just that.
You need the internet for the smart delivery method implemented on the games discs. As these are cross-generation titles with code that vastly differs depending on the hardware its running on, it would be impossible to have both Xbox One and Xbox Series game data all loaded onto one disc. For now, it should be safe to assume that the Xbox One version of the game will be what's on the physical media, and that physical key will initiate the Series version to download on that respective hardware. This sucks for those with data caps, but at the end of the day you only have to pay once to get a game that will work on 2 platforms. That's an awesome perk for anyone who wants to get a new game now but know they will have an upgraded experience for free later on down the line when they change hardware.
The days of games running off the media its stored on are long behind us. Especially now with SSD loading speeds and the almost guaranteed nature of new games requiring patches to run perfectly and you've basically got a situation here where I don't think you can fault Microsoft in the slightest. I actually applaud them for only requiring you to buy one game disc when they easily could have gone the route in the past where the New Gen version costs 10 dollars more for the same experience with a fresh coat of paint.
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
It's kind of amusing we went back to expensive memory cards. Of course, instead of saves, they store entire games but the concept is kinda similar.
It's also impressive we went from 128kB in 1995 to 8MB in 2000, to 512MB in 2005, to 1TB in 2020.
Looking far into the future, I do hope these XSX 1TB cards are going to be compatible with the next Xbox, just like how PS1 cards were compatible with PS2.
Unless this is the last Xbox and Adam's prophecy of doom is correct.
What about region locked content? Are DVD's and Blu-rays still region locked to their respective countries?
Shit, good question, I didn't think to check that.
I can't wait to get one. I'm ready for a whole boost to the quality of life of the system.
It sounds like you may have an issue with establishing it as a home console using your Xbox live account Adam?
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
@@AdamKoralik Just saw your video, good work on getting an update out so soon, totally changes my opinion of the system now 👍🏻
2 Prong figure 8 is such a relief. Seems to be a pretty universal power cable for tech. Even for TVs and stuff.
I'm looking at this like a PC upgrade. It doesn't change what games you play, just how you play them. That being said, I'm waiting for the eventual SKU refresh... and for when I can afford a 4K TV too
That's how it should be, no "definitive editions" that are simply the same game for the new system.
thanks so much for this video! :) nobody i've seen so far has said anything about it being a brick without an internet connection. that's a real drag since i rely on my phone's hotspot for small game downloads and upgrade patches for og xbox and 360 discs. i just bought my one x a week ago and had been considering trading it in for a series x eventually. not anymore tho.
i appreciate your hard work and effort
I had a similar issue with the always online stuff with my Xbox One back in the day.
Everyone has already mentioned setting your Xbox Series X as your home console. It's basically just a way to prevent account sharing (and probably a couple other things I'm not aware of.) So yeah, that will solve your problems
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
Also, sorry to hear about your Mom. Losing a parent is BRUTAL. My Mom has had Alzheimer’s Disease since 2017. I took care of her up until April of 2021 when she got bad enough to have to be placed in a nursing home. I still visit her a minimum of twice a week, but I know I will be DEVASTATED when she eventually passes away. Keep your head up, Adam!
I really love this channel I like how he reviews console's
I love my Series X. I think Microsoft have nailed it. It’s fast and responsive and I just have the best time. A couple of annoying little glitches but no more than literally any other tech i own! Very glad to be in this camp.
OMG! Adam. I'm still watching the video but I had to pause just to say thanks for mentioning about the whole 'Big Brother Policing' always online annoyance. That is terrible man. I'm seriously put off buying one now. More people need to speak up about it like you did in this video. peace brother!
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial is here: ua-cam.com/video/NqoEDE7N5r0/v-deo.html
@@AdamKoralik Has there ever been any game that you wish you could get and own but can't get anymore due to a digital only release that was pulled down?... Mine is Earthworm Jim HD for Xbox 360. I really wish I could play this game. I've got a hacked 360 aswell as a non-hacked 360 and I can't even find a download for the game. It sucks.
