This is one awesome kit! AMT really knocked the ball out of the park with this one. Built it back in the mid-1990s but never built it stock as it just lent itself to customization. I kept the chassis for several years too after discarding the body following two repaints and the paint stripping that went along with that.
Hey Chris. thanks for the build. Mine had a warped frame so I used a heat gun to warm it up enough to straighten it. I did a lot more detail in the engine and compartment. All in all, a really fun build. I've learned a bunch from you. Thanks
For sure will have to add one of them to our stash my dad worked for union 76 he was a tanker driver though then retired from there so definitely get one of them for a build
This was great Chris, really enjoyed watching you go through the kit and build it. Came out beautiful and made me add this one to the wish list. Keep up the great work. Jeff
I have the Texaco version of this kit, that I’ll be building as a green & black Texaco truck. I’ll be giving it to a local shop I go to. It was a full service Texaco station until ‘85. They’ve been there since 1957. In the Fife Tacoma area of Washington state.
Theystill sale these at Hoby Lobby; just got one last week to build. Just hoping to make it a stock red chevy (like those old red or cyan trucks you always see in fall themes or winter themes, etc.).
I just got done with my Texaco version, with that yellow & black push bumper decal & bumper. The only thing I didn’t like was the size of the kit tires, so I found some spare tires to put on it.
Love it. Could you show us how you do that silver washing technic? That's one of the thing I have 0 clue on how to do it and you do it pretty well. I loved that frame. I like the whole truck too.
I just resently bought this kit along with a 1965 Triumph GT 6 race car. I already had an open car trailer ( see where this is heading)? I do have a question when you mention using a pincel to do highlites or add color what type oh pincel are you using?
Really nice build. Just went and picked this kit up and it looks as good as you said. Really solid kit. Thanks for the video. I’ve been sub’d for a while and will keep following. I watch it with my boys. Thanks again. “J”🇨🇦
Awesome job ,I like your version. I have the 2011 issue with the Texaco decals. how hard was it to put in the glass ,in mine it shows to put the glass in from the outside
Nice review & a great job on your built up kit. I have the original issue of this kit & the Coca cola version & the Texaco version. I like the new optional side boards for the P/U bed included in this version. The decals look to be of a high quality. Thanks for sharing this.
After about 4 hours of drying I'll hit the paint with a model hobby heat gun normally used for applying airplane fabric (not a hairdryer) and warm up the body, I'd guess to about 170+ degrees and the paint just glosses over and smooths itself out like hot butter in a pan. Just keep an eye on small parts, braces or they will warp really fast. You can pull the gun away, let it cool, them hit it again if you want to try again. Then hit it with the cool air setting to harden it up. Let it sit a few hours and you are good. Doesn't work with all glosses, but it usually works well with the sprays I use.
The only things I would do different would be to put an actual wood bumper on it. Same thing with the bed. I have some oak and maple stock just for jobs like that. I have done that before to a truck back in the mid 80's in High School. I love doing stuff like that. I think I will find that kit and do just that. Thanks for the video. Old Guys Rule!!
This version came out very nice!..I love your builds...unkle had a 50 when I was a kid, and that is where I lernt to drive stick...it was dark olive color, but cant find the factory std color..if you happen to know, please send a link..thanks!
Thanks! You should be able to google it and narrow it down. I don't have any links offhand but there are plenty of restoration places that point you to the correct color for each year of vehicle.
I just bought one of these kits yesterday and I watched your review a few more times just to make sure the frame in my kit was covered in flesh and a few other parts where to I never noticed it on yours could this be a bad shot or just not cleaning the molds? ?????
great tips, great information. (again) The engine compartment seems ideal for detailing - have any plans for Eduard or Detail Master sorts of additions?
I normally try to build the kits as they come from the box because they are being reviewed. When I add parts, some people don't pay attention when I say it's not included, they buy the kit and scream at the manufacturer that parts they saw on my review are 'missing' from their kit.
Thanks for the video Chris. Awesome truck. Turned out sweet. I tell you... Your reviews are the best. You always pick some cool kit subjects. I was hoping for a review on this kit and you always come thru. Keep up the great work! May I ask. What camera are you using to do your videos? If focuses very well on all the details. Thanks in advance
Thanks man! Camera is a Canon SX170IS . It wasn't very expensive but it has a tripod mount and films in HD and records in stereo with the press of one button so I'm happy with it. For still pics it has a crazy good zoom as well. It's getting older now and I'm looking for a new one. Hope I can find another good camera that works well.
Hello Sir I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you would do a tutorial on the dashboard of your next Auto or truck using a silver pencil? Thank you for your time Sincerely Allan
Ha, if I can my hands on one of these, there will be a base model 57 Chevy with a straight six and a 1950 Chevy pickup with fuel-injected 283 race motor >:D
This channel is great for seeing what you get in the box. Thanks for doing these videos. I just purchased the model and in doing some research, I am stunned on how correct this kit is. The only real faux pas' I have noticed are the windshield visor (no reinforcing bead was in the original . The bead is in the middle of the visor where the vee is formed) and yet here are pics of a restored one with it: www.lowrider.com/rides/trucks/1504-1950-chevrolet-3100/. The transmission is steel and they were not often painted and the distributor should be black as it was cast iron, not aluminum. Love the detail of this kit. Compared to many that I put together in the 60's, this thing is spot on. Here is the brochure from GM: www.gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm-heritage-archive/historical-brochures/chevrolet-trucks/1954-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf
It is. Since it all lines up easily you could forego gluing the bed and cab down and easily remove both to show off the frame. Just don't forget when you pick it up.
The shop I gave my ‘50 Chevy Texaco truck to, loves the truck. Your build was a big help on me building mine. Thank You.
Glad to help!

