Ironic considering it's linux under the hood
@@returnMarccoActually its Unix that is says everything and anything. I found a more detailed explanation on Quora
Thanks "Becca Royal-Gordon"
Is macOS essentially built on top of Linux?
{In the beginning, AT&T created Unix. Due to monopoly laws, however, they weren't allowed to sell it. A lot of organizations licensed Unix and made their own variants; most were commercial ventures, but the University of California at Berkeley made a noncommercial version, called BSD.
Meanwhile, Richard Stallman at MIT came up with an ideology of "free software"-more commonly called "open source" today-and started a project to create a "free" Unix-compatible operating system called GNU. Most of the GNU project went very well, but GNU Hurd, the core kernel component, was repeatedly delayed.*
A young programmer named Linus Torvalds stepped in, starting his own successful project to create a kernel called Linux. When combined with GNU's tools, Linux provided a complete operating system that worked just like Unix, but had been written from scratch and licensed in such a way that it would remain open forever.
Essentially, GNU and Linux are "knockoffs" of Unixes like BSD-very high-quality knockoffs, to be sure, but knockoffs nonetheless. All Unix variants-whether they're modifications like BSD or clones like Linux**-have small differences from each other; in practice, Linux is no more different than any other Unix variant.
That isn't quite the end of the story for OS X, though. Just as Linux adopted GNU's tools but threw out its kernel, Darwin (the Unix part of OS X) adopted BSD's tools but threw out its kernel.
If operating systems were families, OS X and Linux would not be the same person. They wouldn't even be siblings. They'd be cousins by adoption}

Yes they are amazing machines, no doubt. But for someone like myself they have limited useability. Simply because most of us don't have the time or inclination to do a bunch of complex tweaking to make them work in all circumstances.
In Rolfe's case, he should have just got a PC for the tasks at hand so he could carry on with his project and not waste all that time trying to figure out how to make it work with a Mac.

Honestly, not too many lulz to be found here. James is over 40 years old, grew up making movies with a camcorder, and has a very old school approach to film because he idolizes people like Robert Rodriguez and Kevin Smith, who made popular movies on a budget of 200 dollars and a cheeseburger. It shouldn't be surprising he's trash with modern computers. Do you think the B-movie film crew that made The Terrifier know Python or Javascript? No! They know how to make fake blood and use pig intestines to make good practical gore effects.
Given that he's not making stuff that should be made using that approach to film though, he should've then learned how to do what he needs to do instead of fiddling around aimlessly trying to do the job he hates while wishing he could be making something completely different.
No one said that him being trash at computers is surprising, just that he never bothered to learn how to stop being trash at computers when dealing with them is an integral part of his livelihood. This is willful ignorance on James's part, there's plenty of evidence he constantly refuses to get real help.
@@dm6905 Even as a big fan of James, it is true he has allowed himself to get into a comfortable routine over the years and never reached the quality one would expect for a professional filmmaker with millions of fans. A brief glance at his bio could explain some of this. He got a BA in arts, but partied a lot in college and didn't really take it too seriously. He never went to film school or any kind of Masters program where he would have learned the skills to make serious productions. He picked up bits of pieces of how to make films from trial and error and reading a couple books. So, his film making techniques haven't improved THAT much since he was a high school kid fooling around with a camcorder. At the same time, I'm never going to hate James or get too upset that he didn't become the next Tarkovsky. He at least had some fun with his last Nerd video and I'm immature enough to still laugh it. Sure, there are people like Lloyd Kaufman who broke into film without ever actually taking any classes or going to film school. Kaufman's major was Chinese. However, Lloyd isn't a normal guy like James. Lloyd is a goofball who pretends to be a complete idiot because it's funny, but in reality could join Mensa.
Literally none of this has to do with programming so I dont know why you brought that up. Hes been making videos on the internet for 15 years and has somehow managed to get worse at doing so. That's a perfect example of his incompetence and ineptitude 🤦🏼♂️
Bro I've been recording from my PS3 for years, just get an HDMI converter
Here's the thing.
It still worked out. Other than the AVGN Adventures footage being fucked, it was a good episode.
He hasn't made a good episode for 10 years 🤦🏼♂️
No time to understand PCs
No time to understand anything anymore as april's bulls slap him around with a pinecone club
You can tell that the bulls work him overtime whenever april is somewhere else
Taking over a month when you could just record the screen with OBS or any software and transfer the files with an external HDD. Wowee, or maybe use a capture card hahahaha.
This is like listening to a toddler explain why they like pizza more than French fries
they could of just used nvidia geforce recorder and google drive
3:32 another notable thing
Could have ran a windows VM on his mac and recorded that way. Not like these games were particularly demanding. Would have avoided the PC entirely.
Or install Boot Camp on the Mac to dual boot w/ Windows.
From 2:22 and further it went to full insanity mode.
jesus, were their no good screen recorders back then?
The video and this BTS was made around 2013, so Fraps and the first version of OBS existed.
James probably could have made fraps work if just ditched trying to transfer the footage over to Mac
Holy sh*t, this is conspiracy theorist type stuff.