That's why I fully understand your stance on gaming preservation Adam.
I love the controller using AA batteries, as someone who works in the battery industry I know the chance of rechargeable batteries that may or may not be available in the future and to stay away from cheap ones online.
Overall other then my previous comments I like my Series X very much and how much faster it loads games like Apex Legends and Control.
Damn horizontal power button..
AAs for life! So much easier to pop some eneloop pros in there imo and they work with anything else that needs AAs as well
Agree. While i use the Elite 2 with the (extremely good charge and play life) internal battery i would have preferred the option of having both the option of using batteries or a long life battery pack.
I’m just disappointed Microsoft has no first party games in the near future at all. Halo is who knows when or will it be even good. The future looks good for it but we have no dates or even windows on anything else.
I don't know what to say about all this. These machines are out now, I feel old now that my childhood has become a retro thing being added into Microsoft's compatibility list and all. I'm really happy that there's so much support in the Retro Community now. WiiDUAL, DCHDMI, recently MakeMHZ HDMI, and hopefully the Sega Saturn Toslink mod. Seriously, CS8406+Toslink Transmitter+... Some sort of wires that connect them? Ugh, the Saturn would've been so easy to HDMI mod if Sega would've stuck to their original hardware plans to be the best console of the 3D era instead of building VDP1/2 chips to do the DAC conversion along with the graphics they create in the first place! Why does the RAD2X use YCbCr instead of RGB? GAH!!! I hate that whenever someone invents a product for an ingenious concept but ruin it by adding or keeping original flaws such as, why go with the Chimeric Systems HDMI when Monster Component gives the same YUV result of the otherwise RGsB XBOX!!! I'll be recording via 0-255 RGB Xbox 360 instead of 16-235 YUV 444 OG Xbox, oh wait I can't do that because MECHASSAULT WON'T PLAY ON 360!
Great job bro💯💯
I also remember when games had full color 20+ page manuals, great packaging, artwork on the discs, etc. Now, the first thirty minutes to an hour of a game is tutorials because there are no manuals.
Yeah I am in total agreement. Have the same issue with where do I put this thing. My cabinet will NOT accommodate. Sucks you have to be online lets get them to change that. Adam, Im looking for external storage. You mentioned 8 T drive. Do you mind mentioning what one you have or recommend? Bruce that was Awesome what you did for Adam. Adam is like a next door neighbor buddy. We all love to sit and watch and listen to him.
It's just a Seagate external drive. It works well enough, but isn't compatible with XSX games. It's just storage essentially.
@@AdamKoralik Thank you!

Not likely, I'm already looking forward to the retrospective video series on last gen 😉
Adam excellent review. I hope you can get a hold of a PS5 to do a review. Adam dumb Question but is it 4K Blu Ray compatible? I've watched the entire video it was long and informative. I might hold out and see what the PS5 has to offer
Yes, it is.
"this is a perfect plug-and-play replacement"
"most people will have to significantly rearrange their viewing setup".....D
I think you can now play games offline as long as the game has been updated, according to Microsoft. I feel bad for people who don’t have any access to the Internet, because almost every game nowadays ships unfinished 🙄 and requires a day one update. So, they are paying $60 or $70 for a game and aren’t even getting the complete game, which isn’t right.
Haha, Only just realised that I commented on the wrong video. That probably sent you through a loop and thought "what's this guy talking about?". haha. Basically, I was watching the original video on my NVidia Shield TV on the big screen, while commenting on my Laptop. Due to UA-cam recently going down (offline) I didn't realise you did a followup video and I just quickly clicked the latest one (this video) to reply about what I was watching. pmsl. Sorry for the confusion geezer. Keep making great content and I'll keep watching them.
Couldn't watch the video because the premiere function makes everything buggy as hell. Please don't do this again
Not "premiere's" fault. All of UA-cam is encountering issues atm.
