Dear Summer Rayne, I am already a huge fan of your "Plant One on Me"-channel, but I love, love, LOVE this new one. It is such a delight to follow you and your friends along in your decision making progress and I can't wait to see what you're going to create together. I wish you all the best for your new property! :-)
hahah. Well I guess you are invested since you've invested your time to watch. hehe. Also I think that means is that you can feel our pain when we lost something we liked! Thanks for watching. And yes, hopefully many, many teas on that deck (when it's not snowing or blazing sun)! - SRO
I love the decisive-meticulous combo. Sometimes we just need people to give us a push and pull us back so we can find that balance in life! Love this kind of chat session!
I so needed to see this. 35 years ago, my husband and I started looking for our biggest property to restore. We wanted an old house and he wanted a barn. It took a year of “close; no cigar”, “are we being too picky?” And “ maybe there’s just nothing out there” before we found it. And it was great for 30 years. As we hit our 70’s, we decided to sell and rent for a while as pandemic prices were so high. We are now looking again, and I find myself going through the same process. I’d love to know where we are going to land, but I know I can’t force it. Paul’s advice is exactly what I need to remember. Of course, if we were much younger, I would want to be up near you guys! But older siblings means we will choose to be close to them. Maybe in my next life!
I just found your channel and watching the vid Sander made of the Barnshill (?) property, before you said what your Dad said, I said to myself, "I wouldn't want to plow THAT driveway", LOL. Plus the ravine to the left going up to that house....nope. I would have nightmares! Enjoying the channel - I'm much older than all of you and always thought it would be fun to do something like you all are doing but never did - life led me in another direction. It will be fun and interesting to watch how you all get along with this project and I wish you the best of luck!
Regarding the first house and the conservation easement...the bright side is the house is still very well protected, AND you chose a place in the area that had less restrictions, and will still be morally responsible with it. SO a less safe property was closed off from bad business while another remains safe. This project is very cool and perfect for the region. So glad you are up here!
I have been smiling and laughing and talking along during this whole conversation. I felt like I was sitting in the room with you guys. This was like the most awesome therapy session - property searching is EMOTIONALLY EXHAUSTING. Kudos to Sander for being the type of guy who gets it. I cannot wait to see what you guys come up with. From someone who lived in Brooklyn for 6 years (serious apartment envy BTW) I know you will totally appreciate this opportunity to go nuts with nature. Now you will have to excuse me while I go plan my weekend of making suet and building a bird feeding station (it's addicting!) OH! And also, you should swear more in your videos. Love it. -
Hey Monica, thank you so much for writing in-and very glad you resonate with these videos and felt comfortable with us :).... And I'm with you making DIY birdfeeders. In the beginning of winter, it was peanut butter slathered on pine cones and dressed in seeds!
I have just recently happened upon your channel and really love it! I live an hour away and have been a frequent visitor to the Ithaca area since the 70's. The last 6 or 7 years I've dreamt of moving to the surrounding area and have looked at a dozen places and have struck out. Who knows maybe it will happen some day because I've always felt I belonged there. Thanks for all the information you have provided and the way you describe and interview is wonderful! I only wish I had a plan like you guys when I was your age. :)
Love this channel, I know Sander from the motion design world and I've watched Summer's Plant One on Me YT channel. So this is the perfect combination! Really excited about your journey!
