It's really immersion breaking when the supposedly obsessed, we-are-fated-soulmates kind of character (in content that by design is meant to make you feel special and one of a kind) tells you about all the other soulmates she was obsessing over throughout the years and that you're just next in line 🤣 That's the one kind of yandere I'd actually do everything in my power to escape from.

Around 10:30 she starts asking why people even like the idea of Yanderes, and the answer I've come up for on my own time is that we subconsciously are drawn to the idea of someone being obsessively in love with us, because we feel like nobody else might love us otherwise. Idk, it's probably not this way for some people, and other people may read this and have a crisis of some kind as they question their tastes, but that's what I've found for myself
I think the kidnapping thing is also important. If you're fed up and burned out with work, school, etc., the idea of being forcibly taken away from all that and never having to worry about it again sounds pretty nice. Doubly so if your peers/family are part of the stress, for example someone who is bullied or doesn't like their family. Now, obviously the biggest reason that ASMRtists do the kidnapping thing is because it immediately establishes a character as yandere with almost no work, so they can focus on other parts of the character. But I think the escapism that kidnapping gets you is a big part of why the genre is so popular. Especially during the covid era, when a lot of people were realizing they hated their jobs, were forced to move back in with their parents, or otherwise just wanted to escape from it all.
Yeah, been through this plenty if times. Escaped them all. Haven't had to un-alive one of my captors in 6 months. But moving on, I have a list of tiers for yandere.