@@HamburgerExplosion every time I've ever watched a premiere the video ends prematurely and also jumps to different points of the video randomly... so yeah. Premiere is to blame for that

Adam has taught all us budget minded gamers a great lesson on all new releases.. if ya can, wait till next Christmas... And thanks to all whom can't. The poor's thank you👌👍🥺🤮
*edit* I tested what Adam said on my all digital series s. You can play any of your games offline.
To do this go settings - personalization - set as home Xbox.
Read the title of the video.
I made a mistake, which I addressed immediately after.
You can play offline, but a few steps must be taken first. One of which you mentioned.
No need to be a prick about it dude.
@@AdamKoralik I just rewatched the part where your explaining about this and you mentioned “when you try and launch the game you just get an error”.
When I tested this is actually says “internet connection required, to enable offline play goto settings - personalization - Set as home Xbox”
You would have seen that error message like I did, ether you didn’t read it or did and still decide to say what you said which just raises more questions??
@@Azz156 Watch my follow up video... it's a different error. It pertains to installation. Seriously, just do it.
@@AdamKoralik good old UA-cam only showing me your first video and not the follow up. Sorry to hear about your mum btw.
I did notice that delay when I launched games I copied from my old external, so that’s what that was.
This is BIG news! This means we actually own the games we bought! MASSIVELY important. Thanks for charing that and a big applaud for xbox. Very important final step is to backup your games, because indeed, it still sucks you have to be online for certification. You cannot add the games anymore when the online service discontinuous. Which is still a bummer.
I see you flexing your figure 8 power cable knowledge.
I know this comparison doesn’t go all the way, but the way you’re describing it feels kinda like.. Wii U-esque? Like how the Wii U was the Wii, but in HD; and then this being like the Xbox One, but with an SSD. Most of the hardware (minus the Kinect) being compatible with both systems. Then there’s the confusing naming for both the Wii U and the Series X. I doubt the console is gonna underperform like the Wii U, but still some interesting stuff.
Great video though! Looking forward to those birthday/swan song videos for the PS4 and Xbox One. If you’re looking for video ideas, I would love to see what you’re gaming setup looks like.
I’m confused, I only needed the internet for initial set up and download. I turned off WiFi and was able to play my game. I did this with AC, RDR2, and Ori
yes because you installed the games first before you went offline i tested this too with doom 2016 and it would start unless i was online then it would start offline
@@TheSupergamingtwins You need online to download a game nowadays, whether it’s PS or Xbox because the game isn’t even on there disc. I think Nintendo is the only one that still does it
@@georgie9303 xbox one games are on the disc i installed doom 2016 in offline mode with no updates and it worked straight away.
@@TheSupergamingtwins Nope, they’re actually not on the disc. Watch Adam’s video on the Xbox one. The disc acts as a key to the console to unlock the software certification, which allows you to download the game from online. Xbox discs don’t have the games on the discs ever since 2013. PS4 does this too
@@georgie9303 Back compat games aren’t on the disc. Xb1 games ARE on the disc. What are you talking about; are you out of your mind? I go off line and install and play right off the disc just fine!
xbox series x controller is compatible with the one. I am playing with it now. I don't understand why people hate on the batteries. I love having batteries have a 10 pack of rechargeable batteries and always have batteries to use without about charging the controller. Nice review.
This is hugh reason WHY retro consoles are getting more & more popular & why gamestop shot off to the F moon without the article about physical media
Big papa style backwards compatibility . Big Adam in the house. Got mine now mate. Also got a ps5 not impressed with that to be honest mate. No dolby vision or dolby atmos
Oh god, having the controller take AA's is a GODSEND!! More than Zero times have I had to steal some AA's from some other device just to get thought a match.
If it happens more than Zero, it is the correct selection. For that case, I have had probably 5 or 6 "Play&Charge kits" on the 360 and One, AA's never let me down, and they are everywhere.