This was interesting..and I enjoyed your stories on the path of finding your property. The one property, with the gas company able to access to dig...it's good that that one fell through for you. Not only could the company come and dig up everything...ruining all your work in gardening and maintenance, but I also thought of gas lines, which could leak and something bad happens. The first property was beautiful...but wasn't meant to be...and the one you finally bought is perfect for you. It's gorgeous! Good luck and all the best to all of you and your future plans. :)
Yeah, things have a funny way of working out. One of the reasons why we weren't looking in neighboring Pennsylvania (my home state) was because of all the hydraulic fracturing and gas lines. My dad lives in one of the most fracked counties. If anything, the first one serves as inspiration. They ended up getting that property when there were 50 and then moving it forward from there. I am in touch with that previous owner (we love her) and hope to spend more time with her after the pandemic. - SRO
these videos of your beginnings are so good! not only are they informative,! but it's great to be "in the loop" with you all and a part of your adventure🤙🏾😉
After the heartache and stress you absolutely found the right property ~ you have such a diverse topography there that it makes it dynamic, with such potential for many different uses and applications. You could never get bored. The house is also so beautiful inside and out ~ that picturesque view from the huge windows and raised veranda over to the lake is incredible, and it looks built to a high spec...love the design. Also, maybe the land chose you too!
I believe it's hard to make a decision in groups but having a leader as smart sharp strong and self confident as Summer makes it easier .Show you another aspect of the concern and solving the problem is another asset someone can have . I'm very proud of you guys👏👏👏❤🥰
Congrats on going the distance and finding your dream homestead. Of course the dream is still evolving and this is the fun of it. The pond and view from the house is awesome! I will so enjoy following this adventure... Blessings on your Journey of Love
Hi Elisabeth, thanks for your note. We're so stoked. And agree: this is just the beginning and we're so stoked. Thanks for being a part of the journey. - SRO
You two went to the real real estate university and it paid off. In the Toronto area people drive over an hour to get to work as a normal thing. In Manitoba it can be less but you still have to point the car and you will get where you are going. The Finger Lake area is gorgeous and you just show there are so many things to consider especially in a rural setting. Nice of you to credit your Dad for knowing about clearing driveways, as you have found out since, snow removal is a real thing and it is different every winter. When I saw your title I thought you were having second thoughts about your present property and I was so glad to see I was wrong that you really had come to the right property that will keep you busy for a very long time.
Hi Ralph, thanks for your thoughtful note. Yeah, we are SO HAPPY with everything. As the previous owners had mentioned, they felt it 'was meant to be'.... We're really looking forward to getting stuck in some more. And even with the snow, we love it. Have an incredible day and thanks for watching. :) - SRO
I just discovered both of your youtube channels and have really been enjoying them. thank you for sharing your buying experience. the property you found looks beautiful.
I love these vids, I always play them at least twice, the second times as podcasts, but you guys are such eye candy and it's like the perfect cherry on top of this awesome content ❤✨
I completely understand this video. We are coming up on year 3 😭 and all prices have gone up $200,000+. We put in 4 offers last summer and we up against multiple offers and even offered over asking price and still lost out. It looks like we are priced right out of the market now 😭😭😭😭 We have sold our own home and are stuck renting. 💔💔💔 We cant get anything over 7 acres for under $850,000 within 1.5 hours from the city. Your property there would be well over 1.6 million here. We are crying about the very first one we lost - several more after that. Its hard to accept 10 acres when we almost had 80acres for less money.
This is so true...I have some experience as buyers and sellers and the emotional aspect of the whole process is tough. Your analogy of dating or trying on a dress is spot on. I wish I had his knowledge of how to research so well. I loved this video!
Thanks for writing in. Glad you liked the analogies! It was a long ramp up in the real estate space, but we're grateful that it wasn't a HUGE incline. Just a long one.
I have been going thru this for almost 3 years now.....it's tuff....and it's good to hear how it went for others ...thanks for sharing. I'm a bit less hopeful recently since prices have been so high...but I keep looking.....we have a hard time just deciding where we want to go since we aren't tied to a location.
i find these conversational chats the most enjoyable! as a kid i remember the very popular doris day song "que sera sera" and i always thought that sucked. i much prefer the old saying "chance favors the prepared mind"!
That's so funny that this lovely woman is "an older version" of Summer Rayne - I've thought of Summer as an echo of my younger self - and I've said this to my hubby in the past. That's a good thing - lives have meaning, we are here to contribute something and there are parallel existences - these feelings are a hint of the echoes within the web of being. Warmest regards Jennie
Thank you so much for making plant one on me and these videos I am only 13 but my room is a jungle and I have learned so much from you guys! Thank you!!
