@@HuntersMoon Thank you for making such great quality historical videos! It's totally awesome that you take your time and it shows with high quality content. Keep it up dude, your channel is probably one of my favorites in the last couple of years and I assume that I'm not alone. Every time I find one of your videos dropping, I'll actually drop everything to watch one of your videos. Don't change anything. I like it all so far.
There is a movie called 'American Speed' in development which is about the Whittington Brothers. One thing that got missed was the DEA case against WorldJet got dropped. It turns out that one of their other clients was the CIA.
That "one guy", for anyone curious, is John Ficarra, who told a slightly less all-inclusive, but still very interesting version of this story on the VINwiki channel. He's one of my favourite storytellers, and I recommend anyone who doesn't know about him to watch the video where he tells the story of LeMans 1965.
Patreon when? You can easily make a career out of this dude. Excellent editing, writing, production. You have a signature style & sound. It's all there. Just have to give a full year of working at only this.
My dad funded his racing career with the proceeds of selling illicit substances back in the 70s and 80s. He actually held a record at pike’s peak. Think it was engine class. He did it in a ford capri with a cosworth motor. He also took Porsches and vettes up there too
Statute of limitations dude.... It don't matter... I'm retired now too I used to sell 50-80# of hydroponic bud a week in SoCal to medical dispensaries for a year and a half working with cartel members on this side...picked up a few tons total outdoor originating in the San Bernardino forests in the time as well. 12 kilos of coke too... Wish I would have saved the money. I laundered most of it through my own business paying taxes legitimately on actual amounts made using cash receipts thru my drafting business I also made custom gun parts too and sold some guns illegally... Statute of limitations is great. I did 3 yrs in prison for marijuana sales but conviction is since overturned .. Just saying. It's all public record and it's non issue as it's over 20yrs ago for most part. Nothing within the last 10. Cheers 🎉😂

ok, this made a BUNCH of things make sense from my high school days... the 'guy' i used to 'get' from called it 'whittington weed' and i am NOT kidding... 84-89 i think.. but.. if i knew this, then it would make sense that i DON'T remember!!

