Obviously we can't learn tennis all at once, so at what point should we learn the lob, kick serve, slice, etc.? Should we do a little of everything or focus on the forehand and backhand at first? For example: I have been playing tennis regularly for about two years, and some coaches have told me I need to have a kick serve, and don't even bother to show me any other serve to try, while others have told me it's way too advanced, and that only few recreational players below a level 5 (US) at my club can actually do a kick serve at all. A slice kick serve? I've never heard of that one, I know they call the extreme kick serve the "American twist serve" in the states but that's simply an aggressive kick with an extreme bounce
This is a great video! I love the drills and can't wait to use them. Question-which serve stance makes the kick easier? Feet up or feet apart? Also what happened to your hair lol
Thanks for watching. For me, I always found it easier to hit a kick serve using the platform stance (feet apart) This allows me to lean back more and maintain my balance in the process but also use each leg to drive up into the ball. I always found the pinpoint stance (feet together) easier for the first serve, much harder for the seconds serve. Here is a lesson on the serve stances - ua-cam.com/video/mxrWVCZ7PLI/v-deo.html
Hair - I shaved my head 6-7 weeks ago, was getting angry at seeing myself turning into a Sasquatch, so turned into a Buddhist monk for a few weeks. Now I'm letting the top grow back in, while fading the sides every week

Not too many people have requested a side view of the serve, they always insist on the back view so we keep it simple with the back view being our preferred method. What would you gain from seeing a side view of the ball flight?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial To see, how high the ball travels (to hear you say that ball travels upwards is not the same as seeing it going so). Also for us lower level players it is good to see from the opponent side, how the ball bounces. Side view, because the speed is so quick that you cannot see, what actually happens (even when slowed down). It is not the same as seeing from side view. I am am a little bit odd and strange player, because I started playing, when I was 69 years old (now nearly 3 years). I try to learn all basic (good) things in tennis properly. Many seniors have played 50-60 years and they probably do not need any guidance, but they keep playing old ways. Serve is mostly waiters serve with forehand grip. Nevertheless I enjoy all your tennis lessons even they seem to be more for those, who are younger players. My flat serve is around 120 km/h at its best. I could not play as good as I now play without 25 years of taekwondo. :)
I’m starting to get some topspin where the ball has good net clearance and then bounces down into the box but it doesn’t kick out to the right. What should I do differently?
It sounds like you have the topspin but not the sidespin. Watch this lesson and try to master that 8-2 o'clock swing - ua-cam.com/video/yjpi0cMrkyw/v-deo.html
I played futures and money events back in the day, but it was impossible for me to continue to travel and compete as it was incredibly expensive and at the lower levels of tennis, you make almost no money at all. I then started coaching and started TTT in 2011 to share my passion with more tennis players around the world
My kick tends to have alot of spin and kicks violentely to the right, but sometimes it goes too long and I make double faults with it, way too much. What can I do to correct this?
The ball isn’t kick violently, but it appears that way from where you stand. Try making the arc higher; the ball will arrive slower, but bounce higher after hitting the court.
If you constantly hit long then you might want to toss the ball a little more towards the net. Though, it could be the racquet angle on contact or other factors.
Love your videos Simon, thanks a lot. hey i would like you to be my coach, would you be interested? how can i get in touch? thanks again either way man, all the best!
I came up with a really interesting way to think about the kick serve. Kick serve is like a backhand, I think flat serve is more like a forehand not sure though. Take a one hand backhand with eastern backhand do the swing, then go to a semi western, full western, then go another bevel all the way to a continental backhand but on the other side of the racquet. Start the racquet really high. You will find that the kick serve is a really high one hand backhand with a grip further than full western, same swing path. I came up with this too. I think flat serve is like taking a really high continental forehand.
Should I be worried that I use the kick serve as my first serve every time as a 3.5ish player? Or should I focus on developing a better harder flat serve for my first serve?
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial ARGH! I did not consider the "W-Factor" (W stands for Wife). "Hey! I see you booked a court alone! I'll join you!" (so my kick serve workout went to pot. Try again today! :-)
Slightly to the left of your front foot and for most players, you want to have in line with the baseline or slightly behind it. Advanced players can toss the ball out in front and still hit a good kick but it's harder to do, you need a good leg drive
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Anytime, appreciate the work you put into it. :) Hmmmm, my backhand is terrible weak compared to my forehand. :)
The ball is brushing up diagonally from 7 to 2pm? or brushing the back of the ball from 7-2pm??
I cover the swing path in depth in this lesson - ua-cam.com/video/yjpi0cMrkyw/v-deo.html
Top top. Serve from outside the fence to inside. Easier to get the balls after.
The 8-2 o'clock tip is so helpful.
Hi,I'm sorry. But why don't you play in the Pro tour ?? You play super 👍🏽 Very Well!!
I played futures and money events back in the day, but it was impossible for me to continue to travel and compete as it was incredibly expensive and at the lower levels of tennis, you make almost no money at all.
I then started coaching and started TTT in 2011 to share my passion with more tennis players around the world
Monster serving.
Thanks for the support

Where should the toss be? I think my lack of consistency is due to the toss as sometimes its too behind...thanks
Check out this lesson - ua-cam.com/video/yjpi0cMrkyw/v-deo.html
My kick tends to have alot of spin and kicks violentely to the right, but sometimes it goes too long and I make double faults with it, way too much.
What can I do to correct this?
You can work on these drills and check out this lesson on the kick serve - ua-cam.com/video/yjpi0cMrkyw/v-deo.html

We don't have any private lessons or clinics scheduled but we're working on getting some together. Are you on our email list?
do you use wrist for pronation ?
Forearm yes, covered here: m.ua-cam.com/video/xQH51AjNazk/v-deo.html
Please make a similar video but for slice serve
Thank you for watching

I came up with a really interesting way to think about the kick serve. Kick serve is like a backhand, I think flat serve is more like a forehand not sure though. Take a one hand backhand with eastern backhand do the swing, then go to a semi western, full western, then go another bevel all the way to a continental backhand but on the other side of the racquet. Start the racquet really high. You will find that the kick serve is a really high one hand backhand with a grip further than full western, same swing path. I came up with this too. I think flat serve is like taking a really high continental forehand.
Interesting concept.

Should I be worried that I use the kick serve as my first serve every time as a 3.5ish player? Or should I focus on developing a better harder flat serve for my first serve?
A kick serve can be a great weapon at that level. As you progress, you might want to work on the flat serve though
Good

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial ARGH! I did not consider the "W-Factor" (W stands for Wife). "Hey! I see you booked a court alone! I'll join you!" (so my kick serve workout went to pot. Try again today! :-)
Can you teach me how to hit the ball harder
For one specific shot or in general?
If you’re talking about serve, look at serve pronation videos, actually supination helped me a lot
But how can I control my shot
@@karelronquillo9865 This is the lesson for you - ua-cam.com/video/_ys2J8aiPtY/v-deo.html
If you let the ball drop on your toss, where would it land?
Slightly to the left of your front foot and for most players, you want to have in line with the baseline or slightly behind it.
Advanced players can toss the ball out in front and still hit a good kick but it's harder to do, you need a good leg drive
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial That is very helpful, thx
i can see why u dont want to do more than 10 of those over fence serves :D

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Anytime, appreciate the work you put into it. :) Hmmmm, my backhand is terrible weak compared to my forehand. Maybe u could do a vid about how to improve the strength and accuracy of your backhand? Btw. i prefer all sorts of traning methods which u can actually practise solo. :)