Hello Summer, from Toronto, Canada ! I enjoyed hearing your property hunting stories and research. Some crazy easement/gas situations. In the end you have a beautiful property and house and what is meant to be will be. ❤
Had no idea the amount of time, energy and work that went into this, I like how it became a 1:1 analogy for relationships and Sander kinda got cold feet before the wedding aha This was fascinating, these vids can help a lot of people down the line. I wish i was looking for acres far away from everything...
I think lots of folks go through similar emotions, though I don't know if people in general put so much time and energy into doing the level of research that we were doing. That definitely has a downside because you find yourself getting really attached the more and more you research. - SRO
We’ve gone through the exact thing this past fall and winter looking in Maine and NH. Properties were either bought as we were on our way to them or they were not as they were listed. Ravines were considered slopes. Or rolling hills were small alps. We finally found almost perfect property with stream in back flowing into the Androscoggin river in Maine. People are desperate to buy away from city but we wanted a state with no taxes after living in RI for 40 years. We will also be spending most of our time in Italy.
Our friend Paul is in Maine (we mentioned him on this channel) and he was surprised even up that way how people were coming out from Boston and other areas looking right around the areas you were looking. I hope you got something to your liking! Glad this was relatable. - SRO
@17:30 Got our Tree from there.. Love the area, not driving around in the heart of Ithaca itself though... lol The surrounding areas are really nice, grew up in Elmira and now live in the country between Horseheads and Millport, it's nice to be close to town but have your own space. Love your vids.
thought it's my phone ringing, i have the same ring tone 😉 love nature, plants and bird watching as well, always carry some seeds with me to have some food for them. all the best from berlin, FFL will be magic ✨💫
I found the PERFECT property for my dream right after I started looking. South facing, 640 acres, 2 constant springs, 2 seasonal springs, 1/2 mile wide, 1 mile long valley. Heavily forested with big doug fir. Last logged in 1931. $210,000. Told myself to wait, because there's no way I could have found the right one right away. It's 4 years later now, and I lost what could have been my own personal paradise to a logging company. Went out to the bottom of the valley to look at the property and see what they'd done so far. My dream property is now a clearcut wasteland.
It's a relief that those hard exams are done. Beautiful photography but so many virtual brick walls out in the country. So much learned! Thanks for sharing that. Ah, oops , we got ed(j)umacated again. Enjoy life after 😐Life.😊
I’m so glad you guys finally landed on a nice spot 😊 This reminded me of when my husband & I were just looking for a place to live with 2 other housemates. There was a lot of deep conversations, people dropping out or coming in last minute, crazy policies (like more than one female w/one dude made it a brothel?), meeting really weird potential landlords/ladies, the logistics of it all... 🤪 In retrospect, I’m just relieved found a place & made it out of that rut alive!
haha. Oh my, sounds like quite the experience! I mean, none of this is particularly easy, but I can definitely say it's a character builder and has brought us all closer together.
Makes me not want to look this year, especially with the insane house prices right now. Ugh, so much stress and y'all dealt with SO MUCH. Looks like the place ended up being a great fit though. Glad y'all are there! Two of the coolest people I found from the pandemic!
Hey Nick, you're so sweet. And yes, we got caught in the Pre-Pandemic phase and Post-Pandemic phase and it was a totally different experience. I'd still look but know that it's like a raging sprint.
Open construction, lots of wood, at least one skylight, heated floors, a deck overlooking lovely green pastures & a pond? Did you say 60 acres? Did I miss the part where you guys tell how well you'd haggled & then mentioned the final price?
As sad as it is that the first property didn’t work out; it sounds like it helped you to be more rational about finding the property that’s right got you: how exciting !
