  • Jim Bowden joins CBS Sports HQ to discuss the MLB adding Negro Leagues stats to record books.
    Major League Baseball has officially incorporated Negro Leagues statistics into the Major League record, the league announced Wednesday. MLB elevated the Negro Leagues to "Major League" status in 2020 and recognized the "statistics and records" of approximately 3,400 players who played in the Negro Leagues between 1920-48. Now they are part of the official record.

    I remember reading an article in Sports Illustrated decades ago saying that the statistical records of the Negro Leagues were woefully incomplete and that box scores seldom were published even in the "black newspapers". So what changed? Were a lot of impeccably kept records suddenly found?

    • @Fremen2
      @Fremen2 2 місяці тому +3

      They've always been there. What changed is that the evidence is finally being acknowledged. You don't have a leg to stand on with this issue. Specifically look up what MLB did in the 1969 season in regards to incorporating records from other leagues that existed in the past into the record books. Before you post on any medium make you're properly educated on the matter.

      A three year long research project was undertaken to compile official records, and only those records are included in the incorporated MLB stats. The unofficial and anecdotal accounts of games were not included. So yeah, that Sports Illustrated article from decades ago was accurate as far is it goes, but that was before the extensive research project was undertaken.

      Aaron played for the Clowns in the early 1950s, and they are only accepting the stats from that league from 1920 to 1948. Actually, many players were playing before 1920 and their stats aren’t counted either.