You can even roll a small ball of aluminium foil and use AAA's. Easier on the 360 as it has a divider for the bats, but it saves lives, more than a P&C kit that dies.
Wow, thanks😄👍🏼 I keep coming back to your videos from time to time Adam, and aside from the obvious need for a lapel-mic your quality has gone up and factually is ever impressive to the point👍🏼
I know, right? Weird that some people actually complain about this. Having the option to just pop in 2 AAs is great.
2:44 that totally a fluff sound dude lol

*whispers* Conspiracy. They're all in on it. *Shakes My Head*
I live in Puerto Rico. The power grid is not in a great condition, to put it lightly, and hurricanes are a common ocurrence. Sometimes the internet remains when the energy is out (by using a power generator or solar backup), but during Maria, we had like a month without internet and between aproximately 4 to 10 months without energy. Power outages are even a greater issue in some poorer countries outside North America, Western Europe and East Asia.
Unrelated, I hope to visit Puerto Rico this year.
Just based off the games.....im going for ps5 this gen
Personally the lack of defining features or quality exclusives really kill my interest in upgrading to the Series consoles. I have an original Xbox One and that console was really rough in regards to certain features and especially on the hardware front.
Best review so far!
I'm a late Gen Z guy (21 years old), and I'm in full agreement with the last statement on how its pretty stupid that xbox games require you to be online to play. I'll put my two cents in, I'm a big Mega Man fan, I have both the classic and x legacy collections on my Series S, as well as a physical copy of Mega Man 11 on my One S. I think the games are really fun and enjoyable, but what pisses me off is that if I want to play them offline, I can't. I understand that for the challenges and such, since that has an online leader board, but if I just want to play the games themselves, its not allowed, because it's required to be online. I understand that some games require you to be online for the game to work, Destiny 2 by Bungie is an okay example of that, but say I don't want to play Destiny right, I just wanna kick back, and play some old Sonic, Halo, or Lego Batman, nope, can't do that because you're not online. The only games I have seen right now on Xbox that allows you to play them offline, is Minecraft, and Rocket League. Its pretty dumb in my opinion, I got an SNES off of ebay for 80 bucks, console was dirty, used your video on how to clean it, clean up the games i got from a family friend of ours, and I had more fun on that playing Super Mario World, than on the Xbox 😂.
I like how you are showcasing shenmue and battlefront 2 Xboxog.
As I said in a previous comment Adam this generation feels more like a continuation of the eighth generation.
At this point I’m looking forward to seeing if Sony go all in on PC, Maybe even get a partnership with Steam for across buying across both console and PC like Microsoft play anywhere program.
I know you’re very anti digital and I respect this, I mean I’m only a few months older than you to put a perspective on this.
For me the reason why I stopped supporting physical games outside of collectors editions of the games (I also buy the digital release for playing purposes) I really enjoy was because discs were glorified product keys.
I would say let’s see what happens at E3 2021, There is no doubt in my mind that Microsoft would want to continue supporting the backwards compatibility program, I’m not worried at all.
I think ultimately regardless on Nintendo’s BS practices right now with games that have an expiry date (super Mario 3D all-stars I’m looking at you) they still want to be a stand out in the crowd.
At this point though I can’t really blame them I mean Microsoft/Sony are basically the 4K twins at this point.
Remember in the fourth and fifth gen and even sixth generation brain experience with unique to each individual platform?
I think also you may see an increase in people going over to steam and playing games on PC even more now than the last generation
People may think well F this I’m going to get a Nintendo console as a companion device and play all my games on PC.
This could especially be more feasible (as I’ve said already) if Sony decide to go further in on releasing better games on PC, I think it will happen sooner rather than later.
I’m not saying the console itself is going to die because ultimately Sony need another revenue stream because games are getting bigger and more expensive to make, so from a financial perspective what are they meant to do?
To close off this comment because I’ve just feel I’ve ranted on long enough (if you’ve got this far though well done) we’ll just have to wait and see what Sony do at E3 2021 and 2022.