Hi Gail, it's very true. It not only helped us become more decisive, but it served as a source of inspiration for us of what's possible. We're very close with the former owner of that land and looking forward to hanging out with her post-pandemic. She was a very special woman. Thanks for writing in!
Thanks for sharing. Good video! You captured your experience nicely. The emotional roller coaster. The importance of having a shopping check list. The difficulty of shopping remotely, thought it sounds like Sander already moved into the area to help search. I am curious about that missing element of the story … when did Sander move into the area? Did he rent a place? If you can reply and add some detail on that, I would appreciate learning from your experience. Finally … have you ever considered a consulting business … helping other people do what you did?
Sander moved here about a year before (renting), so he was the boots on the ground here and would see the land first. Very helpful. Not sure we would do a consulting business on top of our careers and the two YT channels. So tough to fit it all in. But hopefully these videos are educational and useful for most.
@@summerrayneoakes Thanks for your kind reply. Yes, your UA-cam videos are helpful. We find the content useful and production quality high. A good team effort!
I am really enjoying your videos ... I have also had a journey trying to buy my forever home ... It started with one I absolutely fell in love with , and missed out due to another faster offer , we then found some more that were ok , but no where near as good as the first .. then came along another that we could make do , but our offer was declined due to a higher offer than ours , some more blah ones in between ... then by chance i found another , it wasn't in my ideal location, but it had everything else I was looking for , infrastructure wise ... so due to the pandemic , we couldn't see it in person ( lockdown and all ) , so the real estate agent did a very grainy video call to us ... we decided to leave it to the hands of god , and if were meant to be then it would turn out .. well we bought it , and it took 6 months for us to be permitted to travel to actually see what we had bought , we were either going to love it or hate it BUT .... it is so beautiful , so much better than we could ever have imagined , and so so perfect, even better than the first property !!! ... sometimes you just have to have faith that things happen for a reason
Thank you for the video. I would love to buy property up there. Did not realize all the issues that are involved. I have seen the mineral rights issue.
I had to remind myself that they were talking about land and not actual relationships haha. At 7:18 I thought that Sander had to walk out because he was about to cry or something LOL
Fascinating conversation. I definitely connect with this, as I had an opportunity to buy several acres surrounding my parents property up near the Cabinet Mountain Wilderness. I love visiting up there and seeing all the beautiful western red cedars -- google Ross Creek Cedars if you're interested in getting an idea of the area. I wanted to buy those properties and protect the forested land on the parcels, I think it was 5 acres that would connect to my parents' 2. I think the total purchase price would have been $35K, but I passed on it. Now, both parcels have been purchased and the people do the common practice... hire loggers to clear cut the parcel to get a percentage of the revenue from the lumber, where western red cedar are a very valuable timber.
Ross Creek Cedars. Wow. The trees are big and gorgeous. I love big trees like that. Can't imagine cutting them down. They have so much energy. Our forest here is still quite young, as I believe it had been logged in the 1960s. We'll be very old and gray when we get big trees. And they'll never be as big as the ones out west!
So, I’m still in the bargaining stage of grief for your first property: since only agricultural buildings were allowed, who’s to say you couldn’t build a heated greenhouse that just happened to have a kitchen area, or potting area if you must, and a bathroom for the agricultural workers, and a bedroom in case they need to do night shifts taking care of tropical plants :-)
OMG we TOTALLY know what you're talking about. AND BELIEVE US when we say we were running through EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE SCENARIOS and running them through FLLT. But Alas, we wouldn't even be able to do a little tea house or even an observatory to the stars. Or even a tiny cabin in the woods off-grid. Basically anything over a tent was impossible to do. At the end of the day, when you're pouring all of your life savings into a piece of land that will be your forever home, you don't want to have big brother slapping your wrist and moving you off your land when you want to get closer to the stars.
I bought some land in February 2020 and when I was looking, there was plenty to choose from. I still have the filter saved on the website. Now, there is no land to match my criteria. It is crazy.