Really nice, can't wait to start my build

Beautiful work! I love the look of cars and trucks from the 30's, 40's, and 50's.
Thanks man!
ENHORABUENA,magnífico trabajo
This was great Chris, really enjoyed watching you go through the kit and build it. Came out beautiful and made me add this one to the wish list. Keep up the great work.
Jeff
Thanks Jeff, it's an amazing kit. Pretty much fell together. I was worried about the firewall and inner-fenders but even that slapped together easy.
I'm glad you built this truck. I wasn't sure if i was going to buy it but your build convinced me to get it.
Very cool, thanks!
I wish you would have shown how you mounted the boards onto the bed??

Now I want one. I agree it's nice to see the straight 6.
A great kit!
I’m finding this video of yours very helpful for building my Texaco version. Thank You.
You are welcome!
Very nice to see you straight up the dark and your eyes and I don't want you straight to the dark
Theystill sale these at Hoby Lobby; just got one last week to build.
Just hoping to make it a stock red chevy (like those old red or cyan trucks you always see in fall themes or winter themes, etc.).
Just got one ,going to do the same thing for the wife. She crazy about that truck! Have you started on yours?
I just got done with my Texaco version, with that yellow & black push bumper decal & bumper. The only thing I didn’t like was the size of the kit tires, so I found some spare tires to put on it.