Thanks for this video. It's good to have you creating new content. Always great videos you are producing. The '70s and '80s were wild years. I was born in '65 in Los Angeles and lived about a mile from the beach next to LAX Airport with Marina Del Rey on the other side . Lots of money lots of drugs lots of money being made from drugs. From '84 after graduation from high school in '83 a couple of my friends and I made a bunch of money, nothing even close to these guys in this video but we had a couple of hot rods each motorcycles, we snow skiid and played golf and surfed in Hawai'i and Mexico and Fiji, we spent almost every night of the week at nightclubs and after hours speakeasy clubs, we had lots of girls and ate at top restaurants in LA, we turned heads everywhere we went because we would drive up in our '67 Chevelles and '67 Camaros , we had one hard top and one convertible each, my roommate had the Camaros and I had the Chevelles, motors were street racing built running on aviation fuel and thundering down the streets we had crazy sound systems in them before people were doing that to cars, especially not White Boys but we wanted to hear music above the noise of the race motors. The valets at the restaurants and clubs loved our cars and we always had hot girls with us. Then we started working in the adult entertainment industry my roommate as a graphic artist for video and magazine company and I worked in a notorious strip club one of the largest in LA. One of my sisters worked for Playboy in the executive offices and I became a VIP Bunny Head tie pin holder. Those were the days. I turned 30 in '95 and moved out of LA without telling anyone because I could feel the heat and noticed strange things happening that meant I had too many things going on and becoming too well known. Gave it all up and moved away and became anonymous. I didn't tell people about my life before my moving where I ended up. A couple people had seen photos in my house and wondered how I was able to get concert tickets with backstage passes for almostt any concert and how come I had a lot of Playboy items, various things like golf tees and ball markers and pocket knives and t shirts and picture of Hugh Hefner and I arms around each other with drinks in our hands and pictures of me and playmates and one of my exes who was in Playboy and acted on one of the more famous daytime soap operas on tv.. My life slowed down a bit but it has been wild still, not like it was in the '80s and '90s.
I've been waiting for a new Hunters Moon video for ages and it just happens to be about one of my favorite motorsports stories ever! Keep up the great work love this channel!
Great to see a new Hunter's Moon. All your documentaries are top quality and highly entertaining. I love them and watch them as soon as i get the notification. Thank you.
Classic Reagan’s shining city on a hill…the serial wife murderer gets out, lives it up on his yacht, and the guy who imported weed gets life (thank f’ck that got rectified…eventually).
About 15 years ago there was a race team in my area that seemed to have large amounts of money. They came out of nowhere. Well, after a few years they were busted for selling pot and the team immediately disappeared.
I made Ser.#261 in '97 for John Paul Jr at Indy. He was very quiet, soft spoken, and the nicest guy. We briefly discussed my background working on the deep-V ocean racing boats in Ft. Lauderdale/Pompano Beach in the '80s, but he indicated that his involvement wasn't something he wanted...tons of remorse was obvious. I told him that everyone understood and not to worry about it...he smiled and seemed relieved. Growing up doing some amateur racing and teaching in SoFla myself, we had a lot in common. I really liked working with him on his steering wheels. He was very cooperative in sorting the design over time...he enjoyed remolding the grips until they were perfect. Godspeed, JP Jr., Sir.
I am kind of annoyed this channel doesnt have more subs given the absolute top tier level of the content. I hope hunter earns a good living off his efforts on this channel. It is superb.
When the whittington brothers were liquidating my dad almost bought one of their enclosed racecar trailers, they were pretty big in the southeast USA drag racing scene
I met Don Whittington while I was working at Ft. Lauderdale executive airport about a dozen or so years ago. He was a feisty, take no shit kind of fella. I couldn’t help but admire the qualities of someone like that. Not condoning what he did but he had the guts to go out there in life and do what he wanted regardless of the consequences.
What a heck of a coincidence!! Today I was outside absorbing some UV when I heard some round motors flying overhead. It was a DC3 pretty high up. In the early 80s we moved to Snellville and several nights a week I would hear a pair of radials flying south. It amazed me that somebody was still using a DC3 for regular cargo hauling. I guess my house was directly south of Road Atlanta !!
We had a similar case in Portugal, with a team using racing both for money laundry and to smuggle drugs hidden on racing cars and spare parts shipped from above.
Yes! Excellent story that I’ve read about many times. Living in Florida and working for many different race teams. I’ve heard a lot of old timers. Talk about this stuff. Thank you for sharing the content. Great editing job.
I wish you uploaded more, but it would make your videos less special. It’s like a holiday when you upload. Happens very rarely, but is always appreciated. Nice vid
Hi, i ve seen the Newsweek Paul 935 JLP Racing a few years ago at a german vintage car dealer. After a little research i found out that it was one of the smuggler car.
Crime In Sports podcast did a story on randy lenier a couple of years ago IIRC. it's two comedians that do a true crime podcast centered around sports stars who "screw it up" in the end, a LOT of fun to listen to! and the research is deep so you really get a good story.
Honey wake up!! Hunter’s moon is back without banger. Never leave us for this long again 😭 the light was starting to leave our lives. I’d gladly pay for a Patreon, or a members account on this channel if you had the time / were able and willing to post some shorter, easier to make content or whatever you like really. Even just talking about what directly interests you in the auto world would be cool! Thanks for another great video in a sea of Ai slop nonsense that’s quickly consuming the car / motogp side of UA-cam.
Johnny was such a good guy. As much as people didn't want to deal with the Pirate they loved Johnny who could drive anything fast. I was wondering if you would cover a super interesting point on the Whittington's but you didn't so obviously didn't have that part. Pablo in my old IROC, that's an interesting story :)
Now at 70 years of age this brings me back to the 1970s. I made a lot of money selling pot back in the day. I used it to finance my way to a stable and permanent income. I made enough and walked away. These guys didn't know when to stop.
Such an underrated channel, every time I listen, I want to go finance a bad decision
Fucking right
I have this same problem making the videos!

If we all chip in we can get 3% of a racing team and 100% bad decisions along the way 😂
This video and the story of monster Tajima gave me hope to one day run the pikes peak after my 40's (30 ATM)
Man, their story is just really wild it needs to be a movie. As one guy once said it's like "Boogie Nights meets Days of Thunder."
I agree and if i'm honest,it's like something straight out of a movie only it actually happened and it's not a fiction.

Yeah, i really would not put out information like this on the internet.

Just went on a binge watch of these videos last night and now a new one is out in the morning.
imagine all the lives lost over a drug that never killed anybody.
I know so many people who "don't do drugs" yet they consume a MUCH more dangerous drug than cannabis called alcohol lol

Honestly some of the best car vids on the internet. Kudos to another great video 🍻🥂
I was a drug runner in Australia in late 90s,, 9000km was a regular round trip run
When the whittington brothers were liquidating my dad almost bought one of their enclosed racecar trailers, they were pretty big in the southeast USA drag racing scene
Again another banger with the best voice on UA-cam!
You forgot to mention Whittingtons K3 tricks like HOLE, and weirdly fast refuelling in LeMans. John Ficarra told W brothers story on VIN wiki.
Saw that one and it's a very nice telling of W brothers story.
Also the hidden nitrous bottles in the A pillar
John Ficarra is one of my favourite storytellers, but I'm still watching this one, since I like Hunter's content.
Video I've been waiting for your view on 1980s Drug Smuggler turned Racers

Hunter's Moon IS BACK BABY