We also can't believe how fast things went! It was such a mad dash....Made us very uncomfortable since we were so slow, methodic, and thorough in our research.
God knows what you want and find you a beautiful huges property and this is it so Amazing so beautiful property for Dream Garden like in Singapore that you visit nothing Impossible by God your group have a good heart congrats Miss Summer and Mr. Sander.
Hi summer, we’re also at fingerlake . U guys have beautiful place. Live 45 minutes from ur area. Traders joe moves in downtown, ithaca. Feels like in nyc.
Hi summer n sander , I live in small town name horseheads for 30 years. We also live in Manhattan, commute often between here n city. That’s how I relate to u guys. So funny, I an actually water your plants if I’m in the city. Lol. I follow your vlog cuz imcrazy with houseplants too but not the variety u have. If u need any help, let me know. I volunteer myself n my husband. Lol, btw, I’m impressed on how u know ur houseplants generic name. It comes naturally,
Haha. SO GLAD it feels like therapy for you. Our NEW editor for Plant One On Me and his gf are currently also looking for property and these videos have been good coaching sessions they said. Glad it's helpful.
@@FlockFingerLakes It's excellent. We had a shorter but similarly dramatic journey. At one point, someone tried to sell us a house that was falling off a steep slope (we had to get an engineering report done to get out of the contract). But mostly it was all the ones that got away before we started showing up the first hour of the listing and going aggressive on our offers. The national housing shortage due to COVID is making real estate a blood sport.
When I have kids, I want to name them Summer Sunshine, Winter Solstice, Autumn Leaves, Celly Dean and Clory Phill(name for the twins) and Walter, Wilbur and Wheaton(boy triplet names).
That is true best friends did not mean nothing by that. It's nice to see you two talk together the way you do. So happy for you guys and that you are great friends. Many blessings this year's !
It’s been great getting to know Sander in these chats!
glad he's comfortable making some more cameos. - SRO
@Hunter Emory Note: Don’t not go to Flixzone it is a data mining scam. Bad bots!
I realize I'm kinda randomly asking but does anyone know of a good place to stream new series online?
@Zayn Dominick Flixportal =)
@Kayden Hank Thanks, signed up and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it!!
You two... honestly look cute together.....
Two crazy plant persons working together. So cute!
You gotta work with people you get along with!

I feel like I very invested in your property already. Lol. This is so fun watching. That deck overlooking the water with a tea. Oh my word!!!💗💗💗

I can’t imagine you with a different property. So glad it’s yours.
I´m obsessed with this new channel! I love that we get to see Sander a lot more and I hope that we get to see you three together in a video soon 😄
Thanks Dixi. We hope so too! Thank you for writing in :)
Big sibling energy between you two! :)

I don’t know how I missed this one, very interesting to see your journey to finding and buying this property.
we are getting so much from this channel lately, i might start looking at properties at 20 years old lol
I am 18, and yes ! Relatable!
Never hurts to start looking! I wish we had started looking earlier :) - SRO
I love the comparisons between trying to make a property work for you and making a bad relationship work for you X•D

Glad this was relatable Glenda! Thank you for watching.
Love this area, two of our five kids were born in Ithaca! Congratulations on finding the right property. It will be fun to follow what you do here!
It's great you 3 had each other to deal with such a difficult event...buying land.
Can't stop saying this-but wouldn't know what to do without my guys! - SRO
well, much success to the team!
I think you guys made the right choice. I love the house.
This was a great watch thank you! That property with the gas lease looked gorgeous!
They had a beautiful outlook for sure. But that lease, yo. So complicated. :/
@@FlockFingerLakes Yeah no kidding! I am finishing up my phd in paleontology/geology and I wouldn't want to navigate a lease like that either!
I'm glad Sander settled for the 30 minute distance. That's a very common work commute time for folks who live in the metropolitan area of BC, Canada!
Congratulations on your final collective decision it is a beautiful property blend and share your dreams with Mother Earth 🌎
I loved this! Wow, what a stressful journey to finally get what was meant for you!