Silver wash?
Do you mean the silver pencil I rub on the high points? Sure, next time I do it, happy to show how.
I bought the original 1994 version of the amt 1950 Chevrolet 3100 truck model kit at an antique mall a couple weeks ago
Love this kit Santa should bring me one, go good with AMT 1/25 ' 50 Chevy Texaco Pickup
I just resently bought this kit along with a 1965 Triumph GT 6 race car. I already had an open car trailer ( see where this is heading)? I do have a question when you mention using a pincel to do highlites or add color what type oh pincel are you using?
Will have to give that brand of paint a try. Turned out super.
Thanks!
Fantastic looking truck and a great build! Really enjoyed watching this one.
Thanks Toby!
My local hobby shop has my name on one of these as soon as they get them in... I can't wait!
Enjoy, thanks Todd!
Do we need glue to make
You've got to be happy with that one Chris, that's a very nice build mate, love it !!
Thanks Gary, it was fun!
Where you able to put the wheels together and then put the tires on? Or did you have to put them together per the instructions?
Very nicely detail, you killed it, awesome build there guy!
Thanks Jeremy!
Food coloring in glue is genus!
Really nice build. Just went and picked this kit up and it looks as good as you said. Really solid kit. Thanks for the video. I’ve been sub’d for a while and will keep following. I watch it with my boys. Thanks again.
“J”🇨🇦
Thanks, enjoy!
Awesome job ,I like your version.
I have the 2011 issue with the Texaco decals.
how hard was it to put in the glass ,in mine it shows to put the glass in from the outside
Glass fits fine. Dry fit it first, make sure, it does go on from the outside. I give a tip in the video.
Nice review & a great job on your built up kit. I have the original issue of this kit & the Coca cola version & the Texaco version. I like the new optional side boards for the P/U bed included in this version. The decals look to be of a high quality. Thanks for sharing this.
Everything was nice, spent about 5 minutes on flash, decals worked perfectly.
I like how both inbox review and reveal go together in one video. This is the only channel that does this.
Thanks!
Right on Replicas also does that.
Absolutely gorgeous truck Chris! Tell me how you are using the heat gun to get such a beautiful finish please?
After about 4 hours of drying I'll hit the paint with a model hobby heat gun normally used for applying airplane fabric (not a hairdryer) and warm up the body, I'd guess to about 170+ degrees and the paint just glosses over and smooths itself out like hot butter in a pan.

Thank you sir! Time to experiment!!

What shades of orange and blue did you use?

Really nice kit. Great job. I always look forward to your reviews.
Thanks Tom, much appreciated!
I just bought one of these kits yesterday and I watched your review a few more times just to make sure the frame in my kit was covered in flesh and a few other parts where to I never noticed it on yours could this be a bad shot or just not cleaning the molds? ?????
Could be anything. Mold might not have been tight for that shot or something.
great tips, great information. (again) The engine compartment seems ideal for detailing - have any plans for Eduard or Detail Master sorts of additions?

@@hpiguy Thanks for the response - I left out the human element . . .
Thanks for the video Chris. Awesome truck. Turned out sweet. I tell you... Your reviews are the best. You always pick some cool kit subjects. I was hoping for a review on this kit and you always come thru. Keep up the great work!

Love it, Sweet build and kit that straight 6 is awesome!! Great review bud
Sure is, thanks!
I will add one of these to my wants list for a push car for a front engine rail.
Cool!
What do you use to strip off the chrome from the parts so that they can be painted.
Super Clean eats it off in minutes.
Love your builds, but I REALLY love your ship builds! When will you do another one?
Not sure but I'll be sure to video it. I've done a few over the past couple months, watercraft that is. Thanks for watching!
Great job
Thanks!
Nice like that truck
Please do a build on the 1974 Ford Van Highjacker Model

How did you do the wheels & tires on this build?
I simply do not remember man. This was years ago and hundreds of kits since.
I'd follow the manual on what they recommend.
Ok, Thank You. I wish I had a way to show you my builds and progress, of my builds.
What is a parts washer
See my video on painting models with cheap spray cans for the how to.
Awesome job! I️ am really impressed. You should do more ships too!!! :)
Thank you, and I will be, just need to add one to the schedule, thanks for letting me know what you want to see!
I had a real one - it ran but was

Very nice my friend 👍

I love my V8's and so on, but....that's a beeaauuutiful inline 6! 😳😲😍😎
Most excellent video guv'nor! 👍🏻👌🏻👏🏻🤜🏻🤛🏻
Thanks, I like all types myself, it's fun!
Couldn't agree more!
I'd love to have one in the Mobilgas colours....😍😎
Yip....I want, nay....I neeeed, a Mobilgas pickup! 😉🤤
What is the heat gun you use?
Hobbico brand, they are usually around $20 or less. It's used for shrinking Monokote onto model airplane wings normally.
Nice job
Thanks!
Same as the older issue
Nice
Thanks!
Honestly I don’t really like the orange grill but except for that amazing job

That chassis is almost a model in itself. Almost a shame to put the body on.
It is. Since it all lines up easily you could forego gluing the bed and cab down and easily remove both to show off the frame. Just don't forget when you pick it up.
nice one sir just like my collection on my channel! tnx ireally like it
Yeah it's a nice ride, thanks!
