Congrats for being one of the very first reviews of this Sorento PHEV in the US!!! I owned this car (exact trim as your tester without sunroof, steel gray exterior and gray interior) for almost one month now (by trading in my beloved Telluride SXP AWD), my constant needs to drive locally with only 18.3 mpg for the Telluride had pushed me over the edge to get this Sorento PHEV. I bought the car on Oct 4 and still have not refueled the gas tank (I already had 800 miles on it). For some reason I never like Sunroof so this Sorento is a pleasant surprise for me🥰). I got $500 from New York State rebate and looked forward to claiming $6600 tax credits when I file federal tax return next year☺️☺️☺️. Wish my state DMV will approve my new car sooner for using high occupancy lanes on our major highways……
First Kia I would ever even consider purchasing. Very impressive specs! Great competitor to the RAV4 Prime with the addition of the 3rd row seats makes it a winner to most shoppers. Way to go KIA!
@@shaneliffin6116 good luck finding this too. Otherwise, we are confined to a turbo charged 4 cylinder requiring premium fuel. What are the car companies doing to us?!
@@gosman949 I finally located a Kia PHEV Niro. I bought it and am very satisfied thus far. Just wish it had a bit more room like the PHEV Sorento. But you are correct PHEV's seem to be scarce.
We ended up buying one about 2 weeks ago. Really awesome vehicle. Average 140mpg going to work and driving home after work in what seems like complete silence. Totally worth the price.
I picked up my new Sorento SX Prestige PHEV a few days ago and it is amazing! From the luxury feel of the steering wheel and real leather interior to the quiet EV cruising it is a pleasure to drive.
Whoa, this Kia showed up in my timeline so I decided to come to UA-cam and research and bam, y'alls video showed up in my search. Excellent timing and excellent video as always.
Yay more piano black! Nothing like having super shiny parts to blind you when the sun hits it just right and gathers up a good collection of dust, scratches and fingerprints. Keep going auto designers! You're really nailing it.
I test drive the only one of this model I could find in the entire Phoenix metro area. It was great, but with mandatory dealer add ons and markup it was $10,000 over MSRP. Crazy. I will wait for pricing reality to return.
ooof! You can check around for other dealers that will let you order and not charge over msrp. We got ours in Utah and ordered ours. Paid MSRP nothing more than a small dealer doc fee.
Thanks for including info on sound decibel level while driving at freeway speeds. Noise level has become important to me after owning a car that is very noisy. Using a sound meter is great for comparisons.
Our family has owned two Sorentos in the last decade, a 2013 model and currently a 2018 version. Each a top trim SX-L with the (then) optional V6 engine. The car is my wife's daily driver, our big dog's 2nd home, and the family's "trip-mobile" for extended journeys. We've been very happy with each of vehicle having put about 80K miles on the first and now nearly 60K miles on our current Sorento. No significant issues with either one and I might have to pry my wife's cold dead fingers from the steering wheel to convince her to replace her beloved Sorento. That's not an issue, however, since unfortunately, despite some significant upgrades and the replacement of the V6 with a more fuel efficient turbo 4 engine as well as hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions, we won't be considering the new Sorento. The reason? The only way to get a 2nd row bench in the Sorento is to opt for the lowest trim of the non-hybrid version without the turbo engine along with a host of other features. To be clear, as a family of only three humans plus a large dog, we, like most Sorento owners, keep the third row folded beneath the cargo floor about 90% of the time. Nevertheless, the third row is a major convenience when we need to transport 6 or 7 passengers on a local outing that doesn't require more than minimal cargo space in the rear and the alternative is to use two vehicles. By eliminating a 2nd row bench in all but the cheapest, least powerful version of the Sorento KIA has limited accommodations to four or fewer humans. And to make matters worse, "Fido" is simply not "designed" to use a captain chair. Therefore, accommodating him would involve nearly always deploying the third row bench or having him share space behind the second row with cargo such as groceries. (Not a good idea.) When the 2022 Sorento was introduced, I had hoped that the hybrid versions would include a 2nd row bench at least as an option. No such luck. So if we opt to replace our 2018 model, we will likely have to sacrifice a third row, altogether, by choosing the closely related Hyundai Santa Fe.
Those are same as my thoughts. Had Santa Fe included the optional 3rd row along the 2nd row bench would have made so many Customers choose Santa Fe over Sorento. Thats the reason that hyundai deciding against third row.

