Calling this an apology is really generous considering the only time the word 'sorry' is even mentioned is when she sings "I know you wanted me to say I was 100% in the wrong, well I'm sorry, I'm not gonna take that route". Literally the only time she "apologises" is when she says "sorry but I'm NOT gonna apologise". She spends this entire "song" calling all the accusations false and saying she's gonna talk about "the facts" yet doesn't provide a SINGLE piece of evidence, something Adam and other victims have spent YEARS on uncovering. The entire video is just her throwing a pity party going "poor me, I can't believe YOU would do this to ME", as if she's the one we should feel bad for, while blaming the victims for speaking out and us for believing them (again, they've provided so much evidence and it's coming from multiple sources). Don't even get me started on the fact she decided to pull out a fucking ukulele to sing this shit, what an actual fever dream and slap in the face to everyone who's been hurt by her actions

This apology is somehow even worse than the Logan Paul, Laura Lee and Shane Dawson apologies combined. The lack of self awareness displayed in this video is something else. The other apologies I mentioned are fake as fuck, cheesy, and narcissistic, but Colleen's is on a whole different level. I really don't understand how she wrote that song, rehearsed it, recorded multiple takes, edited it, had a publicist/her team okay it, and then posted it without ever once considering how tone deaf, tasteless, and narcissistic it was. There were SO MANY POINTS in which she could have backed out and realized how bad of an idea this was. Colleen has reached an entirely new level of delusional that I didn't even know existed.

    • @sylverscale

That's a little bit apples and oranges. Not every person who brings up the fact that male folks can get abused, too, is an abuser themselves. Many times it only gets mentioned because of a broad brush that is used to paint all men as predators and never victims.
Yes, it doesn't have to be when the topic at hand is about women (unless the perpetrator also harassed men), I agree with that.
Colleen on the other hand is an actual creep, manipulator, abuser... She is still doing it and is trying to deflect all blame by saying it's all just gossip and lies - while also saying it wasn't somehow...

But if she's fawning, what do you want her to apologize for exactly? Fight, flight, freeze, fawn is just how your nervous system reacts?
grooming = repertoire building (trust building) that specifically leads to A) An intimate private physical location B) genital exposure or C) intimate touching with a minor, any of that actually happen?
Fawning= excessive people pleasing developed from an abusive upbringing, its the learned behavior provided to an abusive parent in childhood in order for the child to avoid the parents abuse, which has been maladapted into one's adulthood towards anyone and everyone because you value them over yourself, You have zero intrinsic value, your ONLY value is what you can get from others that will never be fulfilling because it's external, but as the person fawning you don't understand that at all. Had her fans been gamers or drug users she may have given them free video games/ free drugs--As it stands her fans were teenaged boys and what do teen aged boys obsess over? Talk about? Value?
She may overexplain (Like in a song)/ Overshare/ Trauma Dump/ Trauma bond into co-dependent/ abusive relationships/ use drugs as a crutch/ have gaps in her childhood memory/ self harm including suicide particularly if she's developed into borderline personality disorder, what's worse is she may be telling herself that her abuse was not really abuse at all because A) She doesn't remember and or B) Our society loves parents and in our Mother's day/ Father's day society someone who has NO Value realizing that their parents were abusers, and with the lack of mental health options even available today, she herself might not even know she's fawning.
So what do you want her to apologize for exactly? If anything what if he's salty because she was a fish in a barrel and he couldn't "close the deal" 20 year old guys can be awfully sensitive to those outcomes and may try to weaponize the internet and or go to the police.....(Wait, why didn't he just? ) I'm not saying there is no way at all that she isn't unscrupulous, but let's look at more than just a few actions and calculate what and why she may be acting this way
Source: I don't know her, I didn't even know she existed until yesterday, but at 5 I was locked in a car trunk for 10 hours for Christmas, cigarettes have been extinguished in my inner bicep or back to hide them better, every gift I ever received before I was 12 by anyone always had their tags removed and it was always explained to me that the gift must've been a mailing accident because I don't deserve gifts.
I don't celebrate birthdays, I joined the Army 15 days after HS graduation because I couldn't be there anymore, I will never try to love again, and I don't need your sympathy.....now take someone who has potentially the same or similar background and tell them the whole internet thinks they are the worst type of human possible---What are your plans if she reacts in an adverse manner?
      Peace to you