It was. By the universe has a way of working things out :)
Crazy Inspired By You! Thank You so much for sharing your journey. 💜🙏💜
i find these conversational chats the most enjoyable! as a kid i remember the very popular doris day song "que sera sera" and i always thought that sucked. i much prefer the old saying "chance favors the prepared mind"!
you are all amazing and this property is beautiful. I love what you’re doing with it
Thanks so much Becca. We''re just beginning!
Warmest regards
Jennie
Thank you so much for making plant one on me and these videos I am only 13 but my room is a jungle and I have learned so much from you guys! Thank you!!
Oh you're so welcome. Thanks for making yourself known and so thrilled they've been helpful. - SRO
Thank you so much for sharing all your thoughts! Greetings from a viewer in Denmark
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello Summer, from Toronto, Canada !
I enjoyed hearing your property hunting stories and research. Some crazy easement/gas situations. In the end you have a beautiful property and house and what is meant to be will be. ❤
Hi Linda, so nice to hear from you. Yes, we're so thrilled it ended up the way it ended up!
I am new to the channel and love it! I am local to Ithaca and know how fast these properties go. Thanks for sharing your experience!
Had no idea the amount of time, energy and work that went into this, I like how it became a 1:1 analogy for relationships and Sander kinda got cold feet before the wedding aha
This was fascinating, these vids can help a lot of people down the line.
I wish i was looking for acres far away from everything...
I think lots of folks go through similar emotions, though I don't know if people in general put so much time and energy into doing the level of research that we were doing. That definitely has a downside because you find yourself getting really attached the more and more you research. - SRO
the period after Ep is back!
Sander is dreamy 😍
thought it's my phone ringing, i have the same ring tone 😉 love nature, plants and bird watching as well, always carry some seeds with me to have some food for them. all the best from berlin, FFL will be magic ✨💫
Lmao I love you X) “That’s our emotional baggage released onto you” (42.55=time)
A gold mine of 'what to look for' info for potential buyers.
Character building - yes! A positive spin in always crucial 😊
Great video again:) love for sharing
Makes me not want to look this year, especially with the insane house prices right now. Ugh, so much stress and y'all dealt with SO MUCH. Looks like the place ended up being a great fit though. Glad y'all are there! Two of the coolest people I found from the pandemic!
Hey Nick, you're so sweet. And yes, we got caught in the Pre-Pandemic phase and Post-Pandemic phase and it was a totally different experience. I'd still look but know that it's like a raging sprint.
❤️😀 enjoyed the journey.....
Good stuff
Hahaha. Luckily we worked through the worst of the emotions already before this video, so no crying! Just some leftover pangs. :)
Wonderful sharing of your experiences and schema! Where are you filming from?😊
I bought some land in February 2020 and when I was looking, there was plenty to choose from.
What Finger Lake are you on? And yes, can you believe it? Trader Joe's. Bizarre. So many good places to shop. We are Greenstar Coop members :)
It comes naturally,
Currently in the process of purchasing a house on 1 acre (huge for us) in Northern NJ. This feels like group therapy.
Summer will you eventually leave your apartment and live here full time?
When I have kids, I want to name them Summer Sunshine, Winter Solstice, Autumn Leaves, Celly Dean and Clory Phill(name for the twins) and Walter, Wilbur and Wheaton(boy triplet names).
Can you show the whole interior of the house?
Did Sander do the concept drawings for the potential homesites? I'd be interested in how that was done.
Yes. Just cutting and pasting and a little photoshop magic.
You guys look so cute talking together. Is there something there ? I know you guys are so happy with you be life there. But ...I see something
Well, we are all best of friends and we hope it stays that way through our journey! - SRO
That is true best friends did not mean nothing by that. It's nice to see you two talk together the way you do. So happy for you guys and that you are great friends. Many blessings this year's !
He could be my brother with how much we look alike
