Hey @wildernessoutfitters , you should make a little handy-book that we can buy. Add a little old fashion paper on it (only the look cuz the quality would be very important if we take it with us into the wild), and add tips, drawings and more. That would be the most handy book we could have with us into the wild!
My grandmother made bonset tea and willow tea for us when we were sick not at the same time like you did but all I remember is just feeling better but it was so long ago I don't remember any of the other side affects that I had
@lldistributor maybe cedar people use it to line closets with to keep moths away. and it is often used for bedding for animals. some people are alergic to it though
Sorry to hear you and the grand kids are sick man its going around I live only about 15 min from the pfs and all 6 of my boys are sick so I'm just waiting for my turn
Hey Dave, excellent vid!!! Don't forget you could add some Sassafras to make the taste a little better. What brand and size of cup is that you are using?
@wildernessoutfitters Hehe... yea, I saw what he was talking about. You did kinda look like you were fighting it back. Good work on the video- I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the rest of us!
To answer my own question about location: from Wikipedia: Boneset: "It is nearly always found in low, wet areas and is often found near Phalaris arundinacea (Reed canary grass)."
First and foremost I respect your channel. Hence why I subscribe to it for the excellent knowledge. Just to clear things up, I am not saying boneset will kill you outright with a fever, just with a high fever it is possible. If you had a low grade fever 99-101F it could be beneficial, because that would cause your body to operate at higher temperatures that bacteria and viruses can't thrive in. Keep on truckin. God bless.
@wildernessoutfitters You went to the bathroom twice because it is also used to excrete excess uric acid which causes gout, maybe why you have a burning sensation.
If it's any consolation - a co-worker was telling me a story of trying a Chinese tea brought straight in from China for Martial-Arts training/health, and he states he started urinating a ton. Likewise, I bought a new (to me) loose-leaf tea (Lapsang souchong - it is smoked or burnt perhaps like you were saying the herbalist suggested the Boneset should be) and it, too, had that affect on me multiple times (hours later though, not within the hour) when I first drank it, but not anymore.
hello sir! jsut wanted to say somthing here! normal meds from doctors dont work on me they make me hyperactive, depressed and most of the time extreamly aggressive! but i had muscle aches and figured this would be a good thing to try! it workded amazingly but then last night i got extreamly hot and had strangely aggressive dreams (dont ask) this is just my warning to anyone going to try this to try it when your not in the woods or in a survival situation because that would be bad Aren,
@SailfishSoundSystem a body temp of 115 is the highest a human has had and survived. i've had a fever of 105 before and survived with no ill effects. 108 to 109 is often fatal.
@wildernessoutfitters you are awsome man love all your vids my mom even loves to watch them cuz my grandma was always big on herbal medicine because there was no stores where she lived and she knew almost a cure for everything lol anyway keep up man much luv
I really appreciate you taking the time to make these Dave. Most people from urban areas would find no use for this knowledge but most of my family are hunters and I will be sure to pass what I've learned from you on.
Dave, only you could hike over 8 acres with a. Huge camera and tripod and film a twenty minute video with the flu, but theres only one problem... There's no "a" in fever.
@TrinityRewind I don't think anyone could say that any better! Dave is awesome! I also think that it's amazing that he takes the time to help everyone with his research and knowledge by making and sharing these videos. Great comment!
By-the-way, is there a wilderness equivalent to alcohol to make tinctures? I've heard of milk vodka, like the Mongols made, but don't know if it'd work (plus it'd be kind of hard to get the milk, anyway). Also, is it a good idea to try these smaller doses when you don't need them, to see how your body reacts? Would it do different things if you weren't needing it, or would it be like taking cough drops when you didn't need to?
awesome video dave! thaks to u and other great teachers, after a year of forcing myself to learn and memorize many wild plants and other survival knowledge, i finally start geting some results. about a month ago i achieved my first fire using a bow drill. i finally start recognizing n trying wild medicinal n edibles (no poisoning whatsoever :-) through ur teachings i now apreciate a lot more the value of resources, from water to high tech. greetings from mexico. hope u travel down here sometime.
@wildernessoutfitters All I was saying is that if the plant by nature raises body temperature and you had a high and dangerous fever, you could potentially do your brain some damage.
Dave, on behalf of everyone on here id like to thank you for these videos. its amazing that someone with your fame still finds the time to shoot videos and educate your fans. we all appreciate and enjoy everything you do
You're a wise and very talented man Dave, thanks for being there. One small correction though: it's "libido" vs. "lobedo" (has the same result of course). From your Canadian chiropractor student.
@adamanime2 he teaches survival skills in the back country, and dehydration commonly goes along with survival (unfortunately). But survival-wise, water ( and food) are your third priority, never intentionally stay dehydrated in the bush, always hydrate at every reasonable juncture
i know you dont subsribe to the whole bigfoot ,swamp ape paranormal thing but i just gotta ask have u ever while out in the woods seen anything u cant describe or didnt belong there that made the hair on the back of your neck stand up, stupid question but i was curious lol
Just wanted to say thanks bradda. I subscribed about a month ago, and diggin on the Dual Survival thing too. You and Cody are definitely badass. I've learned a lot and enjoy taking this knowledge in the wilderness. Lookin forward to learning more...What guide/book would you suggest I put in my b.o.b. to help me identify and use some of these medicinal plants and trees. Hope the boneset didn't make you barf to bad. Can't be no worse than Cody eating nuts out of elephant dung. You guys are great.
Hey Dave, you sick? Wanna stop by walmart for some theraflu? Nah, im gomna hike 7 miles into camp and pluck some weeds and bark...make my own medicine,lol. This guy is badass!
As usual, a very good video, very informative! Thanks. Btw please keep doing these video on medicinal plants/ trees of the east. Also include south east please.
@wildernessoutfitters I'm glad to hear that, my imagination got the better of me. Is there any knack to locating the boneset? I know I've seen it around my area but I can't seem to locate information on the type of soil or habitat it prefers.
@wildernessoutfitters idk, he might be right. If what your saying in your video is right and it does raise your temp, when its already 104-105 you could die. If your brain hits 106-107 it cooks it and your done.
Hey Dave I don't see that boneset is in California though I am not sure? I checked on plantsusda.gov. Is this a reliable site? Thanks, everything is very much appreciated!
What a Champion! Making a video while sick. Dude! And you should have mixed that with your Hot Chocolate. What were you thinking? Did you forget your honey. Good God Man. LOL
Hello, I am aromatic farmer and have "Steam distillation unit for essential oils extraction" I am looking for trees to grow on farm boundaries from which I can extract essential oils with steam distillation of leaves. Could you please suggest me trees whose leaves can be used to extract essential oils that are aromatic or medicinal ?
Hey Dave, I was just in Northern Canada and the Mosquitos were nightmarish. I have been looking around for effective repellent. I am not a big fan of DEET. Many of the so called repellents just do not seem to work.
Very good info! Thanks very much for doing these videos.
This has been a great series.