I think this could be the last time we see you by video game system and maybe you refocus your channel/channels into other things whether it be retro gaming completely/entirely or a complete redirection.
Anyway thank you for the things you do on this channel.
Specifically console birthdays, retrospectives for consoles and getting the most out of your retro consoles from 1st to 6th generation specificallyplus the Wii 😜.
Take care Adam and enjoy your Series X and PS5 (when you get it) 😜
Adam i got an Series X. After installing tes 4 oblivion I turned it offline. It worked?
Yep. It’s because Adam did not set his console as his main console. He needs to make the Xbox Series X as “My Home Xbox” under settings.

Obscure note to bring up, the officially licensed TV Tuner for the Xbone doesn't work on the Series X sadly
I didn't even know that was a thing, kudos.
Adam, Microsoft never said they would expand backwards compatibility list. If you have an article please share. I remember hearing that question asked to Phil Spencer in an interview. They had essentially stopped adding more titles prior to series s/x launches probably for getting those tested on the next gen consoles. I would say it would be possible to add more like the og xbox Bethesda titles once they own them. But either way, some titles have gotten major enhancements like higher fps, resolution and even HDR. Still really impressive.
I was in the room at E3 2019. It was said. They ended the program for the Xbox One, claiming the goal is to add more to, at the time, Project Scarlett. But that was like a year and a half ago.
@@AdamKoralik I'm sure that was slip. There's been no mention of expansion of backlog to be public that I've been aware of.
@@lpfan091989 That's kind of my point, they didn't expand on it since there.
@@AdamKoralik the closest I could find. They say that they're looking for the possibility to add more but that's not a confirmation www.purexbox.com/news/2020/10/xbox_investigating_adding_more_older_backwards_compatible_games
The original Xbox game called Bad Boys Miami needs to be Bree updated by the Xbox series X
“Sorry about the sirens, that happens some times”
Yeah that would be Chicago
People online have stated with XBOX One, you cannot skip the initial setup and skip the make a profile area when offline. What is the truth? If you reset and are offline, and if server one day does not work, then you can never skip the intial setup where it asks for profile name when offline?
Adam please create a separate video bout the fact that the Series X is an always-online console. Other reviews of the console didn’t mention this for some reason.
it's not always online. It works like the Xbox one
It’s not always online though. Adam has to be confused
I can play games on Xbox Series X offline. Just make the Xbox Series X as “My Home Xbox” is under General Personalisation in settings. Problem solved. You do know that PS4 is similar for digital games. On PS4 you need to set which is the primary console.
I was wrong, you need to take a few steps first. Tutorial coming soon.
Thanks for covering the offline issue
Turns out you CAN play offline, but you need to take a few extra steps. I did a video right after this addressing it.
Wow.... That's some BS right there. If my internet goes down my XSX is basically bricked. In a huge xbox fan and is my preferred console, but I can't believe they didn't learn that lesson from 2013.
If this is the case, and sony doesn't shub that BS either then I might have to switch over. This is the first I've heard of this, can't believe no one else has covered this. What an oversight. Thanks ADAM for this info.
Turns out I was mistaken, you can play offline. But you have to take a few extra steps. I did a video about it right after this.
@@AdamKoralik yup saw it. No problem
👍
Did they ever patch the whole needing to be connected to the internet to play older games?
Not sure.
I've been a fan for a while dude, you make good content. I feel the need to correct some of the things in this because I also would be angry if my console bricked when servers went down.
The Xbox Series X can in fact play physical games completely offline. However, it is only dedicated Xbox Series X games that can do this. Xbox Series X backwards compatibility with Xbox One is set up just like the Xbox One backwards compatibility is with the 360 in that it is based entirely off of online download. This is why when you put in Xbox One games they require internet. However, the games that say they are compatible on both consoles quite literally only have the Xbox One version on the disc, but they also act as a key to unlock the online download of the Xbox Series X version on the new console. The Xbox One plays it right off the disc, but the Xbox Series X does not. Of course with the Xbox One version on disc, it is backwards compatible and you would be prompted with both downloads from online. Dedicated Xbox Series X games are run straight from the disc, which is really positive and I'm glad the console is not forced to always be online.
