I have done that and it works. I also have the top part covered that is not used jet just on a regular. If you have trouble wrapping it you can actually cut the cling film roll in half or how ever long you want with a sharp knife. this way it´s easier to wrap around the leaves. I have also covered the whole thing including leaves with a clear plastic, I used a painters cover sheet that was completely clear. It didn´t seem to create much condesation on the plastic and all leaves where fine after 2 weeks vacation. for the last vacation I got a automatic watering pump for my mosspoles :D
You could of also put a water bottle with a small hole in the lid so it was just a drip coming through, upside down on the top of the moss pole.