Per cup of cooled mixture, add (tbs) honey for taste and apple cider vinegar (not pasteurized) for PH balance.
Hope you feel better

Looking forward to the Sassafrass video.
@wildernessoutfitters You went to the bathroom twice because it is also used to excrete excess uric acid which causes gout, maybe why you have a burning sensation.
@TrinityRewind Well said! I agree!
Usually a small palm full of the leaves are what you are looking for per cup of tea.
Break-bone fever is what many call Dengue in the Caribbean.
haven't seen any boneset here though.
If it's any consolation - a co-worker was telling me a story of trying a Chinese tea brought straight in from China for Martial-Arts training/health, and he states he started urinating a ton. @RiseDemUp i see boneset where i deer hunt thanks dave now i can use it if needed i think the deer like to eat the leaves.

Aren,
@wildernessoutfitters
I'd really like to see an episode on Osage Orange/Horseapple/Bowdark (if there's any sort of medicinal use for it at all)
@SailfishSoundSystem

Great stuff, liking these videos a lot. Thanks a million

@wildernessoutfitters He could be right if it raises your core temp when you already have a fever that is dangerous.
Fantastic, I appreciate all you are doing, excellent information, keep up the good work Dave. Thanks again.
A man doing what he loves. You're a credit to your craft. Thank you Dave. (That's a bad*S's debrit hut too.). Respect.