To my knowledge, there were no dedicated Xbox Series X games at launch and Microsoft didn't exactly advertise this information. I think the idea was that people would buy it now and not only get backwards compatibility when they upgrade but also a free upgrade to the new version. I think it was incredibly poor optics to not advertise this information but the intention was actually far more consumer-focused than we realized. Its dumb that they didn't just make the Xbox Series X play Xbox One games natively like the PS5 but whatever, I'm not selling my Xbox One anytime soon.
I can't guarantee that all of the information I just said was 100% correct, and if it's not I welcome the correction, but what's important is that dedicated Xbox Series X games do download and play completely offline. I download a game offline today and am playing it offline right now actually.
Yeah there's an update video that came out later the day this was released. The online only issue has to do with certification during the transfer process.
@@AdamKoralik I see that as positive but that's actually not what I'm talking about. A dedicated Series X game does not need internet at all for any reason. I bought the Xbox Series X version of Control Ultimate Edotion today, then disconnected my console from internet, put it in the console, it downloaded fully and I was able to play it for a little bit with no issues.
@@generalmcfancypantsI see your point but to be fair, that game was intentionally completed from the get go which is a GOOD thing. I have had not seen any other “finished-offline-ready” games available to be played on Series X. Would be nice to have a list of it for preservation reason
All of Microsoft’s marketing team should be fired for the awful naming of their consoles. “Xbox” was fine. “Xbox 360” was fine. Anything after that was terrible…
To a certain extent, the Xbox Series X can run four generations of games. This beats out the previous record holders, the PlayStation 3 (first generation) and the Xbox One.
Hopefully they add more Xbox and Xbox 360 titles to their list of backwards compatible games.
I got the XSX blue sonic controller and it worked fine with my one x console via an update.
Good review adam.
Hey Adam, I didn't know you were a Shenmue fan. How come you never told us?
Secret shame.
@Jose Moran Pretty sure he's being sarcastic bruh.
PS5 feels the same way for me.. Physical firmware update. Still love the thing though, plays really nice.
It's a shame to see you make a huge mistake like this. Glad you corrected, but still... A little digging around would have prevented this.
The XBOX series S is an all digital machine. That’s probably what Microsoft is pushing.
Sony also most likely will never "make" you check in. Especially to play a single player game.
Please don't hate on AA batteries Adam, built in rechargeable batteries are great until the hardware ages, like a PS3 controller for example, those batteries won't hold a charge in a couple of years, at least xbox controllers have a better chance of lasting longer because of their use of AA
Thank you for the video Adam. Subbed! :-)
Hi, Adam! You seem to be a big proponent of backwards-compatibility on Xbox consoles. Perhaps you'd be interested in joining our Facebook group for us Xbox Backwards-Compatibility advocates. We talki about both current back-compat games, how well they perform & titles that have yet to be added to the program. Microsoft has toyed w/the idea & it's us to us game preservationist enthusiasts, as long as we fans push for it, showing there's a market for it.
Link.
I think if you go to your Xbox account and set your series x to your home console you can play your digitally purchased games offline. Hope that helps
I actually did a video about this only minutes after this one went live.
Setting it to home is needed, but unfortunately there's more steps. Check out the video if you want.
The controller uses the same wireless protocol introduced by the Xbox One, and is backward compatible with existing Xbox One consoles. Existing Xbox One controllers will also be compatible with Xbox Series X. ... The new controller uses a standard USB-C charging port for its battery. per xbox
Yeah, people keep telling me that. And I can't get it to connect for some reason, frankly I'm stumped. I tried syncing, connecting a cable, firmware updates. No idea, it just refuses.
