    i like how desert dream was unintentionally remixed tons of times because of this demo

      I feel like I know just about every part of the Desert Dream demo after watching it so many times.

    I must have seen just about every port of this demo now. All it needs now is to be ported to the Amiga, C64, Amstrad CPC and ZX Spectrum and I think that will be the lot (if they haven't already been done of course)

    The demo itself went so slow that the entire Desert Dream music played.

    Truly remarkable to a tech demo, if the GBC was installed with Intel processor chip, running with opengl32, it might be possible to run in 3d. Now, I would like to see this running on Nintendo DS in actual 3d

    Very interesting demo indeed, this is a game boy colour? It has elements of Atari 8 bit and C64, sounds like sid and pokey for the music.

      The 3d isn't 3d. Its pre calculated and the screen is divided into the 2d areas, per frame.
      The system then just fills in the shapes with a pre defined colour as quick as possible.
      In other words you couldn't control the camera or do anything dynamic

      It's basically like playing a video file. Everything is prerendered.

      @@camthesaxman3387 I keep thinking that I've heard that the 3D geometry in STNICCC is rendered in real time, but everything's pre-calculated, like it already knows exactly which polygons are visible on each frame, so it only shows a limited set of them at any given time. (This can be seen during the credits; Polygons only suddenly appear as soon as they're supposed to become visible.)
      If everything in this demo was a pre-rendered video (like, say, Toy Story Racer's GBC version with its track "videos"), that would be very disappointing to me, as I expect STNICCC to be pre _calculated_ but not pre-rendered. The credits make me think that it can't just be a video or series of pre-constructed frames, because if that was the case, there'd have to be two videos in the ROM, one in color and the other using wireframe polygons.

      ​​@@XaneMyersthe key point here is that the precalc flattens the 3d scene into a list of 2d polygons, which are then drawn in realtime, in list-order, think 'Another World' style cutscenes. Not a video, but there are limits to what can change in realtime.
