I built the same battery box but only with one battery and a smaller ammo box. I am very happy with it and you can’t beat the price. I’ve been itching to build A bigger one. I’m inspired I’m definitely going for the 2 battery system. Nice video !

Thanks! Yea, this option has been so much better than those overpriced systems that just use regular lithium batteries.

Great job on the design . I think for your application it will be fine for the low but consistent draw you need. If you are going to build another for an inverter , that’s a different story. Your wire is way undersized. Also do not put a little switch in line before an inverter. put a nice big fat fuse off your batteries in parallel. I have the same batteries on the way to me to run an electric cooler so your design is great for that 3 amp draw for 5 hours type of day. I build mobile power systems for med. size water craft , Mobile businesses and Rv’s so down load the wire calculator app and then double it and even these little batteries will work like a champ.

Thanks, Mark! I appreciate the feedback and advice. Do you think the wire is still undersized even for the smallest inverter just to keep a small laptop going all night.

Lol! That box is perfect for those batteries. I have almost the same setup. I'm using 6 of the 8ah ones though. I also have a 300 watt pure sinewave inverter inside with a 20 amp mppt charge controller. Nice build btw

It's been working great so far! I haven't done a full night session yet, but it still holds strong around 13.2-13.3 volts after several hours. What inverter do you have?

@@deepskyutah5257 it's a grander 300 watt pure sinewave inverter. I got it on amazon

One item I would suggest adding... a charging port so you don't have to remove the batteries to charge them. and you should be able to charge those with a solar panel.

Awesome! I'm looking at building a box myself, and that's exactly what I want! I'm going to be using a tablet with my new ASIAir, so I don't have to worry about the laptop power hog. I'd love to know if you've made any recent modifications/improvements.

Thanks! This system has been working great, so I haven't made any modifications with it. I'm thinking about making a single battery box for my laptop when I go to remote sites. You're right, they can be power hogs.

How long can you image with the regular Lithium batteries before the voltage drops? I've been looking at getting the Suaoki S270 or the S370 to use with my EQ6-R Pro (noticed you use the same mount).

Regular lithium batteries will start dropping voltage pretty soon after you start using them. My Rockpals 300w, 280 wh bank starts at 12.6, and I've run it down to just under 10.5 with my EQ6R-Pro and QHY168c plugged in for around 6 hours on a warm summer summer night. I wouldn't recommend that though, as it's pretty low and I don't think the mount likes it. Probably not good for the battery either. I have the Suaoki 270, and I really just use that for my laptop now. You could probably use it for just the mount and get through a night with it. The 370 should definitely get you through a full night. Looks like a nice bank, but I really wish it had LiFePO4 batteries so it would last many more charge cycles.
