Wonderful craftsmanship that hasn't changed for the last 1200 years. Apart from the staple gun, superglue, plastic, particle board, and fifty years of time before it's an antique, of course.
23 years ago I bought my wife a hand made Grandmother Clock (a little smaller than a Grandfather) for her 50th birthday. To put these cheap flashy clocks in the same category as that craftsman built time piece is a real insult. Call it what it is, a cheap bauble for the undiscerning.
@@urchinsea6297 Sir, a masterpiece is the end product of a most fine will designed, well taught of, well pleasing to the eye of an exceptionnally well presentable piece of something, also meant to last through time and use. The designer, artist, craftman has perfected his/her art at the best level, at a superior level he/she can attain WITH PRIDE. The product is a MASTERPIECE. It can be essential to life or it can be simpy for the pleasure of one or all of the senses. But IT HAS TO BE OF EXCEPTIONAL QUALITY!!! NOT a palest imitation of it. What is so frustrating is that a clock, a grandfather-grandmother clock is something that comes with sentimentality. It represents time with respect, using the finest quality possible, and at best, the finest itself of quality material, for an object so pleasing to the eye whenever we look at it. This one product here is everything BUT quality. Some imitations can be of acceptable to good quality craftmanship. Frustrating because it is not the REAL THING, but nonetheless an honest imitation. But what is presented to us in this video is the cheapest of the cheapest imitation material of something that was so great to own, or at least be able to be in the presence of such uplifting object. In contrast, what is presented here tells us of an INDIFFERENCE to beauty, to the quality of a sentimental object that did and still (but rarely) does exists and makes the owner proud. But when ALL the pieces of such an intricate object is made entirely of the cheapest of the cheapest material yet presented to the eye as of being great, the discriminating person way too soon realizes he/she is in the presence of a LIE. This the reason of such frustration presented here. The viewer thought he/she was presented with a video showing us the rare ins and outs of the fabrication of what we usually know as a quality object, therefor a quality clockmaker'workshop, not a factory of junk imitating jewelry. @@urchinsea6297 Sir, you may build whatever great quality or crap as your soul may TOLERATE. Imagine taking all of the time and effort to manufacture this, and all you end up with is a cheap imitation of a real clock. One made from the cheapest materials (particle board, plastic), using cheap hardware, with fake chains & weights, and a phony electronic clock inside. This product is no heirloom "antique" product. It is a consumable and will exist for maybe ten years before it is thrown into the garbage. It is a perfect product for the fake world we live in, where everything is just for show. What is presented in this confusing, dishonnestly titled video will NEVER carry through time and generations. Therefore MISLEADING and SO dishonnest!
😵💫I’m horrified! Staples, plastic fittings and an electronic movement. I have tall case clocks that are 300 years old keeping perfect time, no batteries required. These things will end up on the street in five years. Terrible.
I agree. Even though I admire how Korea’s manufacturing is advancing, this won’t go anywhere near the charm and value of a real mechanical grandfather clock, which are actually still being made today albeit mass-produced. Also I’m sure your clocks are absolutely gorgeous.
You don't "make an antique" though you can copy an antique. An antique only happens with TIME. He does use modern joinery techniques not "old-fashioned ones," as well as modern sheet goods which they did not use 90 years ago. btw.
Sold for the equivalent of $326 USD. That's probably a fair price considering the materials and labor. But ew. I'd rather hang a painting of a grandfather clock.
Dust boards from chipboard sawdust waste, plastic, cheap fittings, staples, clock machinery from advertising items, large amounts of paint to hide the low quality of the materials and the null commitment of the workmanship. It looks like ikea furniture.
.. isn't an essential component of an antique, time? ... and I was led to believe that the other component was hand made ... nothing made by machine can be an antique ..
If its made today its not antique yet. Antique is a state not a style or look and cannot be established unless it becomes of a certain age. Sorry to call this out but it takes away from legitimately. aged antique clocks. Same term abused is vintage. Nice work though, you just can't make a antique clock, may go as far as a antique replica or if the companies name is called Antique.