I appreciate that you were able to look past the ukulele of it all.
Something that made me deeply uncomfortable was how Colleen repeatedly said she "wasn't going to survive" this situation, either herself or her reputation or her career. If she's using survival as a metaphor, it's extremely inappropriate considering that people really have lost their lives due to internet harassment campaigns. If she's *not* using a metaphor and she really *is* worried she won't survive this, the people in her life *need to intervene immediately* because what she's doing is obviously fueling the situation further and that's a very dangerous spiral if she's sincerely in that vulnerable place.
None of the above is meant to excuse her actions, including the way she claims she "took accountability" as a blunt instrument to avoid criticism. (It's like when somebody says, "I apologized, how dare you still be mad at me!" If your apology is sincere and you're actually sorry, you should understand that the other person has a right to be upset) But if somebody's life is in danger I think that takes precedence and if it's not, that's a fucked up thing to imply in your ukulele song. I don't know, it's messy, I guess...

that's the way I look at things too. Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone has a different starting point in life (i.e. we are products of our environment). As long as someone is making a genuine effort to be a better person than they were yesterday and actually learn from their mistakes, that's a good person in my book.
It makes me sad that so many people (especially in the U.S. for some reason, I think it's that whole hyper-individualism thing) are basically completely incapable of admitting they were wrong because they're so emotionally fragile (I suppose our lack of accessible, affordable mental health care also factors in, huh?). There are millions of people who go basically their _entire lives_ never growing as a person. Can you imagine that!? Can you imagine being the exact same person you were when you graduated high school? What a truly chilling thought 😬

There's also some things that I feel like fall squarely into the category of "not a mistake". Stuff like grooming, which requires so much forethought and intent that you can't really say you made a mistake, so even then, apologizing might not be enough.

There was like 15 seconds of an apology that I'm sure wasn't genuine but was still an apology, she's like "I made mistakes when I was younger because I thought I was just having fun" but yeah the rest of it is just like "you guys are just trying to baselessly cancel me for your own amusement >:[ " If she hadn't sung this and had solely made this just the beginning part where she was just like "Yes I did stuff like send underwear to fans and ask fun questions because I thought it was a fun and quirky and relatable way to interact with my fans, I realize now that was stupid, I'm sorry" that would've been fine. People would still hate her but that would've been an okay apology.

I don't think she's an actual PDF file, or anything. But when your fans are minors, you really should have some pretty strict boundaries, like not being in group chats with them, or very strictly moderating it, so that there is no inappropriate behaviour.
Not saying you CAN'T be friends with fans, but there is a very clear power dynamic in play, and you need to keep that in mind.
When I was younger (like 18 to mid-20s), I was in various game-specific group chats with a bunch of people we grouped with well, in-game. It was a thing. And we became friends with a decent number of them, and carried them over to other games that we played. Some of them jokingly called me grandma, because I was one of the oldest people in the group.
When one of them would end up hitting on me, I would give them one warning. "You're like my little bro, and this is really inappropriate. If you keep this up, I will have to block you." I only ended up having to block a few people, in all of that time.
But, y'know, I bet their parents REALLY wouldn't have approved of that kind of talk, and it puts me in a really awkward position, being the ADULT. As the ADULT, I had to be the one to take responsibility, and distance myself, if necessary.

2:46 THAT it’s so contrived. Like her persona has always been highly curated and I’m not talking about Miranda, I’m talking about Colleen. The only time she appears authentic is when she’s being creepy, racist, or mean. But that face? The puppy dog eyes, the “gosh-guys” pursed lipped smile, and the “I’m-sorry-for-being-the-real-victim-here” eyebrow raise is so smug-…I can’t. I "love" when people say, "I took accountability" as if _they_ get to determine what accountability looks like and whether they've done enough to make up for what they did. The thing is, taking accountability means accepting direction from the people you've harmed and disappointed. It means recognizing that the trauma you've caused may last a lifetime and it will never be completely in your past. It means accepting that some people will never forgive you, but you want change because it's the right thing to do, not because you want everyone to like you. It's HARD. But, paradoxically, if you can do it, you will feel like a burden has been lifted. It takes more energy to convince people you are a good person than to just be a good person.