I have a PHEV right now, and it gets about 45 miles average if it’s fully charged. Most of the time, I will get about 35 miles in town between the AC, uphill and accelerations. 35 mile range is on the low end, it’s a good start for a SUV, but it would be awesome if it’s about 50 to 55 miles EV range.

Thats exactly what I am looking forward to. Hyundai needs to figure out how to put 2 electric motors along same engine to power Telluride and Pallisade with that 7 speed dual wet clutch.
I have a 21 Venza hybrid. What I’ve found is that cold weather decreases the MPG up to 30%. I was averaging 40 MPG in town and now it’s roughly 20% lower at 30-32 MPG, which is still good. My question is will cold weather have any effect on the 32 miles of electric only for this vehicle as well as any PHEV?
Hi guys, question for anyone about the auto start. I currently auto start my Honda Pilot every day whether it is cold Season or Hot Season. Does the Sorento Engine have to come on to Heat or Cool the vehicle before driving away to work or play ? When using the auto start feature. Thanks for your Excellent Review 🤙🏻

How does the take off / acceleration of this feel compared to the regular hybrid model and the turbo that comes on the non-hybrid SX-P? I was only able to test the non-hybrid SX-P & enjoyed the feel of that takeoff. Wondering if these lose that? Thanks!

My question to you both is after driving both the Tucson and Sorento which was bet for over all ride and quietness? Which would you buy as your own? Thanks
Thanks! Haven't driven them directly back-to-back, but they seem very similar to each other in those respects. That makes sense considering that they share many elements in the understructure

Nice SUV but, they are over $55,000 for the plug-in. I want the Sorento hybrid in Sourh Korea. Don't like the North America version. What I'll get is the Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Hybrid. Hi guys thanks for another great review. Still love the eyelashes Drew:-). I also loved your Hyundai Tucson Hybrid review. I have a 2011 Kia Sorento SX AWD that I have loved. Thought that I wanted the Tucson just because it was AWD and the Sorento hybrid did not come with AWD or SX prestige. So now seeing this PHEV I like it.
Nice car but when can you actually buy one at a dealer?
Did they fix the oil burning issues these cars have.
battery capacity is only 38ah.. so same as 2014 mitsubishi outlander... ant it wont give even 50km range its more close to 30-40km...
It's my dream to have like this car...it's steel just a dream... in Israel it's about 100k $ not 49k$
Please make a comment about how terrible piano black surfaces are at collecting, retaining, and showing dust/fingerprints/stains. All car MFGs need to half production of this monstrosity called Piano Black surface.
Nice SUV but, they are over $55,000 for the plug-in. I want the Sorento hybrid in Sourh Korea. Don't like the North America version. What I'll get is the Hyundai Santa Fe Limited Hybrid. If I don't get that. I'll get the Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited. KIA shows the commercial of the sportage in green saving tures nesting area and that is oy gas. But, they DON'T have it in the Sportage Hybrid in Green.
Why no homelink mirror on sx prestige?
That steering wheel is giving me Bentley vibes.
With that "fully loaded" model why to keep the sunroof/moonroof optional.
Got one on sale for $59,000usd at a local dealership
What's the exterior color on this?
I truly want this car but in my city its 1 year wait. So i went with rogue sv
Good luck finding a vehicle ATM 😂
I thought it had ambient lighting in the doors and dash ???
They're only available in the northeast, CO and CA...sooooo annoying. Why?!
We're in Kentucky, so I'm pretty sure they're available nationwide now
So can it fully function on gas only?
That is correct
I like all the features but did I hear no vents in the third seat? Also, no ceiling vents? Bummer
I believe there are air supply ducts for the third row under the second row captains chairs. But no wall or ceiling vents.
Beating Toyota Highlander at it's own game!
Beating Toyota? Lol. Only in dream. Toyota big cars like Highlander has more mpg. And Hyundai lol. Cheap body materials sh#t with trashy engine like in Tuscan.
@@theeuropeanlegacy5075 the 2.5l 4-cylinder buzz-bomb engine is anything but luxurious!
Anyone know if you get the tax credit for the sorrento hybrid? Not the plug in one
Regular hybrid vehicles do not qualify for tax rebates
I believe Kia should have gone with a normal 5 seater design and AWD.
These are awd
